SDC RB Situation for Dynasty (1 Viewer)

I'm curious to hear from people and especially homers on what the feeling is concerning this backfield. Tolbert and Sproles are both free agents in 2011. However, the Chargers have been willing to lock Sproles up in the past. While I don't think they will franchise tag him, I don't see a reason why they still might not make a push in FA.

As for Tolbert, I could see them placing a lesser tag on him to keep him around as insurance/goal line for mathews. Also, lets face it Tolbert and Sproles are proven commodities right now and Mathews has only proved to be a top draft selection. It's nice to bank on someone whose done it for you before.

So that leaves Mathews. The coaching staff isn't hot on his pass protection right now which may limit his 3rd down play and PPR value in the future. He's currently losing goal line. Pretty much the worst situation to be in although that could easily change in 2011.

Who do we think they bring back? I can't see them letting both go without a replacement. I can't see how they would have confidence to wildly expand Mathews role given his 2010 campaign.

Obviously Mathews was a huge prize and subsequent dissapointment for many dyansty owners. Accurately judging his future value is going to be crucial for many owners; ala Darren Mcfadden.

On a seperate note, I seem to recall Mathews having injury problems in college. Does anyone recall if this is true and what kind of maladies he was battling?

I think Sproles will be let go via FA and they resign tolbert.Dynasty wide Mathews is the guy you want
Agreed. I'm just trying to get a feel for how valuable he is giong to be. Especially if they resign Tolbert. A time share could serverly limit his value. Tolbert hasn't been a sloutch in many of his games. I used to rank Mathews very high as a prospect but now I see him slipping under a lot of guys that were not even near him: McFadden, Moreno, Brahshaw, McCoy and the crazies like Hillis and Foster. Just to name a few.Obviously Mathews and Wells are the two of the young up and coming RBs in the leauge who have failed to produce. I'm trying to get a feel for whether it's a good time to buy low on Mathews or upgrade to one of the breakouts or safter plays like a McFadden(breakout), Ray Rice(safe), or McCoy(both).

i just trade for him in my dynasty. IMO he is the best back on the roster....I am crossing my fingers that he can shake the inury bug. I think that an offseason will give him time to properly heal and he will be a beast next year :crossing fingers:

I said it in another thread, but Mathews has 4.4 YPC. His problem this season is his injury, and imo he tried to come back too soon because he wanted to "prove" himself. His injury looked gruesome when I saw it, I thought he'd be out for a long period of time. It was much worse than Pierre Thomas' twist and look at how long he's been out.

Anyway, Tolbert 4.3 YPC and Mathews 4.4 YPC. Including preseason, he has had 7 games of 4.4 or greater YPC and only 4 games of less than 4.4 YPC. Tolbert may have earned more playing time if he doesn't leave via FA, and possibly some GL carries, but Mathews has also shown he has the goods when he has been healthy.

Mathews this year is like Moreno last year.

Which also leads me to think that Mathews next year will be like Moreno this year (which is looking more promising all the time).
