SEA RB situation: What's up? (1 Viewer)

I guess we know Washington and Forsett are vying for the lead role? That Carroll is a 'hot hand' guys using a lot of backs as the situation suggests. And that Leon has been running with the first team since getting healthy - although I assumme that at least in part is to get him up to speed ASAP. Any homers or close watchers have a current sense of what might be the Seahawks RB pattern?

No kidding. I unfortunately have 2 roster spots taken by these guys. I may be forced to start jettisoning them if something doesn't shake out fast. And by shake out I don't mean true RBBC.

I just got Leon with my last pick the other night. I was pumped up until i watched re-run of Sea. game and noticed Leon seems slower than when he was a Jet. That broken leg might have reduced his explosion.

Forsett is taken in the 6th

Neon Leon in the 14th

I like the value and upside of Leon better later in the draft. Probably your RB5 or something, just a guy to stash for when Seattle has a decent match up and perhaps his role is more defined.

I'm in the camp that thinks Washington has lost a step. At his size, that is not good. Forsett will be the lead guy there, but so what? You have to spend a 6th rounder to reel in 800 yards and 4 TDs. No thanks.

Whats up is all three are horrible and should be avoided. The offensive line isn't very good (although improved from last year). Avoid, Avoid, Avoid.

They each (Forsett, Washington and JJ) got a crack starting a preseason game - None were overly impressive in their limited carries in the preseason starter role. To nobody's surprise, reports have indicated Julius Jones to be the least impressive of the three. I would expect Forsett and Washington to split the vast majority of the carries. Washington is the better value right now as Forsett is being drafted around the 7th round. I like Forsett to post the best numbers, but may take some time before the committee is straightened around.

Things are changing in some redrafts -- got Forsett in a cash league Sunday in the 11th rd (12 teams). Washington went undrafted altogether.

I think Washington is ill-suited to be an NFL team's RB1, and that Forsett (even at his size) could be a FFB points machine in another system ... but Peter Carroll's tendencies regarding the offense is such a huge question mark. A "hot hand" approach kills both guys' values.

EDIT: fixed first paragraph above.

As long as you can wait to grab either (or both of) Leon or Forsett, it probably makes sense since one could emerge from the pack.

If he's truly recovered, I would side with Leon though. Carroll went out and got him even before his leg was healed, so you know that the coach likes him. Forsett is an incumbent from the prior regime, and while that alone doesn't hurt his chances, I'd rather go with the guy that the new regime brought in.

Your picks would be better spent looking at another RB situation hoping someone emerges from another RBBC. This situation is dreadful.... Im a hawks fan. :X

Let's look at it another way:Let's say something happened to one of Washington or Forsett, and the other guy was basically handed the keys (with Julius Jones getting maybe 1/3 of the work). Wouldn't Washington/Forsett be worth something in FF then?

I don't mind rolling the dice that Seattle's Week-One RB situation will not hold up all that long ... someone should emerge. That emergence is not a 100% thing, no ... but I'd expect someone to come out of that situation with start-every-week value (if only as a flex).

I'm not loving the situation and the headache there but after reading some glowing reports on Washington I snagged him as my RB5 in the last rounds. Might be my first drop in week 3 but who knows....

This came out in the local paper today

Blurbs:

"I don't think we've had enough success running the football to allow the guys to distinguish themselves," Carroll said on Monday. "They've all run hard and I've looked at all of their runs in groups to make sure I can see them and styles of runs to see if there's anything going there and right now all these guys are battling."

Coachspeak to English: We're in serious trouble

The Seahawks' coach said all three of his running backs - Justin Forsett, Julius Jones and Leon Washington - will get playing time on Thursday night when Seattle closes out the preseason at Oakland.

So far, none of the three have shown enough in the preseason to claim the job outright. Carroll said the job won't revolve around just one back when the season starts, but he wants to see improvement from the paltry statistics posted so far.

In three games, the Seahawks are averaging 3.4 yards per carry. Only Washington is averaging more than 3 yards, but he has just 10 carries.

Forsett, the 5-foot-8 speedster, has received the most work of all three, getting 18 carries. Carroll said the dimension Forsett brings as a pass catcher, especially in third down situations, perhaps gives him a nudge ahead of the other two.

"He's a good player for us there and maybe he has a little bit more to offer there at this point from what we've seen. He has an edge on that aspect," Carroll said. "But that doesn't mean he's the third down back and the other two guys are the first and second down guys. I don't see it that way."

There you have it, clear as mud

ya, because L. Washington isn't a good receiver from the backfield or a good 3rd down back. That was his role last year on the Jets before he busted his leg.

Wow, ok, cause that first sentence seemed like he was just trying to keep it going until an answer came to him.

What round was Forsett going in in June/July? His "value" was unbelievably inflated.

At this point, the only one I want is Leon. He might not work out, but he's only received a few pre-season carries and you have to think they are still taking it easy on him.

I see Leon as a guy who if he stays healthy could become the full-time back here. I think he'll get every opportunity to do this, and will get 15-18 carries a game from day 1.

;) Leon is the guy here, makes a nice 4th/5th back.

Why bother with this mess? None of them are real goal line backs. All of them can catch passes. Are you going to start one of them for 5 weeks to get RB2 production in 1 week and get 5 pts every other week? That will kill your FF season right there. Best option is one or two of them get injured leaving a clear starter who will get the touches. Otherwise you are just guessing every week and even then, none of these RBs are even elite enough to win you the match up any given weekend. At best they give you 15 points or so in PPR; most of the time you get between 5 to 10.

Carrol sounds like a man without any answers in that interview. HE used about 150 words to say "No clue."
"Can't we buy a house for Reggie Bush or something? The talent I have to deal with on this team is pathetic."

spoken like a true hawks fan. I think Forsett is the most interesting as far as talent to someday break out as a feature back, but unless the OL drastically improves over last year there aren't going to be any holes to run through anyway. stay away.
