Seneca Wallace Signs Extension (1 Viewer)

Regardless of how well he has played while subbing for Matt Hasselbeck, Seneca Wallace isn't going anywhere in the offseason. The Seahawks' backup quarterback was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after signing his tender as a restricted free agent in March. But the club has signed Wallace to an extension through the 2007 season. That's good news, especially in light of Wallace's performance while starting the past three games because Hasselbeck has been out with a sprained right knee. Wallace is 2-1 as the starter, and played well enough to win the game at Kansas City in his first start. His quarterback rating in those three games is 91.2. He has thrown six touchdown passes and two interceptions. He directed a season-long 94-yard touchdown drive against the St. Louis Rams on Sunday. This is a difficult week for Wallace, however, because Hasselbeck is practicing and could play against the 49ers in San Francisco on Sunday. "I'm preparing as if I was going to start the game," Wallace said. "That's the only way I can prepare myself. I can't worry about that. If he's ready to go on Sunday, he'll be ready." Financial terms of Wallace's extension were not disclosed. (Updated 11/16/2006).
Seems like an odd decision. I would have thought his performance these past few weeks might get him a starting job somewhere, or at least put him into a situation that gives him a better chance to start. But I guess there's something to be said for loyalty and sticking to a playbook you already know.

Ehh...Wallace hasn't been that great...Who would give him the starting job? Raiders? Browns? Ehhh. I'm not sure there's a lot of jobs out there waiting for him.

Considering he signed the extension over THREE MONTHS AGO, his performance over the last few games means very little.

Exactly. This is being reported today but he signed his extension prior to this year. He put back his free agency a year in exchange for some more upfront cash.

Only another year. If some team really wanted him they could trade for him and then sign him long term- but that seems unlikely.
