Shark Pool Mock Draft #2 - Let's draft! (1 Viewer)

Okay. We'll see how far this goes...

I'm not going to include the compensatory picks in the numbering so this pick is 4.98.

4.98 - Washington Redskins - C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE - Iowa

Gruden likes his two TE sets. Problem is, past up and comer Jordan Reid, the TE's on the 'Skins roster aren't very good.

Would've liked to take a corner or safety here, but the remaining ones are just role players.
Still think we should start over and scramble the owners this time. It increases the realism when you can't predict behavior from the person's last 2 or 3 drafts picking for the same team.

It would be fun, but the signup process is a PITA and would take longer than actually limping through this round.

4.99 - Atlanta Falcons - Jarvis Landry, WR - LSU

Roddy White is getting long in the tooth and the Falcons don't have a ton of depth at the position.

A bit of a steal here, I think.

They made a lot of moves in free agency to shore up the defense. They added Soliai and Tyson Jackson. Here they've added an OLB.

Their offense did them no favors either. Ryan got killed behind that line and with no run game support.

I still think their pass defense will be terrible. Those guys are good vs the run mostly. They need a couple pieces in their secondary and another pass rusher. But you're right, their o-line was porous as well.

They started two rookies at corner who got better as the year went on. They should make a bigger leap in year two.

I think they should have gone safety here in round 3 instead of RB.

Not necessarily poor. They need a RB and Sankey will be pretty good I think

Just mis-timed by a round or so. Charles Sims and Isaiah Crowell would have been decent, later pick ups.

We're on the same page. I like Sankey, but RB is somewhat of a replacement position and this class is deep there. Pick the FS in rd 3 and then grab one later. When your team has lots of holes, picking a RB on day 1 or day 2 is a blunder.

Do we know how many teams are currently covered?

I took the Chiefs last round, but it was unclear if it was going forward or just for that pick.

I'm open to taking on a few teams, if need be. Just not sure who's still around and who isn't.

4.104 - Oakland Raiders - Will Clarke, DE - West Virginia
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4.105 - Minnesota Vikings - Bruce Ellington, WR - South Carolina
I have visions of him running wild in 3 wr sets with Patterson and Jennings. And opening things up for Rudolph and AP.

And I can't stand that Jerome Simpson is still on the team. The Vikes need some better WR depth.

As part of our recent Buffalo Bills draft preview series, we assigned a level of need to each position group.

Looking back, here is an overview of those positional needs:

High: Tight end, offensive tackle
Moderate: Quarterback, running back, defensive end, linebacker
Moderate-to-low: Wide receiver, guard/center, safety
Low: Defensive tackle, cornerback

combined with

.9. Buffalo - HaHa Clinton-Dix, S - Alabama

2.41. Buffalo - David Yankey, OG - Stanford
3.73. Buffalo - Donte Moncrief, Wr - Ole Miss.

4.104 - Oakland Raiders - Will Clarke, DE - West Virginia
Thanks Andy for taking my list and making the Raiders pick.

The Raiders need depth all over the place and need and injection of youth. One position that needs more depth and youth is the DE postion. With Tucker and Woodley getting long in the tooth the Raiders need to add more depth at the DE position to rotate and keep Tucker and Woodley fresh for end of games.

Will Clarke is being compared to Chandler Jones from New England. Clarke finally hit his stride this year with 6 sacks, 17 tackles for a loss and 7 passes blocked. Clarke is good at getting his long arms up and disrupting passes and blocking passes. He went from 0-3-7 passes blocked in his three seasons at West Virginia getting better each season.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1754637/will-clarke "Notre Dame's Zach Martin was the most consistent offensive lineman at the Senior Bowl but the one defender who consistently gave him trouble was Clarke, who was able to get into the veteran left tackle's chest due to the reach advantage provided by his 33 3/8" arms. Due to his length, strength and work ethic proponents of the 3-4 and 4-3, alike find Clarke highly intriguing."

Will Clarke is a bit raw, however he will have a couple of years to learn from Tuck and Woodley.

After four rounds the Raiders were able to get a young QB to groom for a year or two while Schaub is the starting QB. Also, the Raiders were able to add a lot of youth and depth on the defensive side of the ball with Khalil Mack, Kelcy Quarles, and Will Clarke.

Raiders Draft:

#5 Khalil Mack LB Buffalo

#36 Derek Carr QB Frenso State

#67 Kelcy Quarles DT South Carolina

#107 Will Clarke DE West Virginia

Lynch is just a blocking TE. Not sure the Bills need that very much. But whatever...

I was thinking...

Carl Bradford OLB Arizona State - Versatile player that can play ILB/OLB/DE positions.

I think he's decent in the short to intermediate passing game. Should be a reliable possession TE for EJ. His blocking is important if they plan to get Spiller going on some outside runs as well.

Regardless, your call. Doesn't really matter to me. If we were going TE, I saw Lynch as the best of the bunch left. If not, there are probably other players that are better value here.

Ok, main reason I didn't want to go ahead is because the Colts also want Carl Bradford, LB, ASU.

Wanted the Bills to get a chance to pick him if that's who they wanted.

4.108 - Detroit Lions - A.J. McCarron, QB - Alabama

He's leaps and bounds better than Kellen Moore and Dan Orlovsky. A much needed upgrade to the Lions #2 QB spot.

Top 3 drafts:

1.12. NY Giants - Anthony Barr, OLB/DE - UCLA
2.43. NY Giants - Antonio Richardson - OT, Tennessee
3.74. NY Giants - Paul Richardson, WR - NYG

Arguments could be made against Barr just because their is so much talent still on the board at the 12th overall but potentially elite pass rushers are always a solid draft choice. The Giants managed to snatch up possibly the last "good" offensive tackles. No other OT went in the 2nd round after the Giants took Richardson and the only OT taken by another team between the Giants 2nd and 3rd round pick was Richardson's Volunteers counter part JaWuan James. Paul Richardson is nice 3rd round pick up to pair Cruz with.

1.7. Tampa Bay - Johnny Manziel, QB - Texas A&M
2.38. Tampa Bay - Allen Robinson - WR, Penn State
3.69. Tampa Bay - Gabe Jackson, OG - Mississippi State

Get a play maker at QB. Glennon will make a damn fine back up similar to RG3 and Cousins. Robinson is the perfect fit here. Solid pass catcher and a polished route runner to go across from Vincent Jackson. With the injury issues that weaken the Bucs O-line take Mel Kiper's top rated guard in the 3rd is wonderful.

1.26. Miami (from Cleveland (from Indianapolis)) - Xavier Su'a Filo, G - UCLA
2.50. Miami - Chris Borland, MLB - Wisconsin
3.71. Miami (from Cleveland) - Jack Mewhort, OT Ohio State
3.81. Miami - Tre Mason, RB - Auburn

Just a nice draft. Needs met, traded down, quality players with every pick. Just not flashy.

***St. Louis had so much more to work with then the other teams so it's hard put them in the top 3 but it's still a really good draft.

1.2. St. Louis (from Washington) - Greg Robinson, T - Auburn
1.18. St Louis (from NY Jets) - Calvin Pryor, S - Louisville
2.44. St. Louis - Ra'Shede Hageman DT - Minnesota
2.59. St. Louis (from Indianapolis) - Davante Adams WR - Fresno State
3.80. St Louis (from NY Jets) - Keith McGill, CB - Utah

FIrst two picks are home runs. Hageman is a slight project but will be a perfect fit at DE. Chris Long will be 30 next year and if Hageman can spend a year learning then replace Long, the Rams will clear 7.5 mil in cap room for 2015 and 11.75 million in 2016 by releasing Long. Adams is a neutral pick. Late in the second round, still trying to find Bradford's "guy", needs have been met it's a why not. Everyone has different opinions of this receiver class and Adams is one of those guys where those opinions are all over the map. With everything considered this pick is a wash, not great but not terrible. Corners got picked over pretty good by the time it got back to St.L in the 3rd. McGill was without a doubt one of the best corners left and CB depth is always important.

*******Any team that had less then 3 picks I left off the list.

I agree that the St Louis draft is really solid. Miami addressed some needs, but I don't see a RB in the early rounds for them.

4.110 Giants Select DE/OLB - Adrian Hubbard, Alabama

I'm torn on this pick. They've spoken and have shown interest in Hubbard and that was the deciding factor between him and a few other folks I wanted to pick here.

I don't really know if they would expect Hubbard to play DE or Outside linebacker in the 4-3. HE played OLB in the 3-4 for Alabama and I have to admit, I don't know much about him. If they play him at OLB, it's filling a need, and if they play him at DE, they're trying to put more strength into their pass rush. I don't remember how good Kiwanuka was last year, but if JPP is back to form, Kiwanuka is performing, and Hubbard can do something at the pro level at DE, this position could return to a strength for this team. If they play him at OLB, I'm not sure how difficult it will be to beat out Paysinger, McClain, or Williams - even for a 4th round pick.

You're right they probably don't but at pick 81 it's not a bad pick. Everyone is going to have different opinions on players and there are some people who are really high on Mason and when you look at their back field right now and for the future it's not that promising. Moreno was being talked about as a roster cut after last years draft. Then he had an awesome year in the Denver super offence. Daniel Thomas is Daniel Thomas. Miller and Gilliislee the jury is still out on but both had a chance last year to take the job and neither of them did. If some how the 'Phins can get a feature back or even a decent committee going then the pick is worth it.

Appreciate the feedback from you and Borden.

Once the obvious needs are filled, I wanted to switch into BPA mode. Just so happens that the BPA (in my book) is at another position Miami should improve. Thomas should be cut and Miller does not seem talented enough to play significant minutes. Moreno is a good step but Mason can help complete the overhaul.

What direction do you think Miami would go with an extra third? WR was another big consideration, particularly if Bryant slipped.

I could see them drafting a CB or S early. Maybe a WR or TE.

Miami Dolphins Select: Kenneth Ladler, FS Vandy

Miami could use a hard-hitting safety to pair with Reshard Jones. Louis Delmas was signed on a 1-year deal to see if he can do it, but that doesn't mean they won't grab a rookie who can fit that bill. Enter Ladler, an aggressive player who causes fumbles and generates picks. Has experience at both safety positions and played at his best against top competition in the SEC.

I don't see CB, but think each of the others can be in play if there is a player they really like.

I wouldn't say Ladler is a hard hitting safety but with Delmas only in a 1 year contract this might be the ideal situation for Ladler. A year to apprentice under the Jones and Delmas and if Delmas under performs or wants too much money the let him go and Ladler may be able to step in.

The problem with Ladler is that he likely isn't fast enough (4.70 40) to play FS in the NFL and he isn't a mean enough tackler to play SS. He may get stuck in between the two positions and not fit in either but he a good nose for the football and that's a good place to start.

I don't know how high his football IQ (I'm not knocking him I actually just don't know) but if he studies hard and is fairly smart then with good positioning, lots of effort and hustle and some good coaching he might be able to overcome his lack of speed and be a productive starter at free safety. It sounds like more work than it is. Plus, he's a fourth round pick so he's going to have some holes in his game.
