I've asked bcr8f to make the pick for the Pack since I'm going to be out all afternoon, so I want to get that 'Fins pick out of the way, plus I'm going to be out of town all weekend so I want this thing to END ASAP.Oh, and lynx4ben was on at 11:20 last night and didn't make a pick. I'm sure there's good reasons why, but I hope he/she understands that I want this thing to get a move on.
If you need someone to make Miami's pick, let me know. They're the other team I follow closely.
Does anybody remember if WuBanger is still playing? I remember him being late, but I don't remember if he was replaced or if that was somebody else.
He said "Feel free to complete the draft for the Dolphins" and "Happy Drafting". I believe Andy has been drafting for them since.

Yup. That was him, and he just responded to my PM saying pretty much the same.

3.24...

by the third round I feel need starts to outweigh BPA a little. This guy fits both as he should have been gone a full round earlier had he been healthy in '08. Mason being 45 years old AND #####ing about his contract force the Ravens' hand...

With the 88th pick in the NFL Shark Pool Draft, the Baltimore Ravens select - WR, North Carolina - Brandon Tate

Hi all, because I didn't want to get a reputation for ditching out of drafts; I thought I would comment. I received a PM for my second round pick 12 hours after the previous pick was made. I made my pick within an hour of getting that PM. I never received a PM for Green Bay's last pick. I understand why you skipped me. I just wanted to let you know that had I received PMs I wouldn't have kept you guys waiting.

The Eagles have acquired Jason Peters and the Bills 4th Rd selection in exchange for pick 1.28.
The Bills have agreed to trade thier troublesome LT to the Eagles because they were worried they wouldn't be able to make a contract extension happen. Taking Oher with the 1.11 only made the Bills desire to rid themselves of this situation stronger. Oher will take over nicely at the LT position and allow the Bills to pick up another impact player during the process.
Eagles Reportedly Talking With Bills About OT PetersSheil Kapadia, Philadelphia Inquirer & Daily News - [Full Article]According to ESPN's Michael Smith, the Philadelphia Eagles have engaged in serious discussions with the Buffalo Bills about potentially acquiring offensive tackle Jason Peters in a trade.
I wonder how close we were... But we knew this deal would make sense for both teams.

The trade makes alot of sense, but I think at this point it is more about money. Peters is asking to get a Jordan Gross type of contract, and I don't think the Eagles are going to give him that, nor has his play warranted it.

ftr: The PACKERS are on the clock for the 3.19 selection. lex4ben
I wouldn't want to make another bad choice if I were him either. :( I wish he would ask ask other Pack fan for ideas.
To be fair, I haven't seen you like any GB pick in any draft by anyone, ever.Any more info on Dannell Elerbe? They've talked to many LBs since the Combine but I don't know anything about him.

Then you're not very observant. I complimanted him on Merdith, but also agree that Andre Smith and Larry English over a FSU DE)Jamal Reynolds is still on out minds) and Meredith.OK. What other GB picks have I hated made by anyone ever?

Ok, tough choice here first of all for the defending champions.

In the first round I took CB Alphonso Smith from Wake Forest to shore up the secondary for many years. This next pick is almost supposed to be an offensive lineman (they were horrendous for the beginning half of the year). HOWEVER, I am in a situation where I have 3 guys that would work really well into the Steelers system, and am in a big predicament. On the one hand I can select a mauling OG that would solidfy the right part of the line for a while. However, the Steelers traditionally don't draft big OL men in the guard position, due to their demand for pulling and what not. The next is a trailblazing WR that would instantly upgrade the ST/kick returns dramatically. However, this next pick is made to ensure that the Steeler defense encompasses tenacity and speed for years to come.

2.32 (#64 overall) DE/OLB - Lawrence Sidbury - (Richmond)

There is an outside shot that the Steelers do no re sign James Harrison (wants Haynesworth $, 30+ years old). To make sure that the Steeler tradition of LB's stays true, Colbert would make this pick. Knocks on Sidbury is that he is undersized for DE. Perfect says Colbert, as those are the types of guys that project well for the 3-4 style the Steelers run (Joey Porter, Lamarr Woodley, Clark Haggans, James Harrison). Keep in mind that this guy runs a 4.53 (was on the school's track team; faster than most WR), and is 6-3 265. He would start out as a situational DE rusher while he learns Lebeau's system; which is a blessing that he learns the first year(s) or so due to the complexity of the system. The depth would further solidfy a stingy Steelers D that is starting to age. So yes, its not the first choice of many Steeler fans, but given the talent left at OL, and the opportunity to snatch up a future star LB, I think that it is a great choice.

Four more college players visit Steelers

Thursday, April 09, 2009

By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Three cornerbacks and one outside linebacker are visiting the Steelers today as they continue to inspect college draft prospects.

The cornerbacks are Donald Washington of Ohio State, Don Carey of Norfolk State and Sherrod Martin of Troy. Lawrence Sidbury, an outside linebacker from Richmond, joined them at the Steelers UPMC training facility.

I'm on deck for picking....but anxious guys
Good morning Benson_will_lead_the_way and all others - Got a late start today, but will New England Patriots will amke their selection within 5 - 15 miutes. Got to get some caffeine into the system (translated this means me & BB are going to have coffee and donuts).

With the 25th pick in the 3rd Rd of the 2009 draft (89th pick overall), the New England Patriots select

Rashard Jennings, RB from Liberty University (Lynchburg, VA)

And here is the scoop on this high value selection in the 3rd round: (excuse any redundancy below, por favor)

The 265-pound redshirt freshman at the University of Pittsburgh decided to leave the school in 2006 for "greener pastures," returning close to home, to be closer to his ailing father who lost a leg to diabetes, by enrolling at Liberty University.

Jennings had surgery on a broken pinky finger in early September last season, but still rushed for 1,500 yards (his third consecutive 1,000-yard season) with his bruising yet nimble running style. The twice-named Big South Offensive Player of the Year also showed some versatility by making 24 receptions in 2008.

In three seasons at Liberty, Jennings set the league career records for yards gained rushing (3,633), placing second all-time for touchdown runs (42), rushing yardage average (5.74), rushing attempts (633) and all-purpose yardage (4,155). He also established a Big South mark with four games with at least three touchdown runs.

As a senior, he broke the Big South single-season records for most rushing attempts (263), most touchdown runs (17), most yards rushing (1,500) and best rushing average (136.36 ypg). His 1,690 all-purpose yards in 2008 rank second in league season annals (third with a 153.64 ypg average) while his average of 154.33 all-purpose yards per game in 2007 also placed second on that list.

What more can Bill and I say. We had a wonderful trip down to Lynchburg, to see this small-school RB and gentleman, who will be an asset to the Pats and play a major roll in their return to Superbowl glory in many seasons to come. Along with the other four prior NE draft selections, adios for now.

PS - And just wait until you see who the next selection will be (after only 7 more picks by my fellow competitors).

Nice pick. Crowded backfield in New England.Andre Brown for Houston looks good too.

With the 26th pick in the 3rd Rd of the 2009 draft (90th pick overall), the Chicago Bears select:

Louis Murphy WR Florida

Trading down in the second allows for this extra pick to be another WR. I honestly was split between these two with my last pick(Ramses Barden) and having Murphy available a round later is just icing on the cake.

He provides more speed(high 4.4's) than Barden and has good size as well (6-1 to 6-2).

Adding two talented rookie wr's to Hester, Bennett will go a long ways towards the development of this offense.

Why two WR's? B/c Davis and every other WR not named hester or bennett might not make the team.

With the 91st pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select

Sherrod Martin CB Troy

Sherrod is desperately needed in the secondary. He brings a little maturity to the defense for a rookie and probably dropped this far due to being 25 years old. Athletically gifted great size and speed will be a nice addition. I was looking at two other players here as well but with 2 fourth round I could probably pick them both up there.

English lasting that long wasn't really expected. Furthermore, I don't expect TT to go OL that early in the first. He seems to like drafting D in the first round. I think he is of the mindset that he can pick up solid OL in the mid rounds. This has been the pattern in the past but who knows.Trade down might be the shark pick at 9, but i'm not a big fan of working trades with other members in mocks.

If you guys keep this thing going past the 3rd round, just have someone draft for StL. These are fun when they go at the pace they were going but it seems interest has waned and this thing has slowed to a crawl. If there is 1 more mock draft before the draft, I'll be down to draft again in that one.

I've seen English go there in mocks, but they are just guesses.Ted doesn't have a long history but takes the best player available even where there are needs. If Andre Smith slides(or anyone) and he doesn't want him he'll trade down a few spots i think.

Raji seems to be the pick in Green Bay if he's there. I can see him trading down with Denver if they want Sanchez(or the Jets) if he can get a 2nd. We do need picks this year.

Ted's top picks

Rodgers

Hawk

Harrell

Jordy Nelson(2nd round)

It would be a shame to have gotten this far and not finish it up.
I'm only game for finishing up the original 3 rounds posted. Too many other obligations at this time of year.I even had to give up my chance to tote Tiger's bag this weekend. My thanks to all participants, and especially to Andy for running this mock, before I forget the manners my mama taught me.

Sorry for the delay. I was away for a while, but I think Fulton fits the Colts' M.O. here. Even though they've got 2 starting OT's, Fulton is an athletic tackle from a Big 10 school who could be dangerous on the 2nd level.

Tennessee Titans OTC with 3.94

Having taken no picks yet, but having improved on offense big time with the Boldin trade, Tennessee looks to address other needs.

We're basically looking at two positions here, DT and QB. We're concerned about Vince Young but are hoping for the best. Nonetheless, we are considering drafting Nate Davis, Ball State here. He's a QB we can grow into a starter behind Collins and has the potential to be great. He shouldn't be here in our opinion, but drafting him would put the light back on VY which may or may not be needed. We wouldn't shy away from taking Davis if he was the BPA for us here.

We're considering 3 DTs here, and might wait until the 4th. First on the list is Ricky-Jean Francois, LSU 6-3, 295, but with some character issues and lack of a motor / questionable work ethic, we won't go that route, although he could be great. The other is Terrence Taylor, Michigan 6-0, 306. Space eater. If we were looking to go to a quasi 4-3/3-4 split, we'd probably pick him up.

The 3rd DT might find his future as a DE or possibly LB, but we think he'll work very well in a rotation and is a guy we like, he'll fit in well with our team.

With the 94th pick in the 2009 NFL draft, the Tennessee Titans take

Mitch King, DT Iowa

Arizona or Pittsburgh...

Baltimore is looking to move into the bottom of the 3rd or top of the 4th (even though it looks like this draft will end after the 3rd).

Pick 3.31 (95)- Arizona Cardinals- Derrick Williams, WR- Penn State

With the trade of Boldin, a roster spot exists for a new WR. The Cardinals feel they are getting a good value with the drafting of a playmaker like Derrick Williams.

After trying to talk trade with three teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers will stay put and select....

3.32 (#96 overall) -- OT Sebastian Vollmer (HOUSTON)

One of the two highest T prospects left on my board, Vollmer is a mountain of a man (6'8") and figures to add some more weight to his already 320 lb frame. A natural RT, this nasty-playing German is just what the Steelers need to get back to pounding the football. For being such a big guy, he is very fast for his size (runs a 5.12) and loves to pancake. He also stood out as one of the top lineman at the East-West game. He is not an instant starter to this offense, but by next year when Starks contract runs out, Vollmer has a great chance to step right in and contribute.

With the 33th pick in the 3rd Rd of the 2009 draft (97th pick overall), the New England Patriots select

James Casey, TE/WR from Rice University (Houston, TX)

Probably will not have time to post a detailed write-up for this surprise PATS pick, but if you follow the team, you'll be aware that they haven't gotten anything close to the performance anticipated out of this position - now going on a handful of years to include this season. Casey might not orchestrate a spectacular rookie year, but he will be heard from in the not too distant future.

3.34 (98) The Cincinnati Bengals draft Antoine Caldwell - C - Alabama

The Bengals haven't had a good center for years, hopefully this pick would solve that problem. I think Caldwell is underated. He's a great leader with a good motor, strong lower body, and is smart enough to make all of the line calls. He's also versitile having played center, guard and tackle in college. First Bama player to graduate in less than 3 years.

When I traded back this round and picked up another #4 it was actually to get Caldwell. I've heard him a couple of times on sirius radio and I really like the guy. He seems like a guy you want on your team and he had a very nice career at Alabama. Good pick

The Chicago Bears select Cedric Dockery G Texas.

The Bears added 3 new options at OT(if you count Williams) and 1 new option at LG(omiyale) in the offseason. Beekman will be the next C after Kruetz is gone. But Garza needs someone to push him or overtake the job. Dockery can step in right away in a power scheme and do that.

Detroit was going to take Chase Coffman TE Missouri with the first pick in the fourth round but since we can't get enough guys to commit to three rounds I can understand not doing the fourth round.

If we do another one of these and you sign up to do you team make sure you'll be able to commit to doing your selection in a timely manner. I'm not saying be at your computer 24/7 but check every once in awhile, if your on the road ask a buddy to see where the picks are at....it takes two seconds.

I would love to do one more starting the Wed. before the draft but I fear we wouldn't get it done in time.

I'm not pointing any fingers, I just really enjoy these and would love t do another right before the draft.

Thanks for all the hard work trying to get everything to work Andy.

Well, this was fun. One trade for Boldin, one pick of Mitch King. Addresses 2 areas of need, a WR1 and a DT/DE to put in the rotation. I'd be thrilled if this happened, but I doubt an NFL team would give both day one picks, and I can somewhat understand why team prefer to give a 09 1st and 10 1st instead of the Ricky Williams style - give them all our picks!

The Bears biggest addition is Cutler.

But adding Barden(6-6) and Murphy (6-2) to give Cutler targets with size is huge.

Also adding Dockery to compete at RG right away will help completely overhaul this OL from a year ago.
