Shark Pool Player Spotlight Contest (1 Viewer)

Zoo York
Week Ten Player Spotlight Contest

OK, so if you're a regular Shark Pooler you've noticed that there's a LOT of Spotlights listed this week. In fact, it's double the normal amount. The reason we're double dipping this week is two-fold...

1) We're just a few weeks from training camp and the board is about to get busier with each passing day

2) It's been a while since we had a contest in the Shark Pool

Now this might not be the second coming of the "You Know You're a Football When..." contest of the world-renowned Haiku battles of yore; but hopefully this will spark some quality analysis and debate so we can get our collective juices flowing as we enter the training camp period of the preseason

So here's the deal...

The contest centers around the Week Ten Player Spotlights
We're looking for folks to contribute to the threads (as usual) but, unlike most weeks, we will award prizes for the best commentary
The staff will convene to determine winners at the end of the designated contest period
The contest will run from now until 10 p.m. EST, Wednesday, July 19thThe Prizes

1) Best Overall Contributor -- The person with the best overall contribution will receive a 3-year subscription to Footballguys. To win this award, it's about a combination of quantity and quality. We want to see excellent analysis in multiple threads. You don't have to contribute to each and every thread, but if you only have time for a couple of posts, this award probably isn't for you.

2) Best Singular Analysis -- The person with the best single Spotlight will receive their choice of a 2006 FBG subscription, a 2007 FBG Subscription, or a Footballguys Hat and T-Shirt. This award will be the most competitive as anyone with even one spotlight profile in any of the Week Ten spotlights is eligible. Think you've got a world-class analysis of Carson Palmer but are too busy to contribute otherwise, you could easily win this award.

3) Best Rebuttal Contributor -- The Spotlights are primarily known as a place where people write up their views on a player and submit their projections. But some of the best threads are those that foster debate and back-and-forth analysis. For that reason, we're giving another prize to the contributor we feel did the best job of defending their position(s) after the initial writeup. This could be one spirited retort in one Week Ten thread, or it could be solid follow-on analysis in a host of threads. The winner will receive their choice of a 2006 FBG Subscription, 2007 FBG Subscription, or a Footballguys Hat and T-Shirt.

Best of luck everyone, and ENJOY!

Man thats alot of free content for barely any cost.

Joe is a pretty ####### smart business man.

edit: But his language filter is way overly sensitive

I assume my "statistical impossibility" rebuttal in the Gates thread has closed out this category, so just go ahead and send me the hat and t-shirt.TIA

Except all this stuff stays on the boards - the only MB content that ends up on the website are scattered comments on the individual spotlight player and your projections.I definitely encourage y'all to participate - we should now all be in full-on fantasy football mode, and there are some interesting players to talk about in the week 10 spotlight schedule.

Also, considering how little commentary there has been in the last few weeks in the spotlights, the competition is pretty wide open if you are a good writer with the ability to support your arguments with stats.

Good luck.

I normally don't do projections but I might try. 12 is not that many and if you're making projections you might as well have some reasoning for it so....doesn't seem that hard at all. I hope lots of regulars jump in here

Jason,

may I ask you add Reggie to the Jones+Wilford thread. Somewhat hard to talk about those 2 and not the other.

Has the deadline changed?
Nope...only submissions by the deadline will be used in the judging.I will announce the winners once we have had a chance to cull through all the content and come to a consensus. There's way too much good stuff to simply declare a winner within a day or two.

OK, thanks for the replyDidn't think so but hadn't found the time to reply in as many as I wanted to.

The contest deadline didn't change, it was the deadline for declaring the winners that changed.

I think the staff also had to weed thru all the freelance article submissions too and have been busy.As far as I'm concerned, they can take as long as they want to give away stuff for free

True that. carry on.

Many posters really went all out.

Perhaps Joe can come up with some additional prizes...seems almost unfair to choose.

Hey Guys,

This is absolutely on the "to do" list and, just to give you a sense of things, there are literally hundreds of entries that need to be read and voted on; and I don't want to take this lightly either.

We'll have a winner here soon

Wanted to bump this in case there was any progress to report. Musesboy has to have one of the winning slots locked up.

The latest....

From Wood on July 25th - announcement coming soon......

From Aaron on August 28th - announcement of the winners very soon. Stay Tuned.

and here I am :bye: Still tuned and still waiting....... my drafts are over and just waiting on next Thursday!

very close. I think Wood might be working on the training camp report, but these should be announced very shortly.

sorry guys...Wood has been away on vacation for the past week or so. The winners have been picked but he hasn't been able to write up the announcement yet. I think you can probably expect to hear from him tomorrow.
