Shaun Alexander released from seahawks (1 Viewer)

Depending what the Bengals do in the draft and the $$$ involved to sign Alexander I could see some interest from the Bengals. They liked him coming out of college and he's from nearby the Cincy area -- KY I think.

concur, this seems to make a lot of sense.

I could see him in Denver or Houston, but I think he's had too much wear and tear to be much of a fantasy impact, much less an NFL impact.

I think he'll have a mountain of choices, but not until after the draft when teams see what they come away with. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the Eagles inquire, but I doubt Alexander sees himself as a part-timer at this point; so he's likely to take a deal from a team that will clearly use him as RB1 instead of going to a team where he might win.

I would love to see the Bears give him or Kevin Jones a chance. To be fair SA's last two seasons he's played injured. I bet even worn and torn he'd be better than any of the backs we currently have.

I don't like where this is headed.

Should have a lot of options. Just not sure he's a starter anymore.

I would consider retiring if I were him. He had a good career. He has his health and plenty of financial security. He might as well ride off into the sunset rather than be the next Eddie George in Dallas or Emmitt Smith in Arizona.

Start the movement now. We need a RB with some credibility and something to prove. We'll take him at a bargain basement price!

What is the cap hit this year?

Steiner declined to comment whether the Seahawks have asked Alexander to restructure the $62 million, eight-year contract he signed before the 2006 season. That was weeks after he set a then-NFL record with 28 touchdowns and a franchise record of 1,880 yards rushing.

Alexander, 30, is scheduled to earn $4,475,000 in 2008. He has received $18.8 million in base salary so far on his contract, which Steiner at the time said was the richest ever for an NFL running back. Alexander has also received about $13.5 million guarantees through signing and other bonuses.
Sitting on the books for for about 10 mill?

I could see him in Denver as well. Shanahan likes a stable of running backs, but it's not one of their pressing needs right now. Carolina on the other hand is hurting for a running back, and he mentioned them along with cinci as a team he's interested in playing for.

He doesn't have a title, and I don't know many people that would walk away from millions of dollars if someone wanted to pay them; which we know at least a few teams will be more than happy to.

Even after signing Ahman Green when he was no longer capable of starting? I wouldn't saddle a team on its way up with Alexander, who could turn out to be major deadweight.

JJ looking nice, but I still think the Seaharks draft a RB.In Other Words - NOW IS THE TIME TO MOVE JJ.
I agree with this, whether they draft another RB or not. That bongo guy said the Seahawks are high on Chris Johnson. He'll almost certainly be available when they pick. It wouldn't be a total shocker if they took him there in the late first, though I think it would be smarter to wait until the 2nd-3rd to grab a back.

I know he is not "done" officially, but just wanted to say "great career". His numbers may be better than his "worth", but he did always seem to get the job done.

Wish him the best.

Any reason they would do this before the draft? I wouldn't give other teams the idea I would probably be drafting a RB.
On the flipside, this move might induce a team like Chicago, Detroit, or Carolina to sign Alexander. That would probably mean one less competitor for RB's in the draft.

I think we can safely rule out both Green Bay and New Orleans.
New Orleans was under the assumption that Deuce wasn't coming back. Big assumption, I know. Why wouldn't he fit with Green Bay? I think people give Grant way too much credit.
Last I heard Deuce was returning (I might have been dreaming though  )As for GB, they have a lot of choices at RB now and I think they are EXTREMELY happy with Grant.

I doubt there will be any offers he is happy with right away. I can't think of anyone that desperate.

I figure he'll either chill out this summer and wait for other people's injuries to make him more attractive, or (in the event that he does sign a min. offer) go somewhere he thinks he can win a championship. Or just retire.

As happy as they are with Grant, there's lots of questions as to who is behind him. Not sure if SAlex answers any of them, but he's worth a shot.
Alexander can't catch and doesn't pass block. He seems lazy, unmotivated. He doesn't run hard anymore - if he ever did. Tough to see how he fits the Ted Thompson mentality.

:goodposting: Apparently, credibility comes cheap in the NFL. :missing:
Houston makes no sense.SA = AG
Can you link me up with AG's 25+ TD season or Super Bowl appearance? TYIA.

I don't think he touches the 900/9 Emmitt put up in ARZ no matter where he goes.

Is there some hidden sarcasm here or am I missing something?Alexander didn't look very good the past seasons on a team with a good offense in a weak division.Over the hill RBs don't seem to get that much interest.

Did you watch SA last year? The tank is empty. AG is comparable to SA now not in the past.

Why don't we just lure Emmitt Smith out of retirement? He was good once too.

Have you heard Emmitt talk lately? I think the slippery drool on the ball would push his fumble rate up.

I saw a guy coming off an injury who had a few good games before it started nagging him again. We know AG doesn't work, lets try SA. He'll be cheap.
