IMO, there's no doubt he was not being sincere. Players rarely give these sort of congratulations while the game is going on (aside from victory formation snaps). Sometimes a player will congratulate an opponent after a good hit or a good play, but it's always the player on the losing end of the hit/play that gives the kudos, for obvious reasons.

Even if Sherman was trying to be sincere, it's pretty obvious that Crabtree would not be receptive to that kind of interaction with a guy he hates while walking off the field from the game-losing play. I'm a Sherman defender (in general, not every action he takes), but he deserved to get shoved in the face, and I don't think any less of Crabtree for doing so.

I agree with this 100%. I have no problem with people defending Sherman (and his message), the vitriol he was getting it across with was more shocking to me. But to lay this whole thing at the feet of Crabtree's shove is obscene.

It's hard to know what's in the heart of a man and judge his intent immediately after a heated situation like a game clinching play in the NFC championship; I sure as hell haven't been there. But it is easy to infer what a post game shove to the face mask means, and it isn't a sign of good sportsmanship. Fact is Crabtree should have been flagged for that action just as Sherman deserved the flag for the choke sign (which was in response to the shove).

The rest of it; Sherman patting Crabtree on the butt, extending his hand and saying what he said to Crabtree, even the Andrews interview, is all a bunch of subjectively overanalyzed nonsense. None of that matters in terms of the game, or really anything, other than media driven sensationalistic pre-Super Bowl hype. It doesn't tell you a thing about who Sherman is, nor does Crabtree's shove tell you anything about him for that matter (we pretty much all hate to lose). Yet people pretend to know so much about Sherman from this that they spew far worse vitriol than he ever did, throw out racial epithets and claim he might need to seek psychiatric help.

That's a mighty big mirror being help up by the public at large.

No, I don't think he was being genuine.

Then I stand by thinking that you are being obtuse (willfully or otherwise).

That was about as sincere of a gesture that one competitor can make to another one. I don't blame Crabtree for not being in a receptive mood*, his emotions were clearly on the opposite side of the spectrum, but there is no question that Sherman was making a sincere gesture.

*I do blame him for his response however. The appropriate thing for him to do would have been to accept the handshake, say "You too" and move on.

As I mentioned like 6 pages ago, even if he had gone up and blatantly talked smack to Crabtree right there (which I had thought he did prior to seeing this), I still felt Crabtree was more in the wrong for putting his hand on Sherman's face.

People don't seem to understand Sherman has a switch and he's different on the field than he is off the field. The smack talk is part of his game. The Crabtree thing he took a little far because of their history off the field, but he later apologized. That should be end of story but I guess Sherman is the only person in the entire world to ever make a mistake.

Weren't some of you talking about how if you did what Sherman did at your job you would get fired? Pretty sure Crabb's offense would get more people fired than someone offering up a sarcastic congratulations.

Sherman getting pissed at Crabtree...then turning to mock Kaepernick in response does not seem to be a natural reaction does it?

Then going off screaming how great you are also does not seem to be a natural reaction to what Crabtree did.

Fast forward to the NFC title game where they are trash talking the entire game and Sherman makes a play that likely ends the game. Sherman sprints across the endzone to catch up to Crabtree to slap him on the ### and congratulate him. Now we are to believe that **** was being sincere and not trying to rub salt in the wound? I wonder why the official flagged Sherman for taunting if he was just trying to tell an opponent "helluva game"?

Might have also had something to do with the choke gesture he was giving to Kaepernick. Yeah, Sherman is a classy guy. A lot to like about him.

He could have been giving Kaepernick style tips. Did you see what he was wearing after the game? Maybe Sherman was giving him the international symbol for "go with the bow tie (fool)."That would have been helpful.

Sherman was being a real ### after the game when he was asking how the injured 49er players were doing and then he had the nerve to ask one of the 49er players to tell Bowman he hopes he has a speedy recovery. What an ###!

People don't seem to understand Sherman has a switch and he's different on the field than he is off the field. The smack talk is part of his game. The Crabtree thing he took a little far because of their history off the field, but he later apologized. That should be end of story but I guess Sherman is the only person in the entire world to ever make a mistake.

absolutely silly on SB Sunday...

watch how Manning gets him to bite on a pump fake and scores a TD pass..

Manning was 11-16/163 yards/1 TD in the preseason matchup of these two teams..now,granted, he played until the 6:02 mark of the 2nd Q, but those numbers are staggering..Sherman was playing..

Julius Thomas was a beast in the first half of that game..shades of things to come next week..
