Shirley Temple Black dies at 85 (1 Viewer)

Sad. My grandmother, who passes away two years ago, was a HUGE fan of hers. Played her movies all the time. I never appreciated it as a typical male youngster but maybe I'll try to find one or two to watch with my girls and tell them stories about their great-grandmother.

RIP

She had a very successful well beyond her child actress days.

:banned: Grenadine and ginger ale shots all around.

My daughter used to be a fan when she was a little girl. We used to go to the video rental store (remember those?) and she went through the entire Shirley Temple collection they had.

Temple was one of the last links to the golden age of Hollywood. There's only a handful of stars from the 30s who are still alive: Olivia de Havilland, Mickey Rooney and Luise Rainer are the only ones who come to mind.

Temple was a really talented child star. When watching her old movies, you can see why she rose above the thousands of other kids who were trying to break into show biz.

Amazing that she was able to carry on a life after Hollywood, even in the days before child actors crashed and burned.

RIP

There are, of course, loads of pictures of Shirley Temple from her child star years. And there are a good number of public images from her middle-age years as an ambassador. For anyone who ever wondered what she looked like as a young woman, here are some samples.

In any case, Shirley grew up and married actor John Agar
John Agar, the star of this wonderful piece of cinema. :lmao:
To be fair after his divorce from Shirley his Hollywood career wasn't on the upswing. Prior to the divorce he was in Sands of Iwo Jima, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, and Fort Apache. After he was pretty much B and C movies.

do you remember going to theater to see her movies?

America was depressed mentally, economically and almost every other way as a country when she hit the screen, and she made everyone feel better, even if for just a little while.

That's a wonderful thing.

God Bless, and God's speed, Shirley, say hi to all the greats when you get to that big studio in the sky, they'll have a place waiting for ya.

:sadbanana:

Oh, I know that. The Brain from Planet Arous is one of my personal B movie favorites.

Unusual life. A child star who disappeared at the peak of her hotness in her 20s and 30s. Then reestablished herself in middle age. Successful at all stages in life except when she was hot.
