Heard that Brian Dawkins was added to the AFC Pro Bowl Bowl roster as an injury replacement for Troy P. and something like that ties him with John Lynch for all time Pro Bowl selections for safeties with 9 or something.
I guess my question is...should Dawkins really be "given credit" for being selected to the pro bowl, when really he wasn't. Had Troy P not been injured and the AFC just needing to fill in a roster spot so they could play the game, Dawkins would not be considered a "9 Time" pro bowler....he would only be an 8 time pro bowler.
I know this is done all the time and has happened many times in the past, but I guess something about it just doesn't seem right.
Does it take away from John Lynch a little? (not sure if any of his were replacement) Now he is no longer the record holder so to speak.
Does it have an affect on possible HOF consideration or future contract negotiations?
My stance is that only those originally chosen should be considered "pro bowlers"....injury replacements should get some type of honorable mention status or something.
And yes I think it should be the same in other sports as well.
