Should the NFL fine (or suspend) Jared Allen? (1 Viewer)

It appears as if him slipping is the reason he went low, but according to the rules, that was an illegal hit, so he should be fined.

Slipping? You need to watch the video again. He intentionally dove at Schaub's knees well after the ball was released.

Fine? I don't agree with it, but as long as it's small I won't gripe. Suspend? Pansy League.

Agreed. I am just saying, him slipping when he made his last move after Schaub had moved past him towards the line of scrimmage is why he was so low to the ground, causing him to hit him low. And, yes, the hit was late.

Thing is, he didn't just do it once. He also rolled into Schaub's lower legs on Schaub's first offensive series after Schaub had thrown the ball. Both plays should've been 15-yd penalties.

Even in real time you can see the ball was released. If Allen thought Schaub still had the ball, why wouldn't he have reached higher? It looks very cheap to me.

Agreed...while he did slip and was low...he dove at his legs.Agree with a fine, no on a suspension. He may miss time with an injury anyway.

I agree that he slipped but not before he made his last move. He clearly regained his footing long enough to continue his pursuit, and once he saw Schaub releasing the ball, he dove at his legs.

Well it looks a lot worse let's not forget how fast things are happening out there.

exactly what i was saying during the game. when i saw it live i immediately thought of the carson play.

I don't think there's any question that it was illegal by the rules. Just because you slip doesn't mean the QB's knees are now fair game, any more than slipping doesn't make a running back's face mask fair game.

But I don't think I can judge his intent enough to say if it was cheap / an attempt to injure.

IMO it looks a lot worse than it really was as far as intent goes. To me it looks like Allen slipped when making his move back to Schaub, and took that last lunge at Schaub without looking up to see if/when Schaub had delivered a pass. Pretty tough to look up vertically at a QB when you're basically on all fours on the turf. I would almost say without a shadow of a doubt that it wasn't an intentionally cheap shot by Allen, but it sure doesn't look very great in slow mo.

:X This really stood out to me during the game. I was absolutely shocked at what Allen was getting away with going low like that on Schaub. If I'm not mistaken he even did it after he had "hobbled" Schaub with a previous low hit. This should almost certainly results in a fine.

Wasn't much different than Pollard diving low on Brady; I think both hits should be illegal, but apparently the league and many fans dissagree. All the cheap crappy calls they make on ruffing the passer and yet players are allowed to dive at knees. It doesn't make sense; whether a defensive payer is knocked down or falls down, they should not be allowed to lunge low at qbs legs. The onus ought to be on them to get up rather than lunge. It isn't good for qbs and isn't good for the league.

My dad is a Denver fan and after Gibbs came here to coach, he told me" watch out because no one likes the chop blocking and they will retaliate on your players. Didn't think much of it, but now :banned:

:excited: I guess the NFL expects players to play in slo motion and think that they do when handing out these pansy ### fines
