If you voted to push it back, where should it be set?

There have been a number of players who don't have much value to their current team, who are now getting outright released so they can go try to pursue opportunities elsewhere. Kyle Orton and now Donovan McNabb are two examples, Sage Rosenfels is a third possibility though Miami decided it was in their interests to retain him.

Some of these players could probably have been traded if the NFL trade deadline wasn't so early - the Tuesday after week 6 of the regular season, or about 1/3 of the way through the season. Most of the major sports leagues have their trade deadlines closer to 2/3 of the way through the regular season.

Would you like to see the NFL move the trade deadline back? If so, how far should they push it back? If not, why do you think it would be a bad idea?

I voted to keep it like it is. Mainly because I like to see teams pull their own weight and grow and gel as a team to get to the postseason. Moving the trade deadline back would probably lead to some ridiculous one-sided deals that push one team over the top with a rent-a-player concept. It's a lot like what happens in baseball and why I partly why I don't care for that sport. If a team is close enough by the trade deadline, they can basically purchase a championship. Just my opinion, but the current trade deadline prevents these types of deals that leverage a teams fortunes. I like to see them earn the playoffs with as much of thier yearlong roster as possible.
