Should we bump McNabb up with the Holcomb Trade? (1 Viewer)

McNabb has slid in 2 of my 3 drafts, and I actually nabbed him at 6.04 of a 12 teamer. I wasn't crazy about it upon further review, but I will say I'm buoyed with them shipping Holcomb out of town. Not that he was the second coming, but you've got to think he's got the full faith of the Philly medical staff.

Or was this to be expected and keep him status quo?

Hey Smack Tripper,

While I think McNabb has shown enough this preseason to warrant consideration in the top 6-8 at his position, I don't think Kelly Holcomb's trade has any impact on McNabb's outlook one way or another. Holcomb was a throw in with the Takeo Spikes trade and from the day he was acquired, it was generally accepted that he would be traded or released by the time 53-man rosters were in effect. A.J. Feeley is (and has been) the Eagles QB2 all offseason/preseason and would start if Donnie Mac were injured. And obviously Kevin Kolb's roster spot as QB3 is rock solid given the investment (high 2nd round pick) and his potential long-term value to the franchise.

It is no bump for McNabb

They can only have 3 QB on the roster and had A.J. Feeley and drafted Kolb. There was no room for Holcomb.

The only way they would have kept Holcomb would have been if a QB got injured in the preseason or if Kolb was horrible.

It is more a validation that they like Kolb enough for Kolb to be the #3 QB.

If Kolb were horrible they would have made up a fake injury and IR'ed him for the year...

No, from what I saw Holcomb was clearly the worst of the 4 QBs in Eagles camp and Feeley looked good enough for Reid to have faith in him as a backup. He was pretty much getting cut so long as McNabb didn't internally combust.

I will say though that McNabb should already be squarely placed somewhere in the top 6 QBs this year (w/ Manning as one, and Brady, Brees, Palmer, Bulger, and McNabb all interchangeable).

I would say that if Holcombe had any impact on McNabb's perceived value then the earth being made of cheese is entirely plausible as well.

...and while the acl injury may be looking good, there will likely be a new injury say around week 8-9. Gotta side with history here.
