Shuke's 1400 favorite songs by 1400 different artists. (3 Viewers)

I only received lists from 6 people.  Here is a breakdown of how many of the artists submitted appear on my list:

3 of 3 (all three in my top 20)

Oh. I thought you were just adding the songs/artists to your list.  Didn’t know I needed to match.   I’m guessing I’m the one who is 0-3?

373. Beck - Dear Life

The Golden Age
Girl
Where It's At
I guess I'm the only person who thinks "Devil's Haircut" is among his best? (And, yes, I realize it's nothing but mostly a mish-mash of samples.  I still stand by it.)  Meh.  I'm pretty okay with this.

Golden Age is also pretty great, even though I've always felt it's only about a half an inch from a country song (which is NOT my bag, bay-bee).

I own a Rhino comp of The Spinners that I got for a few bucks in a discount bin. Its location was sad; the purchase a great one and worth more than every penny I paid.

One of my pet peeves is when a comp is screwed up even when there was solid career material to work with. Rhino Records seemed to do the best job of putting these things together.

I think you're right. I think Rhino kills with comps and tends to pick later career songs that are actually good and worthy of being with "the hits." It's why I specifically mentioned them as the label, because I think that those in the know at Rhino generally get what made the artist tick and work. They do a great job with re-releases of stuff, too.

On personal notes, in a bit of a record collecting phase, I joined their mailing list. Also have been known to check for jobs on their site, though nothing has been forthcoming that way. I think they're quite coveted positions, especially being around L.A.

Anyway, I consider them sort of a go-to label; a highbrow K-Tel, as it were.

Thanks for the suggestions.  You are correct I have not vetted their entire catalog. But I stand by my choice after listening to these.
Fair enough. But if you’re going to claim that a specific song of a band is your favorite then I think you owe it to the process to listen to every piece of music, recorded or live, before making your choice. Time to scrap this list and start again once you’ve done your homework.

I love how he straddles so many genres.

366. The Kings - This Beat Goes On/Switchin To Glide

I went to grad school at University of Kentucky.  My entire weekdays, when not in class, were spent in the lab.  A couple other guys and I would take turns with music choice, or we'd just turn on one of the local rock stations.  There was one, don't remember which, that would play this song every Friday at 5:00 PM.

I thought the song and the entire concept was ridiculously stupid.  But after hearing it a few times, I actually looked forward to hearing the station do this just so we could make fun of it. But then I actually started liking it.  And then at some point it represented the ending of a week of long hours and start of the weekend.

It's a true tale of turning from hating it, to loving to hate it, to loving it.

Going to need more comments like this if you guys want me to keep going.  Feel like I lost my fan club now that I'm really getting to the good stuff.
you are hard to keep up with man ...3-5 an evening ...unless the comments are going strong.

it's not a race, I hope for your wife's sake this is not how you approach sex.   :pickle:

359. Billy Preston - That's The Way God Planned It

Billy Preston – vocals, piano, organ, tack piano.
George Harrison – electric and acoustic guitars.
Eric Clapton – electric guitar.
Keith Richards – bass.
Ginger Baker – drums, tambourine.
Doris Troy – backing vocals
Madeline Bell – backing vocals

Also considered: Nothing From Nothing, Outa-Space
Heard this song twice this weekend on the Beatles Channel.  Don't really love the song, but that's a helluva lineup.  Nothing From Nothing runs over this, backs up, something something.

"Don't You Want Me" runs over this song, then backs over it ...several times ...and then disposes of it in the Port Newark Harbor.

Outside that ...it's a distant second.
