Silicon Valley - New Mike Judge 8-Part HBO Series (6 Viewers)

Love how they keep taking shots at Mark Cuban.
maybe i'm not up on my mark cuban history or my silicon valley history, what are the shots?
all he ever did was put radio on the innernet, like the jag on the show
broadcast.com was radio on the internet? i thought it was some video streaming thing.

I do know he was one of the people that got lucky that he sold for a ridiculous overprice, got out, and gets to be a billionaire playboy.

I read Mark Cubans wiki - man if i were him i would've darn near quit after he sold his first company for 6 million and netted 2 mil.

I certainly wouldn't work as hard as he does now after becoming a billionaire.

Why is putting the radio on the Internet looked down upon?
That is a good question.. maybe because it's an older technology just put on a newer format.

But honestly I thought they were spoofing the people who create and are behind tunein radio which is a way to tune into almost any radio station on the planet.

And I like that app because I love Barbadian Reggae after visiting there, and there's nothing like what they play on their own radio stations, it's a cool app

I think it is because, in retrospect, it looks like one of those things that was going to be inevitable and was not particularly technologically innovative.

One of the worst tech acquisitions of all time.

clearly they overpaid by billions... yahoo made a lot of crappy acquisitions.

I do think it would be pretty awesome to be ridiculously overpaid for something, then see it basically implode after you sold it... and then live out the rest of your days in luxury

I forgot about the earring line. I knew he said something near the end that cracked me up but couldn't remember what it was.

:lmao:

I love that the chick was like "I definitely can't be in the room when you're discussing this" and she storms out, only to see her a second later standing by a door that's ajar, still commenting on the discussion.

noticed that too.

she doesn't get much to do that's funny... but that was decent.

She doesn't get much to do at all, which is too bad. She does a really good job as a straight man. Woman.

You think they will find those ear rings?
I was almost falling out of my chair at this line reading by Martin Starr.
wow.. just googled him- had no idea he was on freaks and geeks!
Would recommend Party Down (which he's in) to anyone who hasn't seen it already/likes Silicon Valley.
Party Down is awesome. It was a Starz series. Very similar in style but on the service industry instead of tech.

Radio is basically the same whether it's on the internet or not.

The real innovation was putting fantasy football on the internet.

Great episode as usual. I thought most of it wasn't lol funny and a little predictable - you knew Russ was going to be worth 900ish million before the joke hit... But then I almost burst into tears I was laughing so hard at the site names.

Another little background thing in several episodes... They drink Ballast Point Sculpin in cans.
There always seem to be a variety of subtle background things that crack me up. Last episode, when Richard barges into EndFrame, Erlich is in the background drinking the drink from the waiting room after Richard was adamant he didn't take one. Jared with his glove on picking up trash was holding a string cheese wrapper. I don't know, that cracked me up too.

Yes, we all know you hate your job and want to do nothing except sit on your ###. Please don't derail this thread too.

I think another thing about the most recent episode is it's the first one in a little while where things start to look positive for PP (if not for Dinesh). They'd been on a real losing streak (I count Russ as 'loosing') through the first half of the season, everytime it seems like something was going to go their way, it didn't. So it's nice to see them at least seem to come out even or even on top for once (although I don't expect that to last).

"Early Sade - before her arrangements became too baroque"
This line isnt getting enough love
totally missed it- who said it?
Ehrlich, around the same time he was telling Dinesh "you've practically done the deed, which for you means ejaculating in your pants down your leg and apologizing profusely"
:lmao: That whole sequence had me going. Erlich has such great delivery.

My favorite line from this episode: "Now I'm spelling Billion with an "M",
So many great lines in the show. At first I didn't like the three comma guy, but he's adding some solid delivery. Was funny when he's describing how now he can drive a car with the door opening a certain way. Funny in itself, but the guy's delivery was excellent.

And Hooli might be going down? Maybe bighead returns to PP.

The scenes with bighead in them were very well done. From "let's talk about this after lunch" to "well, we have the potato cannon" to "this can be reality for our grandchildren - oh you have not kids"

Yes....this has been the Game of Thrones of comedy so far

The only thing that struck me as off were the engineers at xyz being complete slackers like Big Head. Maybe he's spreading his gospel?
I thought they were his cronies from the top of the roof.

eta. as opposed to the bottom of the roof.

i love how he is now known as "bag head". makes me laugh every time

and i saw an interview with Mike Judge where he said they had to have them losing because if they kept winning it wasn't funny. i think he said they had to rewrite most of season 2 because of it. successful people just were not funny or relateable

I think a show about a great idea/algorithm that faces a lot of obstacles along the way is the only real viable show. A crummy idea that hit some resistance would be pretty dull and would last...an episode? A great idea that faces no resistance is basically Northern California Entourage with less nudity.

Definitely. I wasn't saying that I don't understand the reasons the story is told the way it is, just that it was nice to see them get a win.

I haven't really gotten into GoTs, but alongside Silicon Valley and John Oliver, HBO's Sunday night lineup has to be one of the most formidable nights of television ever. I get that we're in a historic high point for tv. But SV and John Oliver are probably my favorite two comedy shows currently airing, and Thrones is certainly one of the most popular non-comedies.
