Sitting Outside in Northern Wisconsin - Ask Me Anything (1 Viewer)

My uncle lives up here, so this morning he and his buddy were gonna float the Wisconsin river. I met them at their take out point and drove up with them so I could bring back their vehicle and boat trailer so at the end of the day its waiting for them.

For good measure I brought them a 12” sucker they could use as muskie bait. They caught a 48” muskie within 3 minutes of leaving the dock.

:headbang:

Me a NJ mosquito are no bueno, I need to slather in bug spray and run thermo cells just to pretend to sit on my deck

The ladybugs…..errrr…….Japanese beetles apparently hatched today. Hundreds of them. Maybe thousands hanging out on the siding of the house and shops.

Any beers being drunk?
I had to promise to drink daily when I signed up for my Wisconsin drivers license. So, yes.
Spotted Cow? PBR? Miller Lite?
I’m a Miller Lite guy for the house wine.

We do have some spotted cow handy for guests. Bar at the end of my road serves it on tap if I ever need to get one of those. Busch Light is the beer for the people up here apparently.

Truth. If you don't have a 30 pack ready to go in the garage you're doing it wrong.

Never liked the AB beers. Busch, Bud Light, etc. I’m more of a Coors Light, Modelo or Molson Canadian guy if I’m doing that but I generally try to buy Michigan made beer (even if the biggest breweries here sold out to foreign companies as well).

What advice do you have for a 17 year old living in Illinois? (For my son)

Depends. If he’s happy there stay there. My brother lives there for now.

I have family in northern Illinois. My aunt lives in Freeport. Grandfather had a farm over there. I don’t have any real Illinois hate like the regulars up here.

Best sweet corn I’ve ever eaten came from my grandfathers farm.

How does northern WI compare to KC?
I should have moved here 20 years ago. 94 degrees in KC right now.

**** that.
Ugh even still now? I’ve heard KC/St Louis is brutal in the summer.
Yeah, it’s been getting worse over the last ten years. The climate up here suits us much better. We love winter and the snow. We can get out in it and actually do stuff.
Luckily that hasn’t quite hit Michigan. Our summers are hotter than before and it gets hot earlier but we are 78 today. Very nice.

That shift in weather was part of the reason we came here. My hunch is winters up here, while still hard, will mellow some over the next 25 years.

We also have access to fresh water here via a spring that runs across the front of my property, and we have the ability to grow my own food. And we can always find fish. Thinking long term in case my kids need a relatively safe space to get to if necessary.

Plus it’s so damn quiet here and I can see the stars. No light pollution where I am. We are very blessed to be here.
