IMO, we have 5 decent backs that were drafted into interesting situtations. In no particular order
Helu - We can all see the size speed combo and certainly some limitations, but he is a nice fit for the zone blocking system and of course Shanny's track record with rb's. Overall compettion for the job is very weak
Carter - Sleeper rb of many. Another good size speed combo. Indy needs to improve it's power run game and it would seem that Carter is at least capable of that. Indy offense. Overall competition for the job is weak.
Vereen - IMO, the most talented of these backs. Many don't see him as a 3 down back, but I can see him getting at least as many touches as law firm. NE offense. Overall competition for the job is weak to very weak. Law firm may not even be back.
A Green - Good size speed combo and very capable as a receiver. Joins the Superbowl champs who had many other rb choices, yet they draft him. Competition is good, but injury prone/coming off major injury. Grant will likely be gone in 2012. Hard to see any difference in talent between he and Starks.
Powell - I think this guy is capable of being a primary ball carrier/3 down back Not a heavy 3 down workload though, so he will need a good #2 power/goalline back. Competition is average. Greene is good, but IMO fits the #2 power/goalline back better than a number 1. That leaves LT, who at best has a limited role this year/gone next yr and McNight, IMO isn't as talented as Powell.
Murray - Could be a sixth
