There is no question this guy has been a disappointment since joining the league. In all fairness though he has shown several signs of being a pretty good NFL WR despite being on some bad teams. When he plays he has been a virtual lock for 50 receptions 700+ yards and 5 TDs...see below

So perhaps he falls into the category of Ricky Williams in taking some time off to get his head on straight will pay dividends on the field. He is only 27, never had a significant injury and I think all agree was one of the best college WRs ever. The talent and NFL size is there.
Now with Galloway out this week most likely it's Bryant's opportunity to shine in an offense that suits him well. Personally I think Galloway has jumped the shark, he couldn't pratice all preseason then gets hurt in week 2. I think Bryant takes this job and never looks back. He did drop 2 balls Sunday but may just be a case of getting the rust off in a real game situation after taking a year off. Despite the drops Gruden wants to get the ball to him more often moving forward.
Here is an except from a article supporting this.
There is bad news, however. Griese will likely have to try and beat his former team without the services of the Bucs' No. 1 receiver as a target.
Joey Galloway suffered an ankle injury in the third quarter of Sunday's game and did not return.
Gruden said that he was awaiting a report on Galloway's injury from the team's medical staff, which he will announce on Wednesday.
"He's getting evaluated. Obviously there's some concern," Gruden said.
The anxiety is magnified because the Buccaneers have no other wide receiver who is anywhere near the downfield threat of Galloway, who can dictate coverages.
Antonio Bryant, who started at flanker opposite Galloway in the first two games, will most likely replace Galloway. But Bryant dropped two balls against the Falcons and had zero catches. Bryant had three catches for 43 yards in the season opener at New Orleans.
"Antonio Bryant spent most of training camp playing the split end position," Gruden said. "We'd like to hit him. We had a chance for an explosive play. He's a physical player we have got to get the ball to."
