There is no question this guy has been a disappointment since joining the league. In all fairness though he has shown several signs of being a pretty good NFL WR despite being on some bad teams. When he plays he has been a virtual lock for 50 receptions 700+ yards and 5 TDs...see below

YR TM G RSH YD Y/R TD TRG REC YD Y/R TD FPT RANK

2002 DAL 16 6 40 6.7 0 92 44 733 16.7 6 113 32 0

2003 DAL 16 2 0 0.0 0 80 39 550 14.1 2 67 69 0

2004 CLE 10 0 0 0.0 0 94 42 546 13.0 4 105 38 0

2004 DAL 5 0 0 0.0 0 94 16 266 16.6 0

2005 CLE 16 1 3 3.0 0 123 69 1009 14.6 4 125 25 9

So perhaps he falls into the category of Ricky Williams in taking some time off to get his head on straight will pay dividends on the field. He is only 27, never had a significant injury and I think all agree was one of the best college WRs ever. The talent and NFL size is there.

Now with Galloway out this week most likely it's Bryant's opportunity to shine in an offense that suits him well. Personally I think Galloway has jumped the shark, he couldn't pratice all preseason then gets hurt in week 2. I think Bryant takes this job and never looks back. He did drop 2 balls Sunday but may just be a case of getting the rust off in a real game situation after taking a year off. Despite the drops Gruden wants to get the ball to him more often moving forward.

Here is an except from a article supporting this.

There is bad news, however. Griese will likely have to try and beat his former team without the services of the Bucs' No. 1 receiver as a target.

Joey Galloway suffered an ankle injury in the third quarter of Sunday's game and did not return.

Gruden said that he was awaiting a report on Galloway's injury from the team's medical staff, which he will announce on Wednesday.

"He's getting evaluated. Obviously there's some concern," Gruden said.

The anxiety is magnified because the Buccaneers have no other wide receiver who is anywhere near the downfield threat of Galloway, who can dictate coverages.

Antonio Bryant, who started at flanker opposite Galloway in the first two games, will most likely replace Galloway. But Bryant dropped two balls against the Falcons and had zero catches. Bryant had three catches for 43 yards in the season opener at New Orleans.

"Antonio Bryant spent most of training camp playing the split end position," Gruden said. "We'd like to hit him. We had a chance for an explosive play. He's a physical player we have got to get the ball to."

i would like to be confident as i own him but i am not feeling particularly excited.

your writings do little to fill me with actual confidence. and i mean no offense to you. thank you for your work.

he started off the season bad, already had a knee issue...not so psyched.

FWIW, he has 3,880 career receiving yards. Not bad for a 2nd round pick. The thing about Bryant is he always manages to screw up every opportunity he gets. Hopefully he's finally gotten his behavior under control.

I agree that he could be a nice sleeper in redraft and dynasty leagues. Just don't give up anything valuable to get him.

Well, he's better than Ginn (sigh). Possibly a good fill-in for Week 4 when some big names have byes.
I'm in the similar boat. I was hoping Ginn could be my WR3 but I'm going to drop him like ah, so many things that I've dropped before..I'm an SF guy and Bryant actually played well in 2006. He was fairly consistent, had good hands and has some speed. I haven't seen a TB game and don't have much confidence in Griese but he could be a better sleeper than some of the other WRs on the wire. At least I hope he will be..

I think the only value in that passing game is Hilliard in PPR. He'll probably be good for at least 5/50 just about every week. Not sexy and not starter material, but steady bye-week filler.

I think his week 2 numbers are pretty indicative of what to expect from Bryant

All I can say is he's no David Boston

Bryant got targets 7 or so targets from Garcia in wk1, but Griese didnt even see him in wk2. (1 or 2 targets I forget which). That being said if you already picked up Bryant in a deeper league i'd wait for 1 more Griese start without Galloway to see if he gets some looks. Not many better upsides in deeper leagues. Regular PPR leagues Hillard seems like the safer pickup.

I own Bryant in a league, and if I can find somebody to drop him for, I would.

The guy just sucks. He drops balls at a ridiculous rate and always has. Everybody always touts his "talent", but a tiny little part of WR talent is catching balls.

How many times is Griese going to go to Bryant when he drops both balls that were thrown to him? I know I wouldn't.

I picked him up after Week 1 when I lost both Colston & Burleson, expecting Galloway to bust/get hurt & open the door for Bryant.

I have tempered expectations, & I'm hoping Bryant can be a good bye week filler- basically replacing what I lost in Burleson.

I'm pretty sure it was two, and at least one should've been a TD. The issues with Bryant getting the ball were Greise's not his, which I know doesn't make anyone feel all that much better, but you gotta figure they'll be getting their reps in this week to work on the chemistry. I drafted Bryant as my 18th round flyer, and I'm going to hang on to him and see what happens this week, not going to give up on it just at the moment he's about to get his big shot. Worth a WW flyer IMO.

Temper your enthusiasm.

He has been targeted 11 times in two games and has caught 27.3% of those targets (3 catches, 0 TDs).

It doesn't matter if he is the #1, 2 or 3 WR on a team if no one can consistently get him the ball, and it's worse if he can't catch it when they do.

After listening to Grudens radio interview I agree Antonio Bryant is a sleeper. It's pretty easy to tell who Gruden likes, and doesn't like by the way he talks. Despite the few drops Bryant had the first game Gruden continues to talk positive about him, and point out all the good things he is doing. He specifically pointed out a block the he made to help Dunn. Then again, maybe it is all a ploy to motivate Michael Clayton. If there is any other WR on the Bucs besides Galloway that is worth owning it is Antonio Bryant.

Just need to be patient. I wouldn't expect much scoring at Chicago this week, but after that the Bucs have:GNB @ DEN CAR SEA @ DAL @ KAN bye With the exception of Carolina and possibly Seattle, he could put up decent numbers in games where the offense will have to keep pace.

Sleeper is a strange term in my book. If he does start getting him the ball, many will be targeting him, as soon as next week even. The point here is if you have room, this isn't a bad WR to take a flier on to see what happens.

Hope you grabbed him this week...8 receptions for 93 yards, came up big on the last drive to tie it. He is solid #2/#3 WR material from here on out.

tossed him in the lineup out of desperation this week. guy has always had talent, just been a bit of an enigma. 100 yds off the ww, i'll take it with my WR injuries.

One thing to keep in mind is that Michael Clayton emerged onto the scene with Griese at QB before falling off the face of the earth.

That's not necessarily to compare the two WRs - both do have talent in addition to off-the-field issues - but that Griese has some experience in making a WR fantasy viable, and Gruden doesn't seem to mind letting Griese chuck the ball.
