Sleeper RBs to look out for down the stretch (1 Viewer)

oh, and for a real shot in the dark how about greg jones? teams dont take concussions lightly anymore. JAX seems committed to a 2 back system.
Totally agree on Jones. They're paying him a running back's salary and he's shown he can get the job done when called upon (see 2005 game logs)
He's so far under the radar it isn't even funny. Fred Taylor has been pathetic this year. He has two more concussions than tds. Here's my favorite stat: taylor has been outscored by jones in half of the jags games this year based on my leagues scoring and get this - jones has a grand total of one carry all year. When you see a guy who's more effective with way less opportunities, its just a matter of time before the coaching staff starts getting that guy more involved. Worth rostering? I'd say so, because there's no real telling when he could step up.
Just because his game stats aren't FF worthy doesn't mean he has been pathetic. Taylor is not going anywhere anytime soon barring Doctor's orders.

Great thread.

On any list like this one, I would think that all sharks would know immediately that Najeh Davenport would occupy #2 on the list, yet he isn't even mentioned. :bag:

I do like DWard and KJones for the reasons mentioned by davearm. I am hoping to run into a Grant owner who is disgruntled soon. I actually think this is the time to buy low on Grant.

The sleeper RB's are impossible to predict because they require a severe injury to a #1 RB behind a good offensive line to produce. Even then you have to make sure they aren't "cancelled", as davearm characterized it, by an obvious partner who is also stuck behind the current #1 RB. Ward is nice because he is both the heir apparent and a decent bye-week-play, especially in PPR. Leon Washington is also in that discussion, but obviously both of those guys are already owned in your league.

The topic is crucial because blind-luck RB's dropping into someone's lap often do decide fantasy seasons, but there is no way to actually predict who is going to get hurt, obviously. The best you can do is "sit" on RB's who would be most valuable if an injury to the starter did occur.

Not a Dr. by any means...but after a knee surgery or two, or three. Keep an eye on the FWP situation. I can relate to thinking I was ready to go, twisted my knee in a small hole, had to start all over again, it ripped everything.

Anyway MeMo...just keep an eye on.

What about Earnest Graham becoming the next Earnest Graham? If Dunn gets hurt (he's old, it's possible) he would do great with the lionshare of carries. He is #14 in my league in a RBBC as we speak.

I saw that Dunn was limited in practice this week with a back injury and will be questionable for Sunday's game against the Cowboys.

Every year some waiver wire RBs make an impact for redraft owners late in the season and into the playoffs. Here's a few I have a very close eye on:

1) Cadillac Williams -- Tampa Bay has a decent front line, and with their FB woes Earnest Graham might be moved to that role and Dunn will see the RB load. However, Gruden loves Cadillac and if he is reactivated to the active roster week 8 or 9 I would seriously consider making roster room for him. We'll get a better idea of what his role will be depending on whether or not Bennett is demoted.

2) Kenny Watson -- Yes, the Bengals are a mess. Yes, they just signed Cedric Benson. But Watson is the only RB on their roster to be able to have any success on that team. He's resigned, and reports are that he looks healthy in practice. He's got good hands and should get a chance for carries sometime soon thanks to Perry's fumbleitis and Benson's unimpressiveness.

3) Jesse Chatman -- A team like the Jets wouldn't have held onto this guy despite his 4-game steroid suspension if they didn't think he could contribute. Thomas Jones had a good outing recently, but Chatman has looked solid whenever he's had the chance to tote the rock the past couple seasons. If he gets a shot to take over (if Jones has a few more poor showings or gets injured), I wouldn't doubt he can put up startable numbers. His situation is more difficult though as he has a clear starter in front of him. I think of him like I do Chester Taylor -- will put up numbers if he gets the start, look to have him rostered if Jones struggles.

Who you got your eye on?
Chatman is likely done for the season. Posted this in the Injury thread, but people might not check:
Jets lose Chatman for the season

The Jets New York Jets appear to have lost reserve running back Jesse Chatman for the season with a left knee injury.

"I would say with Jesse, it doesn't look real good,'' Eric Mangini said today. "Odds are it's going to be season-ending.''

Fred JacksonLadell BettsKevin JonesBrandon Jacksonin that order.
Haven't watched the Bills but traded for Lych, curious of why the Jackson hype?
Because he's good and on a good team, and Betts is coming off injury. I would never wish something happen to Lynch but he did get hurt in his only year last year, and if it happens again, there won't be much of a drop off if any to Jackson's numbers if he were the full time RB. Not to mention there's not 3rd stringer he would really split time with.

Trade for Grant or Graham if you can. I am a Packer homer, and think the only difference between Grant 2007 and Grant 2008, is that he is not seeing his cutback lanes as well. His speed and power seem to be back as his hammy seems to be fully healed. He needs to protect the ball better, and find those lanes that he was so adept at finding last year. The coaches need to pound that into his head. I think they will, and he should come somewhat close to replicating what he did in the 2nd half of the season last year.

So for week 9 fill-in or playoff stretch ,lets update the list.

Kolby Smith-Jamal Charles hurt, LJ not playing. only RB on a bad team

Antonio Pittman- may be a nice play aagainst the cards if SJax is out

Torain- finally ready to play and everyone else is hurt

Caddy- deep sleeper for playoff or waste of roster space this year

Kevin Jones-Forte is carrying a heavy load and doing a great job- can he keep it up. my guess is he can-LJ did his first full year.

Lamont Jordan-personally I think Faulk is the one to have in NE

Green-Ellis- I think Faulk is the play in NE

Wynn- Ryan Grant is struggling, Brandon Jackson has shown nothing. didnt Wynn have a couple od sparks last year.

Ray Rice-if McGahee cant stay healthy

Pierre Thomas-will McCallister be suspended-no

Please comment and add to list

Wynn has zero carries, while Jackson has averaged 5.2 YPC in limited action. I'm not saying Wynn can't be a sleeper RB, but I think Jackson will get the first shot if anything happens to Grant.

I am a recent buyer of Grant (gave up D Bowe for him) and I see him as a 2nd half season guy.

For this thread, if the NEP RB situation would clear, I think L Jordan could be worth a matchup play as RB3/Flex. With Sammy Morris out, I don't think they will use K Faulk as an every down RB... maybe 4-8 carries plus several receptions. Jordan (if healthy) can be the every down RB for 18-22 carries... that is if they don't throw 40x a game.

As for Sleeper value, I like Norwood. Atl schedule has Oaklans, Denver, and the Saints (2x). Turner will get the majority of the work, but they look like a playoff team and they want to preserve him.... They are 4-3 and have the potential to be in the mix. They end rough with TB & Minn, but the idea was to find a sleeper RB worth a roster spot.

Jerome Harrison- seems to do well with limited touches, waiting on an injury for " ol' scissor legs" see if Jerome can pull through!

Look at this upcoming GB rush def schedule:@Ten @Min CHI @NO CAR HOU @Jac @Chi DET

Fred Jackson was just dropped in my league. He's got 19 carries over the past 2 weeks and only had 3 fewer carries than Lynch last week. Lynch is the guy on the goal-line but it seems that if lynch goes down (or maybe even without him getting injured, based on his carries the past few weeks) that Jackson might be worth picking up.

ps - as a torain owner and one who despises the endless speculation everywhere, I can't wait to see him in action.

any word on how long Charles is out for? Because the stats indicate that Charles is the KC RB to own (if there is such a thing with LJ out) if he can recover soon. I don't see Smith doing anything against the Bucs this week anyway, so i think if charles and get to full speed by week 10, he'll have a shot at earning the starting job.
