Sleeper Tight Ends (1 Viewer)

(Hopefully this thread has not been made already. When I searched the forums, I did not see one)

Anyone have any sleeper tight ends in mind?

Obviously guys like Watson and LJ Smith aren't really sleepers anymore. I have mentioned in another thread my big sleeper TE this year is Jermaine Wiggins. I think he'll produce top 5 numbers this year.

Some people have mentioned Joe Klopfenstein. What about Leonard Pope? Mercedes Lewis? Ben Troupe?

Looking forward to hearing everyone's thoughts.

For some reason I've seen Heath Miller fall in a bunch of drafts. I'm very high on him and like his situation in Pit (especially if Hines Ward has continued problems with his hammy).

I think Pope could be a sleeper. He is a rookie, but the starting TE for Arizona. He is 6"8, so he would be a nice red zone target. Warner threw him a TD in the last preseason game.

In deeper leagues...

Courtney Anderson - OAK

Oakland will be using the TE a lot this year....

Tight Ends Big Part Of Raiders Offense?

Associated Press, ESPN - [Full Article]

QB Aaron Brooks dropped back to pass on his second play from scrimmage and found TE Courtney Anderson for an easy 9-yard completion. The strategy continued all game long, as Raiders tight ends had 10 catches against San Francisco, a big change from recent years. HC Art Shell has stressed all training camp that his offense is suited to those big guys in the middle of the field, and it's beginning to show. "I have always said since I first got here that our tight ends are going to be an integral part of what we do," Shell said. " In our scheme, the tight end will be a factor for us."

Raiders Top 49ers, QB Brooks Sharp

Josh Dubow, Associated Press - [Full Article]

HC Art Shell's first game coaching in Oakland gave the Raiders' fans plenty to cheer about. QB Aaron Brooks threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to WR Doug Gabriel on Oakland's opening drive, and QB Andrew Walter led two second-half scoring drives. Oakland improved to 3-0 in preseason under Shell. After completing only one pass in each of Oakland's first two exhibition games, Brooks came out looking sharp. Brooks relied heavily on his tight ends, completing two passes to Courtney Anderson and three to Randal Williams, including a 39-yarder.

TE Anderson Shoud Assist WR Moss

Jerry McDonald, InsideBayArea.com - [Full Article]

"We want to throw the ball to our tight ends," Raiders HC Art Shell said. "If you're throwing the ball to the tight end, that opens up the outside for the other receivers. You won't be able to cover them all." TE Courtney Anderson reiterated and praised his new coaches understanding of offense: "In the opener last year (against New England), I had two touchdowns, and the next game I didn't have the ball thrown my way…. It was frustrating, but I didn't take it personally. This year, I think the tight end is going to get some looks every game."

Raiders

TE Anderson Should Benefit From Better OL

Anthony Carroll, RealFootball365.com - [Full Article]

TE Courtney Anderson was on the receiving end of 12 of Oakland's 20 points in the team's Week One loss at New England. In the following 16 weeks, he added just one additional touchdown to his season total, finishing with just 24 receptions for 303 yards. This may have been due to the teams need to have the tight ends stay in and block. This season, Oakland's line looks to be greatly improved from a mix-and-matched batch of players that made up the front in 2005. This may allow Anderson to live up to his potential.

on that list I'd say...Troupe.........KlopenPopeLewisTroupe may be the only decent player on that team. His competition for receptions will be Bennett/Givens, not exactly world beaters. I wouldn't be shocked at all if Troupe were top 5.
