SNL is Friggin' Horrible! Except when Timberlake is hosting. (4 Viewers)

this is sweet.  i am definitely interested in seeing what cumberbatch does (even if I'm not sure how good he will be) and I am ####### psyched for Chappelle.

This should be some really good creative energy/inspiration.  will be sad if the writers can't get it done with these guys.
It would be a quick recurrence, but I'm looking forward to Black Jeopardy with a Chapelle character as one of the contestants.

Looking it up, I forgot how many times they have done black jeopardy.

Stern is the first person I know of to do it, and chappelle basically did it with I know black people on his show, so I kind of rolled my eyes with it when SNL did it, but certainly the last one was incisive.

I am prepared to be disappointed, but secretly hoping for some crazy amazing Chappelle stuff in light of the election results.
I have read that Baldwin is not going to do Trump any longer. I don't know if that meant after tonight, or effective immediately. I would understand if he didn't want to make a long-term commitment, but it seems kind of a doosh move to bail so suddenly. It hurts the continuity of the show, (throwing in Darrell Hammond would be distracting), and reeks of being a sore loser. Not to mention showing a lack of gratitude to Lorne Michaels, and Tina Fey for giving his dormant career a good shot of adrenaline.

Hated the opening (I don't think they should show sides) - Chapelle is killing it though.  Funnier than anything they've had on here for years.  And the censors are asleep at the wheels. :lmao:

Forgot what a letdown the election must have been for McKinnon. Chance to play the president for the next 4 years down the tubes. The opening was a little odd. I guess they wanted to do an offbeat Leonard Cohen tribute.

Chapelle & Rock made me laugh more right then than I have in the last ten episodes I've seen put together.

I completely forgot about Cohen - makes it a little better I guess.

The Cumberbatch episode was one of the worst ever. I thought Hanks was pretty solid. Black Jeopardy with a Trump Supporter was an elite sketch.

Unfortunately, I always seem to catch the especially bad ones (the Cumberbatch one is the one of those I saw).  Need to look up the black jeopardy one.

Part way thru I was like...this is awesome...and wondered if Chapelle would ever be back or even make it thru the thing.

SNL had Trump host during the election cycle. they are 100% complicit in the Trump victory. Zero doubt Lorne is a Trump supporter these days.

The open and Chapelle's monologue were as good as that show has ever been.

And no way Lorne is a Trump supporter, for whoever said that. He runs one of the most enduring liberal institutions in this country.

Yep - Chapelle was fantastic - funny and poignant.

I will say that while I expect a liberal slant it definitely toed the line last night.  It's tough because I don't want them to do that - I want them to make fun of both sides.  But I also think Trump deserves whatever he gets.

Which was weird, you don't see people smoking on TV much anymore.
Well, he also used the N-word a decent amount and we heard ##### at least half a dozen times.  Best episode in a LONG time.  I'd fire everybody on the show except for McKinnon and let Dave have the reigns.  I know he's not up to it and I know that Lorne wouldn't give him that control but damn was it a noticeable difference.  I'd be curious to know how much of the overall show he wrote or had a part in writing.

People have been offering him all the money in the world to get him to run his own show for years. It's hard to imagine he wants to work for somebody else.

This was the first episode I recorded since last season because Chappelle was on. It was ok, but I thought even his monologue was a bit flat, especially the first half of it. They missed a golden opportunity to show Hillary freaking out when the results came in but I guess that would be too real and they're all still in shock and aren't really sure how to react. Chris Rock was horrible. Did he even know any of the lines before walking on stage? I fast-forwarded through the opening song and most of the rest of the show, including the news.

Oh well, back to ignoring SNL.

I thought the opening was ridiculous. If you just woke up from a coma and that's what was on, you would have thought s 9/11 level terrorist attack had just happened.

SNL leans liberal and makes absolutely no apologies for it,  and that's totally fine. Everyone knows that going in. But Trump winning wasn't some national tragedy. He's completely unqualified and an awful person and there's no way he should have been elected. But the reason he was elected was because he was going up against the one person who was unlikable enough to lose to him.  This wasn't evil triumphing over good. This was giant doosh beating turd sandwich.  And if SNL and every other liberal media platform out there hadn't spent the past decade trying to convince everyone that turd sandwich wasn't all that bad,  (despite everything that said otherwise, real or imagined) it never would have been nominated in the first place

Loved Chapelle. Thought he was awesome. Really hope he comes back onto the scene now in a big way.

This might be a "bubble" thing, but among people I know and associate with the Trump win is absolutely being treated as a national tragedy.  I really can't think of anything that has shaken people this much since 9/11.  I suspect the people working on SNL are surrounded by pretty much the same sentiment.

You are so spot on. I work in event staging (AV) here in NY and I make sure not to let anyone know I'm a Republican because I would lose work. The days following the election really did remind me of the days after 9/11. The subway ride in was so quiet with a few people crying as they read their phones. Conversations felt like I was at a funeral. It was all I could do to try and hide my joy.

What? People need to get a grasp on reality. Or stay home in their safety zone.

Let's not turn this thread into a political thread, but if this is your reaction, you have zero idea what's going on in left-leaning areas right now.  The superintendent of schools for our school system (one of the largest in the country) sent all parents an email talking about how traumatic the election has been for lots of kids and letting them know about counselors and other social services available for kids who need them.

It might help "pierce the bubble" if more of this got fleshed out, but in some other thread.

That open with Hillary singing and playing piano was the worst opening I've ever seen. Was there something before that that my DVR missed that was epic?

I feel like there are 4 types of people who watched the opening:

- Liberals who like Leonard Cohen
- Liberals who don't like Leonard Cohen or have never heard of him
- Conservatives who like Leonard Cohen
- Conservatives who don't like Leonard Cohen or have never heard of him

The first two groups thought the opening was great and the 3rd group probably thought it was a good but unimportant performance. I'm gonna guess that you belong to group #4.
