So hungover this morning I accidently wore two different shoes (2 Viewers)

Why was it clearly not real?
I said I had been feeling that way recently because I was unemployed, not "OMG I'm going to kill myself if nobody helps me"!!!!

P see and hear what they want. Probably best not to even argue with the kind of person that paints anyone dealing with depression as an attention whore.

Yes bruh, this! More of this. F*** the haters man. Leave em be. Don't even waste your effort engaging them. The back and forth will not go anywhere.

 Yep

One weird thing about this restaurant. We don't get assigned tables and work as a team in sections. Tips are pooled. Does anyone have experience with this? Can it be a good or bad thing?

This is obviously good for bad servers who generate bad tips, and bad for great servers who generate great tips.

My local hole-in-the wall mexican restaurant does this.

Do the servers work in teams or do they have assigned tables?

Is this sort of thing becoming common?

Just got hired on the spot at a hot new steakhouse in downtown Dallas. They also said they will let me learn the ropes behind the bar as well.
This is a good start. There's no shame in waiting tables. If it's an expensive steakhouse you could even make some good money off of it.

Put the customer first. Be a good waiter. Give them what they want, quickly, but don't give them so much attention that they get annoyed.

Do what you can to learn the bar, but remember that your primary goal is giving the customers a good experience.

And don't worry about the group tips. You just got hired. Learn the ropes before you start thinking a different way would be better.

The stupidity of people amazes me. I encountered 3 in less than 10 minutes.

Picked up a couple of tall boys. The guy that has sold me beer at least 100 times once again asks me if I want brown bags for them. I told him once again, laughing it off to not seem like a jerk, " Dude ive been in here a million times. You know I'm not cracking them open behind the 7-11".

I was wearing khakis and a button down shirt not hobo clothes

Usually that stops him from asking for a couple weeks.

Then I'm driving through my complex. There is room for 2 cars to pass eachother with divergent parking spaces lining the roadway. I'm driving down and a guy coming head on at me is on the left side of the road and didn't think to turn until we were about 15 feet away from eachother and I had to hit my brakes

Then there is an SUV parked in the precise middle of the road, preventing cars from passing on either side and blocking the only spot directly in front of my apartment. The guy is standing halfway out his door on the phone. After politely waiting about 15 seconds without honking my horn he looks at me. I point to the spot "can you move up so I can park there"?

The guy reverses a few feet and then pulls in to the spot I asked for so now I have to drive all the way around my building and back the way I came to get a spot I drive passed because there isn't enough room to make a U turn. When I came around the guys car is gone and I got the spot I asked for.

So instead if moving over 5 or 6 feet so I could get by the guy pulls in to a space to let me pass. WTF.

I knew this day was going to well and some minor annoyances had to happen.

I'd like the FFAs opinion.

Do you guys and gals get insulted if you are buying loose cans of beer and they ask you if you want brown bags? Like they are implying you are drinking them in public.

Sometimes people want bags to carry things. Or maybe that's just me. Had you wanted a bag and he didn't ask, would you have posted about how pissed you were he didn't ask if you wanted a bag. This may be something you can use in your new customer service job. Don't assume someone wants, or doesn't want something. Your (and his) job is to take care of the customer.

Also, he probably doesn't take notes on every customer.

Why am I explaining this.  You're not his only customer and I'm sure he's not keeping track of your bagging habits.

And who the #### buys loose cans

Notba regular plastic bag. He had that ready. He asked if I wanted brown bags for the beer.

So? And that puts you in known bagging status?
It's at least the tenth time I've had to tell him I'm not drinking in public. Most of the time I come in there after work in business attire. The guy knows me and I always say hello and ask him "How ya doin".

He knows I'm not a bum.

When I got money I buy a sixer of craft beer. When I don't I buy tall boys of piss water.

95% of the time I buy six packs.

Here's a hint....not everyone who drinks out of a brown paper bag is a bum....not is putting a beer in a brown bag = drinking in public like you have assumed.

I'm pretty sure the guy has been in prison. Am I being culturally insensitive by assuming he doesn't know everyone isn't drinking in public?

I have a plastic bag for that. A brown bag does not cover a tallboy. Why would I need a bag if I'm not drinking in public?
Odd every bomber I get is usually put in brown paper bag and then put in the plastic bag. That way there is some type of protection when something else in the bag hits the bottle.

These were cans. The only glass tall boys I've seen at this 7-11 are Modelos.

Congrats on the new job, man. Sounds like a really solid opportunity, make the most of it.

Also, good job ignoring the negativity of a select few. Their opinions are irrelevant.

Thanks. It's a very beautiful restaurant. I think it will make a name for itself and my goal is to be the go to guy and get some experience.

What other reason would people need a brown bag ?
not sure about the ABC laws in TX, but up until a few years ago in CA you weren't  supposed to carry beer out of a liquor store w/out a bag...singles or six-packs. same applied for bottles of wine & spirits. 12 packs or bigger were ok.

maybe the guy at the store was just doing his job by asking?

Plastic or paper?

as an aside, when i sell single bottles of wine to guests i will usually ask if they want a bag. not to insinuate that they're gonna pull a cork and sit behind a dumpster, but more for convenience to carry their purchase.

also, the liquor laws in town allow for open container, so there's a little difference there. YMMV

Solution: move somewhere that lets you drink in public.

Also, ask for the bag and save it. The best way to preserve cooking mushrooms is to put them in a small brown bag in the refrigerator and I just never have a small brown bag lying around.  Drives me crazy every time I realize it after buying mushrooms.

I'm going to make note of this

I put shrooms in everything
