So, I stayed 13 hotel nights without maid service. (1 Viewer)

I'm not sure how you could ever eat at a restaurant if you were this paranoid. Maybe stick to camping instead of wasting your money on a hotel.

Can you really just walk in to a hotel/motel and start eating breakfast? Will anyone check if you are a guest?

I feel like im missing out on free chow
There is a Residence Inn near me that I use for co-workers when they come into town. It has a full breakfast, great coffee and free wifi. I work out of my house and the area around me still has a good amount of power lines above ground. We've lost power a decent amount and I started going there for the internet. That led to coffe and eventually breakfast. I've gone a couple of times in the past year even when I did have power.
Awesome!! :lmao:

This is terrific shtick.

yeah, Hampton Inn has free wifi and a pretty cool breakfast, I always wondered if they could ever figure out if you were actually a guest....they can't, I have eaten breakfast for free on occasion. the waffle maker is cool.

Do you bring your own batter? Spray it down with Clorox?

Not sure about you 6 figure earners, but when we travel, we bring our own sheets and immediately drop the do not disturb sign. I have heard many stories about things disappearing from rooms. We just made 13 nites without turndown. Also, my wife showers with her flip flops on. Are we uber paranoid or do you all have the same concerns? :hot:
Totally weird.
I'm not saying you don't stay at nice places when you travel, so say you and the wife travel to another big city (Chicago, LA, etc.) and stay in a JW Marriott or equivalent. It's a $400 or so/night hotel, so obviously for the 2 nights you're there for a weekend you expect nothing short of excellence. The night before, Europeans with a lot of money and bedbugs/nasty hygiene stayed in the same room. Obviously housekeeping is good there or their rep wouldn't hold, but they might not have 100% eradicated them. Things happen.

I'm just saying, you take that risk when you travel, expensive hotel or not. I traveled for 4 years internationally all over the world and have stayed in some 4-5 star hotels, and have definitely stayed in rooms that stunk and/or were not turned over as you'd expect for bedding, showers not as clean as could be, etc. I never got bed bugs, but definitely had a few stays where I questioned the cleaning staff and what was lurking. In close, I don't dismiss X's methods here from a sanitary perspective.
You take a risk when you go out in public. Are you going to wear a mast and live in a bubble?
The one thing about having a mast on your head is people will give you a wide berth.
Well done.

Feels like something George Costanza should have done. I can visualize the scene where he gets nabbed by the hotel manager.

Bringing your own sheets aren't going to stop bed bugs, sorry.

However, I do a pretty thorough inspection of any towel before I use it. About 35% are pretty disgusting.

Hotel? The last 3 years of traveling to Chicago, NY, London, Paris, San Francisco, and Lake Tahoe we've been using Airbnb. Pay 1/2 the amount of a hotel and usually getting your own apartment

Does this work well? Is it kinda creepy?
Works great once you get several good reviews on your account. No one wants to rent their place to someone that's going to trash it. Several companies/people use this to just make money off rental units, but a lot of people rent out their extra homes/apartments/rooms. I'd rather give my money to a person and have a more home style stay somewhere then pay a lot of money for a sterile (or as this thread points out, non-sterile) room that I only sleep in. We're careful to pick places that have a lot of good reviews so we know what we're getting.

Paris we paid $182/night for an apartment in the Marais district from a guy that alternates between his apartment in LA and this apartment in Paris. In London, the sister let us in, while the owners spent their time backpacking Europe and used the rental money to pay their mortgage. We paid $115/night for a private room and we were a 5 minute walk from Big Ben. We took a cheap last minute trip to Chicago for New Years Eve several years ago and stayed in some guy's extra room. I think I paid $25/night when hotels for going for hundreds that weekend. Not much different than a bed-n-breakfast.

Yeah, not going to do that.

I've done this a number of times myself. We always put the DND sign on the door as well for the entire trip. I don't like strangers around my stuff. Plus there is usually illicit substances and private stuff around.

I am going golfing with X Wednesday morning. I think I will put my hands down my pants and then wipe them all over his grips. Hopefully this is happen after we make a large golf bet. ;)

Seems like a great place for some perv to put hidden cameras.

Wow, that breakfast does sound cool!

I take dumps on the bed, plant a tape recorder in the safe, and play the reaction of the maid to my friends when I get home. :moneybag:

You guys sleeping in my #### is just added value.

I've done the free breakfast at places that I haven't stayed in. Enough such that I don't feel weird about it anymore.

I also once walked into the concierge at a hotel and requested extra towels for my room. She pleasantly gave me two towels. I walked out the back door and to my apartment. I just couldn't get myself to do a load of laundry that day.

I've actually stayed in hotels where they give you a breakfast ticket at check-in which you have to present to get the breakfast.

I hate missing the turn down service.
Turn down for what?
It's different with each hotel. They'll all set up the bedsheets different, more to just slip right in. Most will leave chocolates but other have different snacks. In Amsterdam, we couldn't wait to see what they left us. Sometimes a bottle of wine (more in Europe than the US) They'll set the lights and blinds for a nice mood, sometimes with soft music playing. It's just nice to walk into after a night on the town.

Where did you stay in Amsterdam? We stayed at the Ambassade Hotel, which was great as far as location and service was concerned, but we never got wine, mood lights, or music as part of the deal.

We didn't get the full treatment in Amsterdam but we did get the great desserts/treats and wine.

Ugh... I've just about made up my mind that I want to retire to Amsterdam. I loved that place. Better than any other place I've been so far. Like I was born to live there.

I never walk on the carpet with my bare feet regardless of the hotel. Okay...I might walk on the carpet at the Four Seasons or Ritz....but I'll never get to stay in one of these.

messy rooms stress me out big time. nothing better than going out exploring a new city and coming back that evening to a clean room and freshly washed sheets. y'all are weird.
