SP Mock Invitational--5th round? Uh huh....5th round...... (1 Viewer)

So let me get this straight. . .  You champion for the Steelers spending an upper round pick on Jaylon Smith with a horrendous knee injury involving nerve damage that is not even close to fully recovered 6 months later, but a simple ACL to a guy who was rated highly pre-injury for many reasons other than his athleticism is now too risky?
From what I read Joseph's ACL recovery is on schedule. He may miss some or all of training camp as he is on a similar timeline as Gurley for recovery. Not having that first training camp does hurt a rookies integration some, but this guy can play at a high level and should be full go by November if there are no set backs.

I wouldn't say an ACL injury is simple. It is still a serious injury and that carries some risk.

Keep it moving folks. I'm out for a while since I have 38 more picks, but damn it, let's get to the fourth round today!

A 6'7 guy with chicken legs and no bend would get eaten alive as an under tackle IMO.
Here is what Justis Mosqeuda thought of him November 2015 before he transferred:

Carl Nassib, Penn State

Carl Nassib started his career at Penn State as a walk-on and has since grown greatly. My issue with him is this: He can’t even run in a straight line without tripping over his damn feet. He’s not going to come close to producing at the NFL level like he is in college. To me, he’s another Trent Murphy. Nassib would need to gain even more weight to play five-technique as a professional, but that’s the only spot where I can see him still on a roster by 2020.

Thinking C, or MLB, or OG for JAX.

Taken Jalen Ramsey and Kamalei Correa.

Max Tuerk, Kentrell Brothers, Vadal Alexander.....

Vikings select TJ Green FS Clemson.

Speed demon that doesn't really stand out to me on film. His run support and navigation of traffic are lacking, but I think that is something that can be coached to a degree. Green may not have the instincts it takes to be a really great player. But at least he has the physical abilities that if he takes to coaching could become a good player.

The Vikings since Zimmer arrived have seemed to emphasize physical traits and trust coaching more.

Draft is moving. Let's keep it going. I want to pick again. If anyone wants to move down let me know. I've got three 4th rounders and an extra 3rd next year. I'd use them all IRL but this is a mock and I'm bored of waiting!

Sorry for the previous post but the stupid quote boxes won't remove. Nice pick of Jenkins, he was the last piece I had pinpointed to add to the newly toughened Titans defense.
I like him too. Then when I read the NFL.com profile I thought "Welp, that solves that."

Love for the speed of the picks, the actual picks or sarcasm? It's a tough read on this board some times.
Jenkins fits the Ravens so perfectly, it's not even funny.  And a mid 3rd rounder for Jaylon makes sense.  Actually said in the other mock, I expect Jenkins to be a Pat or a Raven.

3.75 Raiders select Darian Thompson, S, Boise St.

A few recent picks thinned out the possibilities here.  Probably would have gone Jenkins or Dixon.

So Reggie McKenzie falls back to BPA.  Despite signing Reggie Nelson, and bringing Nate Allen back, there are no long term answers at safety in Oakland.  With the back to back picks of Keanu Neal and Darian Thompson, the team has turned it's #1 weakness into a strength.  Darian and Keanu are the future at S, and are cheap for 4 years.

Anyone interested in the Titans upcoming pick for a '17 2?
Lol. I'm game for anything at this point. How about 2017 3rd and my 4th and 5th (129 and 160 something?). I'm sitting and waiting to pick up my 3rd grader from a field trip so I'm bored.

Well somuna #####. There goes my guy. I'll still do it because again I'm a little bored.

See post on page 16, I give up.  No more saying Steelers should take Jaylon.

Deal

I think you misunderstand several points:

  1. I think that pre-injury Jaylon Smith was the top prospect this year.  That's pick #1.
  2. I think that pre-injury Karl Joseph was a top 20 prospect.  Let's assume pick #15.
  3. Due to tearing an ACL I think that Karl Joseph dropped about 16-20 picks in value.  He's recovering well thus far.
  4. According to Jaylon Smith's Doctor his recovery is proceeding as planned and there's no reason to think he won't fully recover.  Drop-foot is normal at this stage in his recovery.
  5. Due to ligament and nerve damage I think that Jaylon Smith drops in value to #58 in the draft, that's a drop in 57 picks.
  6. 57>20
  7. January 1 to April 26... not 6 months.  6 months is June 1st.  Also, the Doctor said we should know for certain about the knee 6-8 months after surgery, or June 1 - August 1.
So in summary, the person with the less catastrophic (but still not simple) injury fell less than the guy with the nerve damage.  Also, I would be happy with both players.
This is misinformation.  Drop-foot, or a severed nerve is absolutely not normal, and it would be a small miracle if he had full nerve regeneration, much less pre injury responsiveness.

Using this as a deal.  If this is incorrect, let me know.

I'll take JetMaxx's offer mainly because this is a mock and I just want to make picks. Even though massraider buggered my pick, I'll still do it but give me a few.
Cool and I now stake claim Tenn in the '17 SP Mock Invitational

That would work if we just keep track of all future trades.

Even if the owners changed, the teams would retain picks that were gained in this mock.

But by that time we would likely be more interested in the picks NFL teams actually have in 2017 instead of the trades we made.

I've turned down every trade offer so I don't even recall what that deal was.  I'm good, so according to my records the Titans are up unless that pick has been traded.

Ok, I'm just restating what his doctor said.  I assumed his doctor would know/wouldn't be lying (His Dr. also said the nerve wasn't severed, just stretched).  If he is, I apologize.

Also, can't you do surgery to fix drop-foot?  Adding a tendon or something?  (Clearly, not a medical professional)

It's nerve damage, so adding a tendon, etc will not help.  All of the Dr's accounts I've read say the odds of that nerve will never work correctly, if at all.  His knee can fully heal, but he will be zapped of any reaction time off that foot.  A doctor could not give out details of the injury without permission from player, so anything said by doctor was probably aimed at a best case, if not overly optimistic- or he is inclined to state the positives in what is a horrific and dire injury for a football player.
