Spencer Ware, possibly the new work horse (2 Viewers)

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said he is "a big Spencer Ware fan."
"The kid’s dirty tough. He’s going to give you an honest down every snap," Reid said. "He can block, he can catch, and he can run. So, there’s a place for Spencer." Ware struggled down the stretch last season, but, as Reid said, it "was really his first year" as a lead back, and he still finished with 921 yards on 214 carries (4.3 YPC). The Chiefs might look to the draft for backfield help after releasing Jamaal Charles earlier this offseason, but Ware has a good chance to open the season as the lead back. Apr 15 - 12:46 PM

I think Ware is one of those guys that he is one bad game or one good game from someone else from being an after thought.

With Charles gone is Ware the official #1 RB on the roster right now?

Have the Chiefs brought in any RB's in for pre draft visits?

ESPN Chiefs reporter Adam Teicher believes Spencer Ware is still the "likely starter."
Writing about third-rounder Kareem Hunt, Teicher said Ware could end up getting "the majority of work as the featured back." It is a surprising opinion considering Hunt's draft cost and Ware's struggles down the stretch last season, but it is possible Hunt is a bigger threat to Charcandrick West's role than Ware's. Coach Andy Reid did say he is "a big Spencer Ware fan" before the draft.

The Kansas City Star expects Spencer Ware to return as the Chiefs' starting running back.

ESPN Chiefs reporter Adam Teicher previously projected rookie Kareem Hunt as the team's likely leader in 2017 rushing attempts and running back catches. Ware has averaged 4.63 yards per carry and 11.6 yards per reception over the past two seasons, however, and the Chiefs shouldn't be in any hurry to pull Ware off the field. This will be a camp battle to monitor closely.

I was a Ware owner but someone drafted Hunt before I could. I immediately traded him Ware for the 2.07 rookie pick.

I hold the 1.2, 1.5 and 1.6 in the league where I own Ware. I was thinking I might be stupid enough to take Hunt at 1.6 just for insurance but since I also agree with the Big 6 rookie rankings and then a drop off, I think you just inspired me to pass on Hunt and just try to work a trade after/during the rookie draft to whoever takes Hunt after my picks. Thanks for sparking that idea in my head.

5 touches before the injury in the 1st quarter too.....they were going to ride him.........It was The Tyreek and Ware show this year....damn shame.......

We don't know anything about the injury yet right? As far as knee injuries go it didn't look terrible. I think there's still a chance it ends up being a 4-6 week sprain.

I literally drafted Ware 2 hours ago in round 5 and looked down on my phone, saw the news, and snagged Hunt in the 7th. Thank God.

 This sucks.

This was the one backfield I was looking to "lock up" acquiring Ware and Hunt.

Now, even if Ware is only missing 2-3 weeks, this could well end up some type of bull#### committee once he does return.  The best hope is landing Hunt and "hoping" he flat out seizes the role and runs with it.   :P

Threw a big spanner in my drafting plans for sure.   :wall:

If you didn't see some sort of time share developing why would you be looking to lock up both RB?

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Spencer Ware (knee) has a 2-8 week timetable.

Ware avoided ACL damage, but is still looking at a multi-week absence. His status for the season opener is in doubt. Ware was already facing competition for carries before going down and isn't a lock to start when he returns. Coach Andy Reid confirmed Kareem Hunt will be Kansas City's featured back.

Coaches love this , now Reid can snooker his opponents as to who will be the RB. They will prep for Hunt, but it might end up being Ware, or West.

Proceed with caution.

Its a strategy I have written about several times here over a few years, and elsewhere online.

In most leagues I will try and "lock up a backfield", in the event of injury, or more specifically to help "guarantee me something" in the event of injury.

Lets say I have 6 running backs (I never leave a draft with less than 6, mostly I have 7.... and we can only start 2). If I have both KC backs, then I know even if I sustain 3-4 other injuries elsewhere, I still have that specific backfield locked up.

Nothing hurts worse, when you draft 6 or 7 RBs, and you sustain 5+  season changing injuries, and I have had it happen multiple times. The same can be said when you get 4 "late draft lottery tickets", and then they all bust or go down to injury, and I have had that happen too.

I have never thought this would be a time share, and I never thought it would be. Only that its a possibility now after injury. Even then, I thought it was going to be a minor injury, and he would be back in a few weeks. That opened up the possibility of Ware still being in the coaches heads as  "the man", but returning back to split duties, if Hunt looks good.

Now that the newest reports make it seem like its a long absence, by then I am sure Hunt will be the main back. (unless he is absolutely dreadful, then they will be bringing in West more often, or  giving the job back fulltime to Ware when he gets healthy)

This looks much more likely that unless Hunt just flat out sucks (or God forbid gets hurt) then it may well be Hunt's job from here on.

While I never like to see any player hurt, this makes drafting much easier, if you only wanted one share of the KC backfield. Now you just grab Hunt and take your lumps.

Agreed. I took both Ware and Hunt Friday before I knew of the injury to lock up the KC backfield. While I'm losing the value in my 5th round pick of Ware, IMO this is a better situation now that Hunt is going to get the lions share. I will keep Ware on my bench unless he misses over 8 weeks.
