Sports Administration Question (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
Hey guys,

I'm writing a graduate paper on the injury aspect of sports administration.

I was wondering if you or anyone can help me in anyway. I can use all the sources I can get, so I thought there would be no other place then to come to the source of some great football minds.

Is there a site, anyone of the FBG guys, or do you guys personnally know about injury clauses in NFL contracts. I don't need to know individual specifics of particular player, but what teams may disscuss with agents about injuries and what is put in the contracts if a player with pre-existing injuries is signing with an organization or re-working a deal?

Also, How much do players get paid when they are put on the IR?

How much does pre-existing injuries really hurt a player's stock in the NFL draft, or is it mostly a smoke screen?

I have information on some questions more than others, but I thought it would be foolish not to come here and ask fellow FBGs. I could probably get more information here then interviewing Dr. James Andrews.

Thanks

you may also want to look into insurance policies taken out by teams on their players insuring their salary on loss of a season's worth of play due to injury

Excelent suggestion. The teams take out the insurance policies? I know players do, but did not realize the teams do as well. It would make sense, with businesses getting insurance if they can not pay their employees, but in the NFL that would seem very expensive.

I have been attempting to get a hold of contract information for graduate research as well. This information is not readily available to the public, but is available to any player or agent. The NFLPA has put together a database of all current and historical contracts that is only searchable by players and agents. The purpose they state is to insure that agents and players can keep up with the best contract clauses and negotiations and thus get the best possible contract. I have gone as far as I can (talked with Mark Levin, Director of Salary Cap and Agent Administration) with the NFLPA to get information but have come up empty handed. You may try and find an agent who may have access to this database and work through him, but I don't know if they sign user agreements that forbide this or not. Also each contract is sent to the NFL, the player, the team, the NFLPA, and the players agent so you may be able to track them down this way. You can private message me if you wish to discuss this further.
