Half-time report:
I'm watching KC local coverage, FWIW.
Chiefs:
KC's O-line looks good enough. Waters is back playing, Jordan Black is at Guard for Will Shields, who is expected to be ready for week 1. Turley seems to be holding up well, as is everyone else. Green was getting time to throw on his five step drops. The biggest pressure on him was from a corner blitz that nobody picked up, but Green easily got away and made a completion downfield.
LJ was getting some holes opened up for him, but more than that, he was making yards after first contact. Stiff armed one guy, ran over and dragged a few others. He looks angry again. I've continued to rank him #1, so nothing has changed there. Cruz at FB looks to be doing a good job in run blocking for him, but I wish they'd stop tossing passes to him.
Gonzo wasn't targeted at all. The 1st string O came out after the first quarter basically. He was used in blocking some, but they did split him out wide once or twice, and he wasn't always in blocking. I still see him being decent, but I wouldn't rank him in the top tier of TE's.
Green will throw for some yards as long as the line can stay healthy. Not much to say about him really, he looks like he always looks...dependable, but unspectacular. He will not throw for 4,000yds, nor will he toss 25TD's. But he is a backup for your team in 12 teamers, maybe a weak #1 in larger leagues.
Kennison will get his 1,000yds, and a handful of TD's. Parker is a sleeper, but I don't know that they'll throw it enough to make him worth it. He looks way better than last year, when he dropped everything thrown his way. He also is willing to go over the middle, and even tried to bowl over some huge guy at the goal line that picked him up and body slammed him. Green was making fun of Parker on the side line for it. But in deep leagues, Parker could be a good late rounder. After these two guys, it's Dante Hall (the K returner) who won't be used enough to be worth anything in most leagues, unless you get points for return yards.
Dee Brown sucks. M.Bennett wasn't great either, but he at least got off one decent run. I expect Bennett to be LJ's backup when all is said and done.
The Chiefs D looks like it has improved now that they aren't running the most basic of plays. Jared Allen made a couple tackles in the backfield, Hali looks like he could be worth that 1st round pick, even picked up a sack near the end of the half I believe. Pollard got an interception on a pass that Bulger threw too high for Curtis coming over the middle. I wouldn't want to draft this D...but they don't look to be the pushover they were last year, so you might want to adjust your SOS's accordingly.
For those dynasty players - Croyle looks like a rookie, but better than most of 'em. He did some silly things, but he also made some nice throws. One was to S.Parker downfield about 30yds, and PI got called on StL. The other was a nice toss to the sideline, but the WR Webb didn't get both feet in...a vet receiver would have made that play no problem. Overall, it's hard to say anything definitive. But I think he could have a future. But it won't be any time soon.
Rams:
I honestly wasn't paying much attention to their specific players like I do with the Chiefs. Holt and Bruce didn't start. Curtis didn't do anything of note. S.Jax wasn't getting hit in the backfield. Once the Chiefs put in their second string in the 2nd Q, he got off a couple decent runs...but he was crap against the Chiefs 1st team D. Bulger is Bugler. Hard to judge him with his two starting WR's on the sidelines. He made some throws, the Chiefs got some pressure on him. He did have one bad throw that I mentioned earlier that got intercepted, but if you think he can stay healthy, draft him after all the top guys are gone. StL's D wasn't impressive at all.
I think that's about it. I'm going to watch the 2nd half, and might come back and answer questions before hitting the bars tonight. So if you want to know something that I didn't mention, just ask. I don't intend to go in depth on all the 2nd stringers though.
