Watching the the td pass in the Lions/Broncos Game I noticed this. Stafford was jacked up and ran to the endzone to celebrate with Calvin, and it looks like CJ kind of blows him off. I watched the replay a couple of times and that is what I saw. Calvin runs right by him celebrating and Stafford trails behind trying to get some acknowledgment. Any one else see this?
I noticed this also, and it actually sent me off into some inner-diatribe about players in the NFL. Not related to Calvin per se, since he's not typically a "me first" type guy and I suppose it's possible that he just didn't see Stafford there practically begging for a high five, but just in general. When I played in high school when a TD pass was thrown the
first thing the QB did was go high five the WR and the
first thing the WR did was seek out the QB. Yet in the NFL we see tons of WRs that would rather dance or pound their chest than say "hey nice throw" on the perfect pass they just got, and likewise there are a few quarterbacks who would rather point up to the crowd and wave than go congratulate their WR on a nice catch.
Personally, I can't even fathom it. When I played and we had a big TD play (or any big play) the first emotion that came to all of us was to celebrate with each other. It's the natural emotion for someone that actually cares about the play's effect on the game, and not the play's effect on themselves. You finish off this big play and you just get this urge to slap the crap out of the other guy's hand and yell "#### yea" or "let's go". I can't imagine ever finishing off a big play and then having the urge to dance or say "hey, look at me!". That's the clear sign of someone that doesn't actually care about how the the play affected the game, and instead simply knows that it made them look good as a player.
I truly think that the number of NFL players that actually care about winning for any reason other than analysts not being able to question their greatness due to the lack of a ring is very, very small.
