Star Trek - Into Darkness (1 Viewer)

When isn't it an action movie? It's almost always got a lotta bang. This just looks a little more James Bond than the rest but I think it still looks good.

I guess. It just looks like "mission impossible: London and sometimes space" to me. One of our agents has gone rouge and blown up the capital and our leadership!!

I can't wait for this. The trailer looks great. The scene of the ship (not Enterprise) crashing into the water and the scene of the ship (probably Enterprise) coming out of the water look phenomenal.

I still have no idea who the villain is; some parts of the trailer scream Kahn while other parts scream Mitchell.

Maybe JJ is fooling everyone and the villain winds up being Charlie X or Harry Mudd?
Oh, come on!! Mudd was a comic villian. You can NOT sell him in the same way as Mitchell, Khan or Charlie X. Sheesh.

I'll be watching it with 1500 other nerds at a conference in Columbus. Never was a Star Trek fan growing up, but I really liked the last movie. So I'm looking forward to this one.

Looks good, there is a lot more on-planet action than in the previous movies.

I wonder why Bones looks like he aged 20 years but no one else.

Just picked up my tickets today for Friday night. I can't wait.

I have been looking around online and there does not appear to be a scene after the credits. Has anyone heard if there will be one?

I would say it's good to very good, but not great. 3 out of 4 stars. This is definitely aimed for the fans as some of the scenes couldn't be fully appreciated without that knowledge.

Great news about being aimed at the fans. They did a little of that in the first movie and it worked nicely.

Was there a scene after the credits?

Some people were staying, so I assume there was, but I feel like I am still waiting for the Avengers credits to end..so I will youtube it at some point.

Agree with above. I thought it was very good but not great. I never cared much for the show, thought ST1 was great but this just felt like I was missing something.

Thankfully no after the credits scenes. I snuck a couple of beers instead of ovrrpaying for a soda and bolted as soon as they came up. I was actually worrying about it when I was going.

Buffering at the moment while I eat my midnight lunch. The first 30 minutes has been pretty god.Edit: It was great, better than the first it hit all the marks, well done. I get more and more jazzed for Episode 7 every day.

I thought it was great. Just as good as the first, if not better if just for Benedict Cumberbatch. He plays a hell of a villain. In comparison to the only other big summer movie out in Iron Man 3:

Start Trek >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Iron Man 3.

After the credit scenes really suck.

So from various reviews I have read online from general movie goers, it appears to be broken into two camps

Big Star Trek Fans - Ranging from very good to great

New/Casual Star Trek Fans - Ranging from good to very good

I can't wait to go tonight.

I'm a New Star Trek Fan. The only movies that I think will be better IMHO this summer are Man of Steel, Pacific Rim, and Elysium. It was THAT good.

Disappointing. Falls way way short of the first reboot and even farther short of the source material IMO. Decent movie still, but just nowhere near that class.

More specific review in spoiler code. For the record, I fall in the big Star Trek fan category.

This movie seems like huge conceptual mistake. One of the great things about the first reboot was the timeline alteration, freeing up the crew to cover new ground and develop independently from the first generation cast. So why immediately force in the classic Star Trek villain and essentially remake Wrath of Khan, with the Kirk/Spock roles reversed? Then if you are going to remake it, almost certainly setting yourself up to fall short of what's universally regarded as the best movie in the series, why do you cast Khan with a white English dude? I mean, Cumberbatch did okay, but come on. The only justification I can think of is that if they cast someone with any ethnicity at all they couldn't maintain the pretense of "John Harrison" being anyone but Khan, which just seems lame for 40 or 50 minutes of relative suspense. The actual role reversal I thought was fine, but it felt incredibly forced. Like the whole point of the screenplay was to get Kirk and Spock into those positions. Then the conclusion itself felt totally anti-climactic to me. The great Khan when all is said and done is taken down by Uhura with a stun gun. And of course Kirk's revival is foreshadowed with the subtlety of a flashing neon sign. There was plenty to like in the movie. Bruce Greenwood was fantastic as always, and the Kirk/Pike scenes were all great. Simon Pegg dominates his screen time, and, of course, the Enterprise itself looks amazing. I just came away wishing for something new and different... and an urge to watch Wrath of Khan again to see the real version of the character in action.

Huge Star Trek fan here. Seen every episode of every series and every movie.

I loved it. Was as good or better than the first movie. I would give it a solid 8.5 out of 10.

Cumberbatch could not have been better in that role.

I was not expecting

there to be so much of the story lined repeated from Wrath of Khan
but they made it work.

I can see why the early reviews from the critics and the IMDB voters have been so strong.

I need to rewatch the reboot again before I see this. I remember liking the reboot but the JJ Abrams lens flares bugged me.

Went to the premiere Tuesday night. Not a huge Trek fan, but thought it was very well done. Like the sense of humor in spots to mix it up. Paramount and Skydance have very very high hopes for this flick.

By the way, took a piss next to a frazzled Quentin Tarantino and then stood next to Tom Cruise at the post party. Pretty cool. The Trekkies were out in force all night long by the red carpet looking for pictures and autographs - obviously disappointed when all they saw was Mr. and Mrs. Smails sauntering down..

The only problem with this movie is that Cumberbatch is easily the best actor and his scenes are the most enjoyable but he doesn't get enough dialogue. He should have carried this film.

:goodposting: Great movie, I really enjoyed. Abrams did a great job. So many homages to the original and the cast does a really great job with the characters.

Also do yourself a favor guys and bookmark mediastingers. It tells you when movies have extra scenes.

I'm going to disagree with AOD's take. Not vehemently, just a little.

The alternate timeline only split after the approximate events in the reboot movie. That means that Khan & Co. were still out there, just as they were in the original. So while they are dipping into that well at the expense of going into a fresh one, it still makes conceptual sense.

Also, examining the Kirk/Spock role reversals in the resolution shows that whether the decision was an emotional or logical one - it's still the right choice. So I don't have a huge problem with that either.

Kirks revival was forced and a bit eye rolling, but it's not like they were going to kill off the new Kirk in the 2nd film.

As for Khan being a white dude...maybe he just assumed the name because he was really Bob Smith. And who's really going to be afraid of Bob Smith?
I liked it plenty. Will see again.
