Pretty much. Didn't a studio already do that with Spider-man?How would they do that though? "Uhhhhhhh just forget those first 3 movies that grossed a couple of billion?"

Disney is releasing a one shot comic that will address this. He got it on some sort of adventure he had by himself. Why is Threepio's arm red?
I'm hearing it has to do with communismDisney is releasing a one shot comic that will address this. He got it on some sort of adventure he had by himself. Why is Threepio's arm red?
I guess. This just seems less comic-booky to me. I would be into it though.Pretty much. Didn't a studio already do that with Spider-man?How would they do that though? "Uhhhhhhh just forget those first 3 movies that grossed a couple of billion?"
I think there are some intentional parallels. The Senate is similar to the League of Nations after WWI, a group of diverse planets/systems working together but ultimately looking out for their own interests. The Republic lacks it's own military, relying on members to provide defense, If the members consider the First Order contained in the outer reaches they are unlikely to risk their military to fight "someone else's" battles. So The First Order is the Third Reich circa 1936?
I can live with that setup, I guess.
I just read a quote from Abrams comparing the First Order to a what-if scenario where the Nazis that fled to Argentina after WWII organized and tried to do better next time.I think there are some intentional parallels. The difference is in this scenario, the Allies are covertly funding a resistance to defeat the Nazi's before they invade Poland.
1) Only speculation. Most seem to think she is either Skywalker or SoloSaw it, loved it. Questions/thoughts in random order:
- Any more info about Rey's parents/orgins? I hope her dad isn't Skywalker (too lazy/obvious). If Yoda mated with a tall orange women the offspring would look kind of human, right?
- Why is Rey able to wield the force with no training? Isn't that pretty much unprecedented?
- Why is Kylo Ren a badass in the first scene and neutered in the last scene? Was it the WookieBlast? Did it hit him in the nuts?
- What's the backstory on Jakku? Downed ships, the Millenium Falcon, etc?
- Where the heck did Snoke come from? Where was he hiding in Episodes 1-6?
- Is Snoke really big or was it just the hologram? Maybe he's really small like the Wizard of Oz.
- Who was the old guy at the beginning?
- Is Finn going to learn to be a Jedi?
- Is Lando Finn's dad? He was the only black guy in the universe so it makes sense.
Tom Hanks already did that story.Disney is releasing a one shot comic that will address this. He got it on some sort of adventure he had by himself. Why is Threepio's arm red?
It's JJ. Just use some kind of wormhole time jump thingy. It worked on Star Trek. How would they do that though? "Uhhhhhhh just forget those first 3 movies that grossed a couple of billion?"
I will watch for this next time I see it. I think that is an excellent indication of a possible time line.I'm curious how much time has passed since Kylo Ren destroyed Luke's new Jedi (and Luke disappeared). 10 years? More? Less?
Has anybody counted the number of days Rey scratched off in the AT-AT? I assume it is a similar length of time.
Yep. Except the "forget about" Spiderman movies were much better than the new ones.Pretty much. Didn't a studio already do that with Spider-man?How would they do that though? "Uhhhhhhh just forget those first 3 movies that grossed a couple of billion?"
think Kylo Ren was the definition of someone who is not as good he thinks he is. kind of a stud against lesser people, but when he goes up against someone with equal skills, he freaks out and blows it. Kylo Ren = Odell Beckham.
perfectA heads up, you are a troll, dork and nerd for not liking it.So I just got back and...
I didn't really like it.![]()
No need to imagine it. AMC did it with Breaking Bad.Just imagine a proper Vader origin storyI read an interesting article last night saying Disney should dump the prequel trilogies and remake those. Just rip them out of canon and re-do the whole story.
That sounds awesome and insane at the same time.
Yea but this is a much more linear story, or at least it is supposed to be. Can't really have multiple episode ones. I mean you could, but it kind of makes the whole thing dumber than it really is.It's JJ. Just use some kind of wormhole time jump thingy. It worked on Star Trek. How would they do that though? "Uhhhhhhh just forget those first 3 movies that grossed a couple of billion?"
I don't expect anybody here to have done that. Assumed somebody screen capped it and counted them by now.I will watch for this next time I see it. The movie is completely devoid of time lines.
Did any of the books give a better feel for how much time has occurred between events?
I am still looking for the names of some of the planets in the movie too (the planet Luke is on and the planet Leia is on specifically).
Sounds like you need new friendsA guy I saw it with didn't like it because the new leads were "a black guy and a chick," and felt they were "ramming that stuff down his throat" and "ruining his childhood."

In a metal bikini? We can only hope!I kind of missed it in the dream sequence or whatever it was...
Was Rey abandoned or given to someone? How did she come to be alone on Jakku? And is she some sort of slave or indentured servant?
These do not countThe galaxy scenes were added in Lucas's special additions.Just watched ROTJ the other day and I saw no such thing.Did you miss the part at the end of ROTJ that shows an entire galaxy relieved that he Empire has ended? There was a Senate up until the Emperor dissolved it. It's reasonable to assume it was reconstituted quickly and certainly early in the 30 year interim.i am sure the special forces ewok unit sent to Planet X was enough to maintain the republics dominance over the empire.Yes it is.This is 30 years after Endor.you really think a rag tag bunch of rebels could initiate regime change throughout an entire galaxy by blowing up a space station? The United States can't even do it on a backwater desert country in the Middle East. Of course the republic is not strong enough to totally take over the galaxy and if they were portrayed as such people would be complaining about that. It's simple, the republic isn't that strong. They were able to gain hold of some planets, but not others. On the ones they didn't they are secretly financing the resistance to fight against the first order on their planets while the republic formally tries to establish law and order on the ones they control. They aren't strong enough to wage a full scale war against the first order which is militaristicly still stronger. But there was a reason for the Rebellion to exist.
And I cared when it was Luke in the X-Wing attacking the Death Star.
And there was a time when the Death Star was a new idea. But that was two planet killing buildings ago.
And Tarkin was cool and threatening. Hux is ridiculous.
I disagree that the SAME criticisms can all be levelled on the old movies.
This is not complicated people.
Ok. You may not like it but its on screen. Its canon. That was actually one of the good additions. We saw what it meant to beat the Empire (and presumably that they have some form of long range communication that relayed all those messages to the galaxy).Good analogy. Now where is that alluded to in the film? That's all I'm asking. We don't need a lecture. Just hints like in the originals. It's been almost 30 years since the fall of the Berlin wall. Remember the celebrations when that happened? Russia was on a certain path at that point and it seems to be moving in a particular direction. That was reversed without much difficulty. Now extrapolate that to a galactic scale.Did you miss the part at the end of ROTJ that shows an entire galaxy relieved that he Empire has ended? There was a Senate up until the Emperor dissolved it. It's been said before but I think Lucas has it in the agreement that they can't touch them.I read an interesting article last night saying Disney should dump the prequel trilogies and remake those. Just rip them out of canon and re-do the whole story.

It wasn't, and I agree that's an issue for people just going in to a Star Wars movie and just wanting to enjoy the movie. But here's my take; if you are a casual fan, or not a fan but just want to see it, this is just a popcorn movie. Don't get bogged down in the details. If you are a more critical fan and want to boil down the story, understand that there are details to be read outside of the movie.Good analogy. Now where is that alluded to in the film? That person is not shown clearly in the flashback scene, most likely on purpose to be revealed in 8 or 9.Also - I might be misremembering the vision, but was Kylo Ren the one who was separating her from her parents on Jakku?
likely been said, but i think the stormtrooper's name was JB007. Also, RN's number was 2187, the same number as Leia's cell in ANH.That's hilarious.Daniel Craig, aka James Bond, was that stormtrooper. Actually true.My sons favorite line was when Rey was trying to get the stormtrooper to free her. After she figures out the Bene Gesserit weirding voice tactic, she gets free and then tells him to lay down his gun.
"And I'll lay down my gun.'
The flashbacks are the seeds that will grow in 8 and/or 9 and should explain who Rey belongs too and why she was left on the backwater planet.I kind of missed it in the dream sequence or whatever it was...

Luke ent back for it after 6, found it and gave it to rat lady to hold.I'm interested in the explanation of how Lukes original lightsaber was found.
The original theatrical versions are the only ones that count. Any SE versions that Lucas put on dvd and then theaters are bunk. I don't count the Christmas Special either if you need to know. These do not countThe galaxy scenes were added in Lucas's special additions.Just watched ROTJ the other day and I saw no such thing.Did you miss the part at the end of ROTJ that shows an entire galaxy relieved that he Empire has ended? Arndt's original script was said that "it fell from the sky".I'm interested in the explanation of how Lukes original lightsaber was found.
Actually I'd be plenty interested in a background story on Maz who has seen all this if she's been around a thousand years. She is also pretty obviously tuned into the Force (a hidden Jedi?)I'm interested in the explanation of how Lukes original lightsaber was found.

One thing I will say, the special effects were pretty ####### spectacularI wasn't a fan of the tentacle monsters. They could've made better monsters there.

15 minutes later it gets blown up
Calm down, superstar. If you were as in tune as you're implying you'd know that real fans watch the originals on the 2006 DVDs that are on the supplemental discs, albeit only in non-anamorphic widescreen. This is why real fans still watch the originals on their Laserdisc players and guys like Andy get confused with all the new added crap.
Lucky for us they ate everyone except Finn.I wasn't a fan of the tentacle monsters. They could've made better monsters there.
Why would you watch a lesser version on dvd than on your widescreen laserdiscs?Calm down, superstar. Not just Andy. Anyone who doesn't love it.Are we all supposed to be upset that Andy didn't like the movie? Sorry I started on this thread recently and I"m not up to speed.
