If somebody thinks the actors did a bad job or didn't like the story in general I can understand that. Some criticism though is just going out of your way to criticize which to me basically means you aren't into science fiction. Thats cool too, but at least say that.

These weird "gotcha" things just make little sense to me.

Reminds me of people criticizing the Star Trek reboot for being fake because Kirk got promoted too quickly.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Anakin and Luke were both great pilots before they had any formal training. Hell, I'm pretty sure there's a line in the phantom menace about anakins reflexes being so fast because he could see the moves he need to make a head of time. They were using the force without even realizing. I guess you could say the same thing about the training ball.

But the Jedi mind trick we've only seen done by Obi-wan(Jedi master) and Luke in ROTJ when it was established that he was now a badass.

This is true. But I don't think he had undergone anymore training. He just needed to face Vader.

Yoda says: "You must confront Vader. Then, only then, a Jedi will you be."

And we have examples of Masters Like Mace Windu failing with it.

The success of TFA is why we get sequels to movies like Independence Day. Sad.

The reason TFA is successful is the same reason sequels are made for almost any high grossing film, but TFA itself has nothing to do with other sequels. Godfather and the original trilogy helped create the practice. Plus that the desire to make money exceeds new ideas.Sequels don't really bother me but I friggin' hate that many series end with the last film broken into two movies. Harry Potter did it will but most do not.

Hunger Games did it also - just trying to milk one last film out of a closed-ended trilogy.

It will be interesting to see if there is any relation between Maz's story about the saber and the fact that Rey's vision had a piece from Cloud City in it.

Vader also makes a point to say mention that Luke made his own light saber in ROTJ.

Dumb question, why was Luke's light saber blue in the movie when it was always green?

Luke made a new one after Vader chopped his hand off in ESB. That's why people were asking how the hell bug eyes ever got it in the first place.

I saw it a month ago. Just forgot the color in each movie. Watching rotj now and it's green and figured that was the one from episode 7 but I guess not.

It'd be like those old Snickers commercials where the old guy misspelled Chiefs, "Good googly moogly."

I saw it a month ago. Just forgot the color in each movie. Watching rotj now and it's green and figured that was the one from episode 7 but I guess not.

ignoring color, Maz says that the light saber belonged to both Luke and Luke's father. Here is how the order goes:

Obi picks up the saber in 3 after defeating Anikan

Obi gives the saber to Luke in 4

The saber is then lost in 5 when Vader cuts off Luke's hand in Cloud City

Luke then constructs a new saber in the year between 5 and 6.

Somehow Maz acquires the lost saber between 6 and 7 and then Rey touches it kicking off the flashbacks.

Fans would fill in the blanks for them either way.

What's funny about the blue light saber is that Lucas made that one that Vader slaughters a buncha kids with it in ROTS. Why the #### would Obi-wan keep that thing and pass it on??

Disclaimer: I saw ROTJ in the theater with my aunt but was too young to really remember it. Was always a big fan of the movies and the merch but got burnt out by my last long term GF who was crazy about it and got me BobaFet everything.

This new one was pretty MEH to me.

The first flight of the MF was great... I enjoyed the humor. The new characters (minus Kylo) were okay enough. BB8 was pretty awesome.

What I disliked was the repetition, the accelerated skills, the length, the weak-### bad guy.

Seriously, like, did Rey see the first movie? The way she did the Jedi mind trick was so lame... she just decided to try that? Cmon.

Definitely wouldn't go see it in theaters again. I actually kind of want to go back and watch Ep I before I see it again to maybe increase me appreciation for the new one.

I don't have kids, which I can see how that would increase your enjoyment of the film. I'm kind of surprised by how much love it's getting though.

This kind of criticism seems really silly to me. You went to a science fiction movie that has people that use magical powers. You are upset because those people figured out how to use magical powers at a rate faster than you think is standard magical power learning time.

As the JMT thing goes, Star Wars is definitely one of those franchises where you have to suspend disbelief a bit with things like power and marksmanship, which will change starkly depending on who they need to win the current encounter.

Yeah, it was kind of silly that Rey decided to try that JMT thing she saw Obi Wan do in the 1977 film Star Wars directed by George Lucas. It was equally silly that the first time she picked up a lightsaber she beat the crap out of a trained force user that was strong enough to be able to manipulate the force in ways that even Yoda/Vader/Obi-Wan could not. But this is a franchise that makes stormtroopers crackshot marksmen when shooting faceless rebels and completely inept when shooting at a known character. If they backed the good guys into the corner enough, they'd have Jar Jar pick up a broom and beat Darth Vader in a lightsaber/broom duel to save the day.

I can understand the criticism, but just enjoy the ride and know that the good guy is going to be weak and useless when they need them to be weak and useless and is going to be the most powerful Jedi in the universe when they need them to be the most powerful Jedi in the universe. I think they rushed it this time, but it's all in the fun.
