Starbucks Pay It Forward (1 Viewer)

I'm sure it's not just my town but ever so often someone will pay for the car behind them at Starbucks and it starts a chain of this nonsense for the rest of the day.

I don't think people understand the gesture.  You don't blindly continue paying for the car behind you...you accept the gift and then pay it forward at some point...and it doesn't have to be at Starbucks.

I know it's all bah humbug to complain about this...but it's not just during the Holidays.  They do this all the time.

How is paying for the car behind you one right after another for hours at one location...any different than just paying you're own damned bill?

most people are lazy and figure they will forget about the gesture shortly after they post about it on Facebook, so might as well get the emotional credit and do it right then and there anyway.

How do you pay for the car after you if you don't know there order?
You speak into the speaker tell them your order go to the pay window....car behind you does the same...when you pay your tab, you ask to pay the car behind you who already has placed their order.

You need more efficient Starbucks. I'm gone before the next car orders

Did you get stuck with a bigger tab?  This isn't really complaint worthy.
Nah...I have never had Starbucks.  Don't like coffee.

It just a thing that seems to get posted about on my city's Facebook page.

It's always the same sort of post..."Someone paid for my order at Starbucks...so I paid for the car behind me...barista says it's been going on all afternoon. Our town is so GREAT!"

It's just dumb...not paying it forward...just the way it's implemented here is just ridiculous.

It just seems to be Starbucks where this gets messed up.

I've paid it forward at many different establishments but Starbucks is the only one that seems to turn this into some twisted human centipede like thing.

Do they ask you if you want to pay for the car behind you or does everyone take this upon themselves?
Last time it happened to me, they said "our pay it forward chain was just broken, would you like to start it again?"

"No"

I think it's nice. Nothing wrong with taking the free coffee. If anything, the guy who got a small coffee and is in front of the car with 4 machichocos and a frappucino should just say thanks and leave.

If the window guy ever mentioned yo me that this had been going on for hours before i paid, though, i would definitely put an end to it. If I want to pay for someone else, let it be my idea not yours

What bothers me is that you do at Starbucks and people will post how if "warmed their heart".  But you do this at an adult book store and suddenly it's awkward.

I tried the converse of this and told the starbucks chick that the car behind me was going to pay my bill.  She was skeptical.

Okay so i order a large drip with with room - always under 3.00.  am I expected to pay for some soccer moms 8.00 latte + muffin and chocolate brownie?  I am taking my drink and heading out.  Oh ya, get off my lawn.

This happened to me on Thanksgiving.  I had the entire family in the car after the Turkey Trot 5K.  Our tab was $22 and change.  The car ahead of me picked it up so I paid the  $8 for the car behind me.  I benefited but it pissed me off.  I'd rather everybody just buy their coffee and give $10 to the food bank or some other charity if they want.  People buying Starbucks who are too lazy to get out of their car don't need help on their skinny peppermint latte.

Can we talk about an entire family placing a 22 dollar order in the drive thru?

appropriate only because it was at a Starbucks this morning.... i was trying to drive down a street to get to the grocery store. traffic was backed up out of a Starbucks drive-thru to the street. one woman took it upon herself to turn left across the lane of oncoming traffic, blocking it. backing up traffic in both directions for several cars.

as one car going the same direction as me tried to inch between the left turn offender, and the car in front of her in line, to continue on our chosen path. the traffic blocker cut her off. :hot:

apparently nothing was going to stop people from getting their ####ing Starbucks this morning. especially not ####ing common sense.

No cuts, no butts no cockonuts

I bet the employees ####### hate this.
Yeah it's pretty dumb, too.

I guess the trick to be the last guy in line before a lull. "Yeah, so, I'd totally pay for the next person, but nobody is behind me and I don't know what the next random would want... so... see ya!"

This happens here on one of our main roads where we have a drive thru coffee place (that's actually really good).  I mostly chalk it up to stupidity and people do seem to realize their mistake and feel really stupid.

The lady in your situation, where she doesn't try to move and goes as far as blocking somebody off from getting through, probably deserves to contract some STD.

No kidding.  Although I find the huge caravan with like 8 mormon kids and their friends/family placing a $100 order with special request from In 'N Out to be the absolute worst.

This is probably the laziest "pay it forward" ever.
I think the thing that sets me off is the constant, "LOOK AT ME!" posts on my town facebook.  "Someone paid for mine, so I did the same!  We're awesome!"

You're not generous...hell, you're not even intelligent...this whole thing is stupid and you've gone out of your way to crow about how damned lazy and dumb you truly are...

@tdossAren't you in Temecula? I've gotta know so that I can actually walk into my Starbucks without this nonsense going on.
Murrieta...the one I see most is off Hot Springs Road.  Just avoid it unless you want to purposely break the chain and the hearts of these idiots.

A lady friend of mine claims she pays it forward at many places..and one minute later posts and tells everybody about it on her FB page.  I responded saying "It does not count if you tell anyone"

Trenta Iced Coffee Black

Grande Skinny Peppermint Latte

2 Tall Peppermint Hot Chocolates

2 chocolate croissants

Sales Tax

Apparently this is $22 in KS
