Headed with my bro-in-laws to steamboat springs in a few weeks for some skiing.. i haven't been to colorado to ski in 15 years (i have done some skiing, so i remember how and stuff).

Anyway... I'll take any advice in terms of where to get lift tickets/ski rentals, where to eat, where to drink, what else to do when i'm not skiing

There are no friends on powder days
what?
On powder days it's a race to get lost and catch as many fresh tracks as possible. No wasting time waiting on buddies.

Went many years ago... was it morningside bowl on the back? Got some great powder runs a little OB on the left. Killer mountain. Why not makes an awesome long lazy carve to end your day on. Forgot most of the town stuff.... we had a condo at base of the mountain with a large mixed gender group so we partied at the condo a lot.

Icon pretty much has it - one of the drawbacks of skiing in a group is getting everyone together to decide where to go - the bigger the group the bigger the cluster$#%$%. If it's a powder day forget looking at a map and head to Christmas tree(one of my favorites) and just drop and listen to the laughter in the woods. Aspen glades on the right (as you look at mtn) are awesome as well. Rinse and repeat. Tell your friends where they can find you at the end of the day.

Stop at Grocery Store and stock up on powerbars and snacks that are in pouches. Eat a hearty breakfast and stock the treats in pockets - blow off lunch and just snack through the day. Stop and grab a water or carry with you(I like the mini arrowheads with squirt top) Ski until you are dead and maybe call it quits a bit earlier than lifts close and grab a good seat at the base for beers. Never stop for lunch on powder days.

I don't know Steamboat, but this is the powder day template. Though I rarely sniff making it to last chair. I've usually been in the bar drinking brown liquor for at least an hour by the time they shut down.

leaving tonight - any last minute tips?
We are getting snow tonight in Denver - if you are driving to Steamboat tonight just take it easy, take your time - it is a long trip and you end up out in some exposed areas along the way where the wind can give you some fits seeing the road.

Drink a lot of water and take an aspirin to deal with going up to high altitude.

There have been some significant advances in ski technology in the past 5 years. Nothing wrong with hiring a private instructor for the first day. She'll be able to show you the mountain and help with your technique.

Love Steamboat. Was always partial to Closet/Shadows for the tree/meadow skiing.

Should be a great time. Jealous.

Yeah, I'm pretty excited about the new skiis. I've used some of the parabolic design stuff at the local hill, but not gotten a chance with it on the mountains.

I've been studying the mountain map... instead to start off with some green/blues and build some confidence up.
