Steelers Broke and 4-6, Bengals Division Champs (1 Viewer)

Why on earth are we bumping this troll thread? We all knew at the time the Steelers made the right call. Wallace made the right call too financially although I doubt he is having much fun playing with Tannehill as his QB.
I'm sure nobody in this thread cares about wallace's finances, and I know I certainly don't, but as for the offseason chat topic, I'm not convinced he really came out ahead on this, although maybe the geography is an upgrade.

I had some opinions in here somewhere that I can't remember, but I think the gist was that he maybe didn't make much more on this deal than he could have, and even if he did it was a few million.

now, I'm not downplaying the significance of a few million -- that's a lot of money, but there WILL be another contract, and would you rather be at the bargaining table with brown's numbers or wallace's this year?

these are apparently his upcoming salaries

2013: $1 million, 2014: $15 million, 2015: $9.85 million, 2016-2017: $11.45 million, 2018: Free Agent

are the dolphins paying out on those final 2 years at his current production?

when his agent is working on his next deal he might find he just gave back that 3-4 extra million he picked up, plus a lot more.

What a troll. How is this allowed in the Shark Pool?

Any opinion on the Steelers that the homers don't agree with must be squashed!
They aren't broke dumb ass.

They are against the cap. And they are ALWAYS against the cap. The Steelers spend their allotted cap space every year and it as part of their long term planning.
Stay classy Pittsburg.

Threads like this are actually what makes it fun to be a Steelers fan.

The Steelers are so consistently good and regularly make such good decisions that a season where they're 4-6 and 1 game out of the playoffs after 10 weeks is cause for a thread to celebrate their downfall!

It's been a great run, but age and a few sub par drafts have caught up. Probably in for a couple mediocre years until we're back near the top, and 90% of the NFL franchises wish they had fans that could say that in the beginning of a bit of a reloading process.

Carry on.

Online alias for Ian Rappaport. Next thread title change: "Steelers to cut ties with Big Ben".

This thread is about how poorly managed the Steelers organization is, not Mike Wallace. Mike Wallace was a symptom of the lack of forecasting by management and their cap. Antonio Brown has a big day? Great! I don't care, this thread has nothing to do with him. Mike Wallace is sucking in Miami? Whatever. I do not own him in my only dynasty league.

  • Todd Haley sucks as a person.
  • Big Ben dislikes Todd Haley.
  • The Steelers suck, just as I predicted LAST YEAR.
  • The Bengals are really good, just as I predicted LAST YEAR.
  • The Steelers remain broke with long term cap issues.
  • The Steelers have a losing record at 4-6.
I'm a lifelong Bengals fan and I hate the Steelers with a passion that burns deep in my soul. If Ben the Rapist, Hines Ward, Polamalu, and James Harrison all died in a fiery car wreck, that would make me smile.

Yes, Ward is retired and Harrison is a Bengal now and I would still like to see them dead. If the Steelers were playing a serial killer all-star team, Id break out a Gacy jersey. If they were playing the Nazi Party, I would paint a swastika on my face. I hate their players, I hate their fans, I hate their city, I hate their f'ing pets.

That being said, they're probably the best run organization in the league and have been for decades. I'd kill for the Bengals front office to be half as good as Pittsburgh's.

You, sir, are an idiot.

Looks like you missed the entire point of the thread, which is a lack of forward thinking by the Steelers. "Have been for decades"...thanks for the irrelevant history lesson. Fortunately, the future is not the past. What was is not what will be.

This is a new CBA. Tomlin is not Cowher. Haley is not Arians. You just keep looking backwards and see how that goes.

I thought the point of this thread was how the steeler's were ripping off wallace by not giving him a blank check, and how he was worth so much more than their insulting lowball offer.

and how dumb they were to sign brown, which would be a great insult to wallace.

Ahhhh, sorry for my lack of fortune-telling prowess. You're clearly the man in this situation even though most folks with decent football knowledge knew they were gonna have a down year.

The reason the past is relevant here, however, is that based on said history it's more than likely that Schitzburgh won't be down for long.

And Jebus H Christ, you have me defending the ####ing STEELERS for ####'s sake. God I hate you for this.

Got it. I didnt call it soon enough. Next time I will call it two years in advance. My bad.

Hammer on Mike Wallace and his $11MM per year paycheck all you want. This thread is about the lack of foresight by Steelers management. 2014 is the reality check for all of you who did not "worry your pretty little head".
Seems to me that not offering Wallace $11MM is the definition of foresight.
Dolphins 1-0

Steelers 0-1
Oof I suppose we will never see this genius in this thread again. At least he stuck to his guns.

NFL Network's Jeff Darlington reports Mike Wallace was benched in Sunday's Week 17 loss to the Jets for quitting on the team.
Wallace literally quit. After Charles Clay scored a touchdown late in the second quarter, Wallace reportedly "came off the field and told Joe Philbin he no longer wanted to play in the game." Understandably, Wallace's teammates were "very displeased" with Wallace's actions, and he spent the second half sitting on the bench with no one around him
meanwhile, in pittsburgh, antonio brown set to make a whopping 6 mil next year.

league leader in catches and yards, I believe, with 12 td

was this the thread ranting about how stupid the steelers were to sign brown to that peanuts contract?
Nope, great job making stuff up out of thin air. There is no correlation between AB and Wallace at all, the Steelers just have one less elite wr. From the very beginning you trolled this line Larry. Should I bump all the compliments I had to say about AB?The Steelers did exactly what I said they would do last year, which was lose the conference to the Bengals. The Steelers sucked and Mike Wallace got paid the top amount in the 10-11 mm a year I estimated on the market. No matter how many times this thread is bumped, I called last year. How the Steelers do in 2014 or any future year won't change that.

Wallace does not have a qb with a deep ball like Big Ben. Not sure why he is pouting right now since he took the $ instead of the qb. That was basically his decision when the Steelers low balled him. Take the payday and it comes with non-monetary risks. If Wallace valued yards, TD's, and wins he should have taken the hometown discount.

Good calls all around this thread guy: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/12/28/teammates-angry-at-mike-wallace-for-pulling-himself-from-game/

What is most hilarious is that your main point of contention is the Steelers not adapting to the current CBA/cap structure but they look to have signed the second coming of Jerry Rice for pennies which has allowed them to put some money toward free agency and retaining other important pieces. You posted on every single page of this thread, trolling the whole time. Given Mike Wallaces two years you were 100%, no shadow of a doubt wrong. Man up.

:lmao:

All we heard about 2 years ago is how the Steelers "couldn't afford" Wallace. I and the rest of the Steelers fans explained to you how they could have paid him exactly what Miami did, but they didn't think he was worth that kind of money. Miami did, and they paid it. The Steelers gave the big contact to Brown instead.

Here we are, two years later. Wallace continues to be a good, not great, receiver. The Steelers were right to value him as they did. Brown is 10 times better. They were right to give him the long term deal.

The Steelers played this perfectly and the Dolphins are probably looking to get out of this contract. Meanwhile, the Steelers have the best receiver in football at a team-friendly cost for the foreseeable future. As a Steelers fan this couldn't have gone better.

Whether or not you admit you were wrong is immaterial. The proof is on the field. The Steelers got an All-Pro for a song. The Dolphins got a one-dimensional threat that doesn't fit their offensive scheme for premium $.

There's a reason the Steelers are hosting a playoff game while the Fins will watch on TV. And you, sir, have been left the fool. Enjoy.

I will eat crow and admit I was wrong with my posts in this thread. I thought the Steelers were dumb to give Brown the Wallace money, but it turned out they made the right move. I did like Brown at the time though and bowed out of this thread when this TT guy went crazy, but it was a good call Steeler fans. Congrats on keeping a great WR.

Reading the other recent posts I just saw this one.

Your candor is appreciated and not taken lightly. It would be ridiculous to not agree as well. In Pittsburgh we often take a less skilled but more reliable person/player all the time. And tonight like many nights that paid off.

It paid off w/ Wallace, Holmes, Burress and countless others. It's a team game and like or not the only one who can get away w/ it is Ben.

Speaking Friday, owner Stephen Ross admitted Mike Wallace's Dolphins future is in doubt.
"I don't think anyone really knows," was Ross' exact response. Signed to a five-year, $60 million deal in March 2013, Wallace has averaged just 896 yards as a Dolphin, and reportedly quit on the team multiple times in 2014. He's due $9.85 million for 2015,
