Steelers OT Trai Essex arrested in Miami (1 Viewer)

Just heard on a Pittsburgh TV station that Steelers OT Trai Essex was arrested early this morning at a Miami nightclub. Apparently an altercation occurred around 3:00 AM Saturday morning and Essex was arrested for disorderly conduct.

Essex filled at LT for a few games this year when starter Marvel Smith was injured.

The Steelers have not yet issued a formal statement.

Seriously, what are we talking about here? It doesn't sound like he hurt anybody or potentially could have hurt anybody? If you are on the street at these hours outside a night club, big guys (whether in the NFL or not) are targets.

This is kind of surprising because I thought one of the reasons the Steelers "reached" for him in last year's draft was because although he was sometimes out of shape and didn't have the best motor, he was very smart, very coachable, and a very likable kid. Doesn't seem like the type to be involved in such shenanigans.

What shenanigans are we talking about? I would not be suprised if Essex was outside a nightclub waiting for a friend, a policeman asked him to move along and he said 'no, I am waiting for a friend.'

 I read this : Apparently an altercation occurred around 3:00 AM Saturday morning and Essex was arrested for disorderly conduct and assumed shenanigans.

I usually give the players a free pass until the facts come out, the media loves to sensesationalize (sp??) a lot of things.

I hear you. I'm not condemning the guy, merely expressing some surprise that his name was popping up.

Florida seems not to be the place to spend your offseason if you're a player. At least he didn't go all Chris Henry apparently.

Fair enough. I was suprised when Jerry Rice's name came up when police raided a illegal prostitution house in San Francisco.
