Steelers sign OT Flozell Adams (1 Viewer)

Mendenhall's stats are not the same as what it says in the play by play. He had runs of 5, 0, 8, 1, and -5. It should be 9 yards instead of 2. All in all, he had a couple of really nice runs and looked far better than his stats would indicate. He had no chance on the play he lost 5 yards on. The defender was there as soon as he got the ball.
I think Mendenhall is going to be seeing alot of that. Especially early in the season.

Mendenhall and Dwyer combined for 10 yds rushing on 11 carries.
I highly doubt Flozell was still in the game when Dwyer was. I could be wrong, but I would be very surprised if he was.

If Mendenhall wouldn't have had the ball poked out from him on that fumble, his second carry would have went for at least 15-20 yards. He was off to the races, then the next thing you know the ball is laying back near the line of scrimmage and Flozell is diving down to secure it.

I was encouraged by Pouncey, who clearly looked like the best interior lineman on the field when he played at center. Even got some snaps under center with the starters. I think he'll be starting over Hartwig sooner rather than later.

Dwyer will be okay. He was getting carries late in the fourth in basically goal line sets against 10-11 man fronts when the Steelers were running the clock out, didn't even recognize some of the linemen (Jolly at tackle?) he was running behind. Thought he showed nice leg drive though.

I can only pray that Flo was taking a "bah, it's preseason" attitude regarding last night. If not, we are in big f'ing trouble.oh yeah, Essex and Hartwig don't belong on an NFL roster, they were so bad it was downright embarassing
Sometimes old vets do not go all out during preseason games, but speed rushers have been Flo's Achilles heal most of his career.Pouncey and Hills both looked good.
I thought Hills looked really good.

Flozell wasn't helping either of them regardless.
Give me a break. It was the first preseason game. Unless someone gets injured these games are basically meaningless.

Why did you omit Redman's stats?
Where is he on the depth charts? I assume it's Mendy, M.Moore, and Dwyer that will make the final roster, if I'm wrong on that please advise. Those stats seemed to jump out to me. What did you see in the OL?
Redman is #2 with Moore as 3rd down back. Mendy will also see a lot of 3rd downs. Pouncey and Hills looked good, but Adams and Essex were terrible.

The defender was there as soon as he got the ball. Redman had a couple of nice spin moves on his 31 yard run, but the Lions that attempted to "tackle" him on that play just put a shoulder into him and never tried to wrap him up. Not to take away from the run, but there were 3 brutal missed tackles on that play. His other 10 carries netted him 20 yards. against 2nd and 3rd stringers, so I would not automatically give him a roster spot, let alone the backup job to Mendenhall. I still think Moore will be the main guy if Mendenhall gets hurt, although that offense will turn pass happy. I was not impressed with Dwyer at all. He looked really slow to me.
I strongly disagree and believe that Redman has already made the team. If Mendenhall goes down then I think it will be both Redman and Moore filling in, but Redman will be the better FF play.

i gotta agree. I'm not trying to drink the Redman koolaid or anything, but his effort is solid. He finishes his runs and he's been doing well in training camp, for what that's worth

unless Dwyer drastically improves, I think the job is Redman's

Just to put this in some context:

2009

Flozell Adams -- 13 penalties, 8 sacks allowed, 7 hits allowed, 34 QB pressures allowed :lmao:

Willie Colon -- 9 penalties, 6 sacks allowed, 4 hits allowed, 5 QB pressures allowed

Max Starks -- 7 penalties, 8 sacks allowed, 8 hits allowed, 15 QB pressures allowed

All three gave up their fair share of penalties and sacks, but Adams was an absolute revolving door, giving up QB pressures by the busload.
Totally agree. Dallas getting rid of him was a long time coming.Flozell did take some heat last year. He was lazy and played dirty (at times) to try and makeup for being lazy. He has awesome experience and knowledge of the game combo where if he were going to be some veteran in top shape to wind down his career, then he'd be a sweet signing. I don't in anyway get that from what I read or hear of Flozell.

He's not going into the HOF but nonetheless he'd have been remembered fondly and there's just a gut feeling that he is going to ruin that before he retires.

I hope a new team brings a fresh new attitude.

I'm watching the Steelers-Lions game this morning on NFL Network and here is my early analysis: Flozell Adams is an absolute disaster. If he is truly going to be our startiing right tackle, it's going to be a long season...
Yes because the first two series of the first preseason game with a new team at a new position is solid way to project what will happen during a 16-game regular season.Flozell may need time or may be done, time will tell. Just don't make the mistake of reading too much into the preseason.

The Steelers will set an attendance record this year. They've added a new turnstile.

It was no secret that Flozell has been a good run blocker but weak in pass protection when the Steelers signed him. Apparently the Steelers were willing to gamble that his run blocking skills were worth a few sacks during the course of the year. We'll just have to see what happens during the course of training camp and the preseason. If he continues to struggle at pass protection and isn't effective at run blocking the Steelers can always cut him at little cost. The question is whether or not they have anyone better on the team to play RT. He may not be that good but if he is still better than anyone else you have then you have no choice but to stick by him and deal with it.

Hills crushed his guy on the TD run. Not sure who he was blocking, but that was impressive.

i just like that Hills finally didn't suck. He's never looked this good before, even against 3rd string talent.
