Any other Steely Dan heads going to check this out.

I'm going to get tickets for the show in Boston when they play Aja.

That's a short album, wondering if anyone else is going and if they can report back to what else they play on "Aja" night.

Every time I hear Steely Dan I feel like it's a too hot summer day and I have a screaming headache.

Not trying to hate on their music.. I literally get that feeling. It's the strangest thing.

wtf? "aja night" - ?? I didn't see anything stating they would play all or mostly one album for any given concert, although if I did, I would want tiks to the aja or royal scam show. course this means they better have michael mcdonald, larry carlton, and tom scott in tow......or some damn good impersonations.

I'm not doctor, but you might have a case of the Deacon Blues.

Who started this trend of playing complete albums live? Aerosmith is doing the special sets also.

I know Bruce played both the Darkness and Born to Run albums start to finish 5/7/08 at the Count Basie Theatre.

Did anyone do it before him?

Tons of artists did it before Springsteen did it in '08. For example, many bands who have done concept albums have played them in full live.

Where does the "Royal Scam" show take place ? :lmao:

The Dan are rolling out the classic album tour again.

Never got a chance to see them before, but got tix for the Beacon on 9/30. Playing all of Aja plus more hits - sweet.

Link to tour dates.

If they were playing the Hollywood Bowl I'd get tickets without thinking about it. Nokia Theater isn't quite the same venue so I may have to just listen to Alive In America a few more times instead.

Thinking of going 8/11 in Boise. Never seen them before. Is it a good show?
Others who have seen them can chime in, but everyone I've spoken to - diehards and casual fans alike - have said they put on a great show.

For many years, I chose not to see them since I thought their technical excellence wouldn't translate well to the stage. But after hearing multiple reviews, plus the opportunity to hear Aja in its entirety, was too good to pass up.

Thanks for all the great replies. The Boise Botanical Gardens is a great place for a show. You can bring your on food and drink. I just bought tix.

That venue sounds awesome.
It is. You bring your own, low back chairs or just plop down on a blanket. They get 3-4 solid acts every summer and the rest are filled with some pretty decent local acts. The concert area is on a plateau in the lower foothills and has an insane view of the Treasure Valley behind the stage. Perfect setting for a band like this.

I can't remember . . . why didn't they tour for almost 20 years (or record a studio album for 20 years)?

And I have a ton of awesome sounding live SD stuff if people were interested.

Becker and Fagen never really liked touring - I believe they stopped in the mid-'70s while they were still pumping out albums. As for the original breakup in the early '80s, the usual stuff - career burnout, drugs, personal issues, etc.

If you haven't already, all Dan fans should check out Becker's solo CD Eleven Tracks of Whack.. darker than typical Steely Dan, but still has that 'groove'.. good stuff

Guess last night not update, but you can look at the night before :stalker:

Thank you for this thread.

They will be in Portland tomorrow and I just got some tickets off Craigslist.

Looks like the chances of them playing Deacon Blues is not too good. Damn

Really? 3rd song last night and they played it in the prior shows.

I guess the set list for the Botanical Gardens is wrong. Deacon Blues is not listed at all.

I hope you're right though. However Deacon Blues is ranked way down at #25 at setlist.fm

Looks like someone finally updated Boise.

They played DB #13 the show before, and I checked that set list on my phone right before the show started and noted that they moved DB up to 4th after Asia.

Had a great time with Steely Dan in Portland last night. The set list was almost identical to Idaho's.

Everyone sounded incredible but Donald Fagan can't belt the lyrics like he used to. I guess I should give him a break, he is 65!

Saw the "Aja" show last week, and man were they incredible. As mentioned, Fagen doesn't obviously have the same pipes he did, but he was still great. Not surprising, their touring band is unbelievable, notably drummer Steve Carlock and guitarist Jon Herington (who did most of the solo work rather than Becker).

The title tune Aja was definitely the highlight (Carlock channeling Steve Gadd at the 6:50 mark).

I've got Row 1 seats for SD tomorrow.

Any impressions from prior shows on what to expect? Long time fan but this is my first time seeing them live.
