Sure seems to me like White is being groomed to handle the Vereen role if Vereen is injured or if Vereen moves on after this year. Vereen hasn't exactly been forged from steel in the injuries department.

So maybe I'm wrong with the Jonas Gray tea leaves... but I still find it very odd that Bolden didn't suit up in either the third or fourth preseason game. Perhaps his veteran status keeps him around, but I wouldn't be shocked if he was let go.

Yeah, I've been saying he's a virtual lock for 1200/10 unless he fumbles it away. Which is a real risk with Belichick, but still.

The article about him not making the roster and the fumble talk has really been overblown IMO. I love how you could get him late in drafts the last week or so. What other RB outside the 7th round has a similar scoring situation he's in with the Patriots? I'm buying at that price.

Did it last year against a team later in the season.
This gives you the ability of any game to get a big fat zero, or worse, negative points and not have the ability to work his way out of the bad start. Other running backs on longer leashes get that chance, and you have to factor that into whether or not you start him on a weekly basis.

Decent chance as any running back outside the top 5-10 at scoring a TD this weekend.
I say Ridley gets 16 carries for 85 yards and a TD.

He has a rather good track record vs. MIA, scoring 4 TDs in his last 4 meeting against them and seems to average 70-80 yards a game vs. them when not in the doghouse.

He didn't fumble in that last game vs. MIA and NE lost so he was likely just excluded from the game plan once NE found themselves trailing. Vegas also thinks this is going to be a rather close game, as the line opened up at NE -3.5 (but has moved to ~-5 more recently). He's probably a dicey start but obviously a 10+ day is possible. I don't see how you're starting him unless you're in a deep league or really waited on your RB2 in drafts however.
look at it this way they don't have Jonas gray Legarette Blount is gone James White looks like nothing more than a COP and Vereen is not a feature ball carrier. Now factor in they have one of the best run blocking Olines in the league. Ridley could be set up for a big year!

That's how I see it. They also have another big back in Bolden but he can't stay healthy. Unless Ridley has a fumbling stretch like last year (3 in 4 games) I think his job is safe.

Ranked as the 37th best running back going into this weekends game by NFL Network. Three spots ahead of McFadden.

I don't think it matters the number of fumbles he has, if he has another fumble in a critical situation I expect him to be benched for an entire game.

Given where you could draft him, he has great value. The cutting him article was pure bs. Not even real speculation; more of a "belicheat could surprise us" type thing.
I don't think I am starting him this week as my rb3 (going with fjax as of now) but I think he is starting for most ff teams soon.

I got him with the 12th pick in the 8th round of a 14 team .5 PPR league and I am ecstatic. The 4 RB's drafted just before him were Bishop Sankey, Chris Johnson, Carlos Hyde and Jeremy Hill. He will be my RB3 and I am fine with that.

Is is standard or PPR scoring? It's likely low regardless, he'll punch one in.
Just remember, however, that Ridley's #'s may be inflated (TD wise) for as long as Gronk is on a snap count. I mentioned how NE has lead the league in rushing TDs over the past two years but Gronk only made an appearance in about half of those games. If Ridley goes on some kind of TD tear I wouldn't be averse to moving him if I could get something decent in return.

Ridley just went for Denarius Moore in my start 1RB league.

He's either set for a big role so they didn't need to see much in preseason, or he's so deep in the doghouse that he won't find his way out more than a few times a game.

Vereen has carried the ball a total of 121 times in 3 seasons for the Pats while missing 22 regular season games due to injury...pretty sure he won't just turn into a workhorse this season.

The only time in his career that he wasn't on the injury report was the 2nd half of 2012.
From his usage last year it seems like they've realized he's their Sproles and aren't going to use him much rushing.

I want part of the NE running game, so I've got Ridley in a few leagues. Hoping for the best. The price was cheap so I won't be distraught if Belichick benches him.

There are a lot of reasonable explanations for ranking Ridley 37th.
You call it whatever reason you want, but we're talking about a guy that entered 2013 as a presumed lead back. Then with Vereen and Bolden ooth missing a great deal of time, Ridley still only ended up with 178 carries and 10 catches.
You may say "the ranking assumes he loses his job due to fumbles", but the point is that he can so easily lose his job to fumbles. I'm not sure where Ridley should rank because I really just don't care. I'm not drafting him unless he's next to free. Even in that case, I don't like using a roster spot on a guy that I'd never want to start anyway. I'd rather use the roster spot on a back-up in another situation.

I don't think there's a player with so much uncertainly as Ridley. Those who wouldn't roll the dice on a later round pick on this guy are nuts. If he gets 1st and 2nd down carries and goal line work, he's going to be a RB2 in non-ppr. This is going to be a great offense and I want shares of it. I would much rather roster Ridley then a RB on a team with a deadbeat offense going nowhere.

The other factor going for Ridley is they really don't have anyone pushing him for playing time as their primary ball carrier. White is young and unproven and Bolden is just a warm body for garbage time. Vereen is their version of Darren Sproles, he will line up along side Ridley as a pass catcher, be their 3rd down RB, and get a few carries.

Doesn't appear to me that Ridley has solved the fumble problems as he fumbled once already in preseason on limited carries. (you can debate on whether it was a fumble in another thread.) I drank the Ridley kool-aid last season, and he was un-startable for the stretch run of the season. Then you throw in the unpredictability of Belichik which is a whole other issue. I would throw him in the Gronkowski/Welker category----there is a definite trend, be it performance or injury----draft these guys at your own risk. All I know, is that I want no part of any of them. I have James White and Cody Latimer on both of my teams. BTW, I think Latimer is going to be pretty big this year....and I felt that way before the Welker suspension.

I mostly agree with you, though I would caution not to undersell Bolden. BJGE was just a guy as well, and the Pats rode him pretty hard. Bolden's now made the team two consecutive years with training camp injuries that put his roster spot in jeopardy from the perspective of the media and outsiders. Last year it was a knee issue that had him on the bubble as he barely practiced or played. This year it was undisclosed, but he didn't suit up the third or fourth preseason game and still made the roster. And it's not like he's some big investment for them... he was an UDFA two years ago.
Certainly the offense as a whole plays a role, but Bolden has averaged a rather robust 4.9 YPC for his career and caught 21 passes last year after the Vereen injury, while splitting time with Blount and Ridley. He's not a star by any means, but he's solid... and that's all NE needs from this running game. Ridley is a better runner, but if he fumbles again, Bolden could be a nice play.

My guess is tomorrow will be a full RBBC in Miami as Belichick likes rotating his backs in normal circumstances and will want to do so even more so in the humid conditions.

Right, a journeyman destroyed Ridley's value last year.
When a fumble and a journeyman can make a guy worthless, I just avoid the situation. Maybe I miss on great year from Ridley, but I'd rather just let someone else deal with the headache.

man i got ridley in the 10th round. ppr but still. the guy has a 1300 and 12 season and is only 25. blount is gone, vereen has never been a workhorse runner, and he should just be better than bolden and white. cant really start him right out of the gate but we should know pretty quick if he is worthwhile.
