Steve Smith (St Louis Rams) (1 Viewer)

Thoughts/projections for Steve Smith this season? Looks like he'll be a starter and could end up the Rams #1 WR this season.

IMO, if healthy, which is a big concern, I could see him being a monster in PPR leagues. Any information out there as to his health and performance thus far in camp? I know it's early, but I'll be very encouraged to hear that he is looking good and going at full speed.

Yeah, I'm definitely looking at him as a last round pick. Prefer Quick for the long run, but he's worth watching in camp to see if there's anything there.

Don't see it. He is best in the slot and it sounds like that Danny boy and salas are the top option in the slot, pushing Smith outside.

Outside, you've got competition from all angles with guys that are more of the prototypical size, etc that teams want in their outside WRS.

I think he COULD do it but, barring multiple injuries, I'm not sure I see enough consistency for him to be reliable consistently.

I have wondered about this myself...I really think there is a WR3 in this bunch in PPR, but identifying him has been a chore too say the least. I do have a a question for folks. From what I have heard, Amendola and Smith both play the slot...I don't think it is a reach to say that they are by two "readiest" WRs on the squad...if this is the base that they play the same position, is there a chance that one bounces to the outside, so they can get their two best (or at least readiest) on the field at the same time? I mean if they go 3 wide with Amendola, Smith and Quick, I kinda like that group (assuming everyone is 100% of course).

this was actually reported this morning with some talk about Amendola being the slot and Smith bouncing out to compete with a starting outside spot (just saw it a while ago). Sounds good for playing time. I still think Smith is much more effective in the slot but it appears Amendola and Salas won't allow that.

well smith did start outside for the giants and just moved inside to the slot when they went 3-4 wide so its conceivable he could start or play in 2WR sets. i may be wrong here, but i believe the Giants run more basic sets(to atleast try for a better run game) than most

He's one of those guys floating around dynasty waiver wires that could come in "Cruz-like" and bolster a team.
:goodposting: Potential is there, and that's why I have him stashed on a few teams. The only risk with Smith right now is using a roster spot on him. I'll hang onto him and see how the preseason goes.

Yeah that was my point (and thanks for the info)...I forgot about Salas, so you could make the argument that their three readiest WRs all play the same position. I agree about Smith on the outside (slot is probably better), but I also think that this will be the rare occasion (ala Pats and Welker) where a defense drops more coverage to the slot for Amendola and leave Smith in single coverage.

Yep. Kinda sucks too. But Amendola and Salas are really good in the slot. The Rams have 3 really good slot WR's and ZERO good outside WR's. Although Quick is looking really good so far.
