Reports coming in now that it was partially due to a hamstring.
Coach spin to avoid a riff. Everyone will take SJax hammy...OK that makes sense. He has an excuse every time he does stuff like this.
Nah. Why would he bench his best player to send a message and then make up some story afterward? That would be sending the message that he was wrong or isn't man enough to own his decision.
These games are loaded with sideline reporters and media...if it was a hammy injury and he wasn't coming back, booth would have known IMO.
Rams reporter Howard Balzer said that when SJ came to the sidelines Fisher was quoted saying "did you like that? Why don't you watch the rest of the game".
:o #### the Fish. This is was one of the easier conspiracies to uncover..a largely irrelevant one but one none the less.

I don't know if you guys watched the game but the announcers were saying the whole time Steven Jackson got benched from the spiking penalty the whole time. I mean if the injury was significant enough to bench the guy for the whole second half, wouldn't you take him into the locker room to assess the injury?
Yeah, he showed zero signs of injury in his tantrun and coming off the field either. Plus he was one of the only Rams that did not congratulate Richardson on his 50+ yard rush. Everyone ran up and got excited but SJ looked from afar. Shame too because SJ is a team guy and a leader but he's never had to deal with this kind of adversity.

I find that quote from Fisher hard to believe... do you have a link?

Also- Jackson was smiling and clapping when Richardson broke that run. I didn't see if he personally congratulated him or not, but he was clapping for him.

Leaving fantasy football out of it for a moment. Jackson was having a great day before the dumb move he made and he is there best player at this point in time. Sometimes you have to wonder what coaches are thinking. Sure Richardson looked fine but again , you dont cut off your nose to spite your face as they say. Hes not hurting Jackson. Jackson still getting paid. hes hurting the whole team and the fans. ANd forget the fact that Jackson toiled all these bad years and was a good solider and never complained. Just dont understand some of these coaches. Again I am leaving fantasy out of it.
Their best player is clearly their kicker

Why would they make up a story? Why would Bradford lie? Why would Sjax go along with it? Unless of course it is true.
You don't see how this situation is even the least bit sketchy? My best guess is so no unnecessary drama surrounds the team after a big win.
Or an even simpler answer is that he hurt his hamstring.

some Rams fans need to acknowledge that Fish is going to have to set the tone and make examples of some and ...he didn't inherit the Superbowl Champs. Changes do need to happen.
Fine, but why make an example of Jackson? By all accounts, he has been a great player, leader, citizen, etc. And that's the guy you bench to make an example? Especially considering Fisher should have challenged the play prior to Jackson's spiking the football.
Plenty of reasons to make an example of him. Who knows exactly why, but if you make an example of one of the leaders of the team you are sending a clear message to every guy on the roster that that kind of thing isn't tolerated. I really don't think this is that far fetched. This is Fisher's team and you're going to play by his rules or not play. So refreshing to see an actual head coach handle a team after the clowns we've had for the last 10+ years.

I don't like conspiracies, but it's odd that we never see him with a trainer, he gets no treatment, isn't stretching, doesn't take his pads off if in fact too hurt to play, and never has his groin (or is it hammy, they can't even pinpoint the injury) wrapped or heated or iced.

question is will he start and get the rock next week...i kinda want to see what they do. not a good matchup @ chi anyway. may be time to sit if you have another option

None of that is odd if they shut him down. He had no helmet which is indicative of being done for the game.

This guys been the heart and soul of the team for years when they sucked. He makes one mistake and he gets benched an entire gaem? Not fair IMO.

I think this is a one week event where Fisher was putting his stamp on the team. Jackson isn't a head case and Fisher is a good coach. One thing it certainly showed though was that Richardson looks like a nice keeper / dynasty / handcuff target.

It was a bone head play and he got benched for a little over half a game. It sends a message to the rest of the team, that anyone who hurts the teams chances of winning by losing their poise on the field will be punished. If I am Fisher, I don't really care what the guy has done for the last 8 years.

Didn't anybody else catch him pulling his jersey up and feeling around by his waistband with his hands on the sidelines right after the spike?

That's why I assumed he's was out...

People, this is a non issue excepting that Richardson looked good. Damn good.
:goodposting:The only thing to see here is a dynasty pickup or handcuff for Jackson. I'd be pleasantly surprised if Richardson played a key role this year, in the absence of a Jackson injury.

He was getting looked at by trainers. The TV crew never showed it. The entire game was a mess, from the replacement refs all the way up to the TV and announcer crew.

He didn't get benched the rest of the game because of that. Try reading the news.

Well, after just 2.5 ypc last week, SJax looked extremely solid. Seemingly getting 8-10 yards per rush. Richardson had a couple nice runs, but if you look a little deeper he only had 3 runs beyond 5 yards out of 15 and he fumbled. FWIW, Jackson had 4 runs of at least 9 yards out of just 9 carries. At this point, I think Richardson is just a flash in the pan. Maybe will have some value next year.

St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson (groin) said MRI results from Monday, Sept. 17, were "positive," meaning he was fine.

Great post, 1st I heard this...WOW

so are Jackson owners rolling him out there this week if healthy or are you going with other options? I am betting hes playing since I believe fisher benched him and the injury story is nonsense.

I'm definitely playing him, but I feel much less confident about him as an RB 2 then I did before Sunday.

If he's hurt then it's another nagging injury in a career that's been plagued by strains and sprains.

If he got benched by Fisher, that's not exactly a great scenario either, considering Richardson looks like a capable fill in.

not a good start on the road vs Chi anyway. Id say leave him on the bench where the moustahce wants him

Chicago is far from a good run defense.
Good point. They made Cedric Benson look fast.
they did. I also thought SJAX looked great before whatever happened. tough situation this week for sure. at least STL offense is looking better

Not sure about this week. In my case, he's my third/flex back, and I have a lot of good receiver matchups. I'll watch for reports, but I'm inclined to go with one of them for now.

Jackson's carried that team for years like a pro. If Fisher benched him for this, he (Fisher) should be fired. This from a guy who doesn't believe in coddling players, stars or not.

Waiting to see the practice report tomorrow.

This whole 'was he hurt-was he benched' intrigue should be more clear by then.

Richardson looked good, but he's a 196 lb rookie.

DRich has earned more playing time (even though he fumbled) but I have no doubt that SJax will remain Fisher's featured back when healthy.

I'm like most, just waiting to see if he practices this week. Not confident putting him up against an angry and embarrassed Bears squad, plus I'm thinking I have better options playing M. Bush and Sproles with Reggie Wayne as a solid flex. I don't like conspiracies about benchings and "phantom" injuries and who knows what else.

I thought Steven Jackson got in. Aren't you allowed to spike the football after scoring?

I also thought he looked great before leaving the game.

I expect he'll be back with a vengeance, but Richardson certainly earned more playing time after his performance too.

Funny how Richardson earned more playing time even though he fumbled and David Wilson is benched for 2 weeks because he fumbled.

Fisher flexing his muscle= stupid. What has Fisher done to upstage the franchise RB? Benched the entire game (if Jackson is healthy)for a penalty where it had zero impact on the game is silly. Fisher was kicking the FG there regardless.

Let's hope SJax is okay and Fisher moves on here. Otherwise, good luck running with a 200lb rookie RB out there.

Well they won the game, isn't that the point? I think Fisher knows what he's doing, sounds like you're a scorned SJax owner.

Why do all the Jackson owners in here keep going bananas that Richardson is a "200 lb rookie"?

Turns out there have been lots of good NFL running backs who either were rookies or weighed around 200lbs.

"Good luck with your rookie RB with black hair and a blue uniform!" That'll show em.

My comments have nothing to do with FF. I'm a fan of Jackson. Fisher knows so much he muddled around the AFC South for years and was finally run out of town.

There have also been good right handed and left handed players. What's your point? A rookie RB who had many dud runs, a couple of nice plays and a fumble. That describes a lot of backup RBs in the league.

I initially had similar thoughts - 14 pedestrian runs, and one good run. But, here is a list of RBs that had 50+ yard runs last year. It is not easy to rip off a 50-yard run in the NFL. How many would you describe as garden-variety back-ups?1 DeMarco Murray2 Jahvid Best3 Michael Turner4 Fred Jackson Donald Brown6 Reggie Bush Jonathan Dwyer8 DeAngelo Williams9 Beanie Wells10 Darren McFadden Ray Rice12 Rashard Mendenhall13 Toby Gerhart 15 Willis McGahee LeSean McCoy17 Maurice Jones-Drew Ben Tate19 Frank Gore20 Adrian Peterson LeGarrette BlountRichardson is a backup to Steven Jackson, and I would not pick him up expecting that he would steal the starting gig from Jackson. But, he has starting RB skills, and if given an opportunity, I expect that he could perform as a RB2 right now. In a dynasty league, I picked him up with a late-round rookie draft pick, and in deep leagues, I would be surprised if he is not already on someone's roster, if he is not, pick him up, and see how he develops. I would not pick him up in a re-draft (unless I had Jackson), nor would I pick him up in a basic 2 or 3-player keeper league.

Nice that Richardson looked good, but Sjax should still be the guy.

I love what Fisher did. He is a coach with a new team, and he has the cred to bench the superstar when the superstar does something wrong.

Reread some of the stuff in this thread. Fisher shouldn't lay the wood because SJax has been playing for a bad team for years? :lmao: That's Fisher's problem? Tough noogies, SJax. Did your checks cash OK? Good. This guy ain't the first good player to play for a bad team.

It will be interesting to see the distribution of touches this week. Given how weak St. Louis's receivers are, I wouldn't be surprised to see a shift in favor of the running game. Jackson should still have a big role, but I would expect Richardson to get some looks too.

Player in bold totally discredits the entire list.
