Stock Thread (10 Viewers)

Morning, everyone. Hoping this isn't a 'no-no', but I wanted to re-post this for the new week and see if anyone might have some dart throws. Thanks.

Piggy-backing Sand's comments about 'gambling money', I'm gonna sell some old stuff (BLMN, MGM, CZR) and have about $1,000 to play with. Will dip into HGRAF, but was wondering if there are any other AI or Quantum stocks that could be lottery picks if things go right for them. Thanks.

I feel so stupid when I come in here. I currently just have my money in mutual funds through 401k and Roth.

Would love to do more of what you all talk about. Where do you even start?
It's not necessarily bad to just have funds. However, you do need to keep fees in mind. A fund with a 2% fee is going to suck $2,000 out of every $100,000 every damn year.
There are plenty of funds/etfs out there with significantly lower fees, and if you don't know better, you are perfectly fine using something like FXAIX with a 0.015% expense ratio. You will PROBABLY beat 95%+ of other funds out there just due to the lower expenses.

Personally, I have put a lot of time and effort into my portfolio over the years. I am very diligent about reporting, making a plan, reviewing the plan and sticking to the plan.
I have made plenty of mistakes over the years, but I have also had a lot of big wins.
Just for perspective, my actively managed portfolio (by me), has beat the S&P 6 of the last 7 years, and on track again this year. That sounds great, but it comes with a caveat, and that is increased risk. Schwab has some pretty neat tools to determine portfolio performance and risk and well, I'm on the outer edge on risk. I can live with that. Others cannot.
This is just my brokerage account mind you. My 401K's and primary IRA are 75%+ Index funds. I still manage those a little bit, but just with blue chips.

Get a feel for your investment goals and risk thresholds. Start an account with what you are comfortable playing around with and go from there.
There are 5,000+ stocks to choose from, so no one can really own them all individually.
And there are now more ETF's than stocks to choose from, so the investing universe is vast and overwhelming. Don't try to research every single stock of fund. Pick a few, and dig into them deeply.

And g'luck
I've had my Roth and 401k for 25 years. Both doing really well. About once a year I review the funds and adjust accordingly.
But for the most part I have a "set it and forget" strategy.

Reading these conversations has caught my interest. Both my girls are in college so I have a little more time on my hands.

May have to do a little reading / research and dabble. At 52, this is certainly not a retirement nest egg.

Appreciate all the replies.

AREC - rare earth reclamation. Noted previously and it took off. Not profitable and definitely a hope and a prayer, but the subject matter is juicy.

Bought 30 calls @ .14 of PLUG 1/15/27 5 C

Should be easy money, stock is about to bust back through $1. Way oversold. Even though green stocks are out of favor, they will bounce back.
I like that they are cheap and very long dated. Not a fan, however, that if the stock quadruples in 18 months this will still be worthless. Hope you hit a home run. A ten-bagger on PLUG would make this $400 investment worth $15000.
Pretty good call so far. Nearly doubled in a week.
I jumped on this trade in July. Just hit a double which means you're probably sitting on a six-bagger at least. I don't get doubles that often with options but when I do, I almost always sell half to completely de-risk. I'm gonna let this one ride a bit, seeing as the options are dated for January 2027 plus I am getting greedy. At most, I may take 10% off the top to begin a small unwind. Great call on this trade.

Looking like KVUE is going to feel the wrath of RFK Jr today

Down 5% pre-market
Buying more. I’m a believer in science.
Does that matter if 1/3 of their domestic consumers do not?
We'll see. I'll hold for a while. Tylenol's not going anywhere.
Nice bump during the press conference. Maybe some sellers were expecting an outright ban on Tylenol or something?

I wouldn’t speculate. But I have a tranche that I’ll hold long and then more I bought today which I’d be happy to swing for +5% if it holds.

i keep buying more bros
I should get some BROS this week. Might trade out of CoreWeave for a small profit tomorrow.
Serious question - since inception (2021) this has returned about 5% CAGR, excluding the IPO bump. What's different now that it's going to do better than a pretty dismal 5%? P/E is 120, which is super rich at the present. We don't have these here, so wondering.

I hear you. It’s basically riding the back of Nvidia (who is invested in them and counts them as a customer). I have no idea where they end up a year or two from now. I’ve just been riding this as a short term trade.

P/E isn’t the best measure. Their forward P/E is 65, almost half which shows why that isn’t the best measure. Their revenue has about tripled since the end of 2021. Starbucks has increased revenue a total of 20% over the same period. BROS P/S is around 6, which isn’t bad for a business expected to grow a lot more and SBUX P/S is almost 3 for a lot less growth. I’m about even on my buy before (ELF has done way better), but I might buy more or wait and see if it gets cheaper.

He was talking about BROS which IPO’d
In 2021 but I agree. NVDA just made a deal to supply hosted AI so is it now competing with CRWV.

I’m assuming there’s some sarcasm there. I’m feeling a bit of the same with crazy numbers being thrown around. Oracle saying their revenue is going to 10x in 4 years and OpenAI is 2/3 of that and now OpenAI is getting a $100B investment from NVDA which is then going to go to Oracle which is going to pay $100B to NVDA? Does this mean CRWV is out in the cold?

Sure starting to look absurd now.

Maybe this is helping bolster KVUE after hours.

ETA: In at $17.50 yesterday, out at $18 this morning. Thanks, Science!

Sept 23 (Reuters) - United States Antimony Corporation (UAMY.A), opens new tab said on Tuesday it has secured a sole-source, five-year contract worth up to $245 million from the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency to supply antimony metal ingots for the defense stockpile.

Giddyup

It’s made me a lot of money over the years and I don’t plan to rotate out of it, but still interesting Amazon is only up 1.5% this year.
Ok like half a percent now lol
It’s honestly crazy. It feels very meme driven right now. Trusting estimates from 6 years away. Pay packages that dilute current shares by half and ignoring sales declines means huge run up.

Momentum means more right now than actual results. I’m not selling right now because it feels very reasonable considering how much AI/robotics can improve their business and they aren’t playing the funny money game. They’ll likely have a run at some point like Google went from search will lose to ChatGPT to hot topic. Even Microsoft has kind of fallen off as well.

Yeah. It's kinda similar to the CRWV deal. Snake eating its own tail vibes, but no way to tell how much this has to go.

It was passed briefly by my UAMY stake this morning, but has returned to my largest holding
:oldunsure:

Update: it's actually a tense three-way battle between AMZN, UAMY, and cash.

Something just happened. I think Powell saw his shadow.

Not Powell.....the shadow over Powell. That shadow is saying some pretty alarming things to the rest of the world.
I haven't seen much, but what I saw probably included the best messaging I've seen from him on Ukraine. Taking that as a positive. Defense companies get a boost if we're getting serious about this?

Agreed on Ukraine. And his administration isn't messing around trying to secure critical metal sources domestically or with friendlier nations than China.
