I thought The Irishman was a little bloated but yesterday I watched Da 5 Bloods and now I think The Irishman is more like a Guy Richie movie.

There's actually the germ of an interesting 90-minute movie buried in there someplace, but man does that one drag out.

I still enjoyed the movie but had nearly the exact same reaction - needed to chop at least 30 minutes from all that time looking for the gold.  Stunning performance by Delroy Lindo, btw.

What about Da 5 Bloods? Probably hitting it tonite.

No love for Showdown at Sparrow Creek?  Hulu.  Original story, 90 minutes, all drama.

Somebody from a rural militia group is involved in a shooting - and the other members try to protect themselves

Anybody watch The Order?

It's a witches & werewolf show set at a school.  Kind of like The Magicians but not as cool.

Worth a watch if bored.
Was laid up on the couch with a back injury this weekend, saw a note in Netflix that the 2nd season of this is coming out this Thursday so tried it out. Wife and I will watch almost anything supernatural-esque and found it enjoyable enough. A good description above of a lot like The Magicians but not as cool, some definite small similarities (one actor was a supporting character on Magicians (Todd), another character has a lot of similar traits to Elliot.) I would describe it as if the CW did a PG-13 version of the Magicians.

You watch enough supernatural-esque shows (especially filmed in Canada) and you see a lot of the same actors. This show is a definitely a showcase for that, people that were in True Blood, Firefly, Vampire Diaries, the Stargate shows, Magicians, tons of guest spots on Supernatural.

Great show. Need more like this.

I didint mind the dubbing, what makes the subtitles better?
Subtitles are always going to be better IMO.  Would you rather have the original professional actors reading the lines or whoever they happened to hire as a dubber who probably isn't nearly as involved in the script or the roles as the original actors?

yeah. and for me, it screws up not just the acting (because these voice-overs are really not setting or getting the mood right), but also the overall sound of the show, which has to be completely covered over to fit the dubbing. so you're losing two major aspects of the show to poor dubbing.

Going to force my way through it, but this is pretty bad.

So starved for stuff, and with my wife going to sleep a full hour or more before I do, I've been watching some indulgent Brazilian crap.

Reality Z is The Walking Dead set in Rio, mostly on the set of a cheesy Big Brother type reality show. It's about as good as it sounds. But if you're a TWD fan, it's better than what TWD turned into the last several years. Also appears to only be one season...maybe. there's boobs, drugs and more swearing.

I watched S1 of 3% (also Brazilian) when it first came out- dystopian future where 3% of the population pass a series of tests to go live in a seemingly utopian island away from poverty, lawlessness and disease. I remember not liking it...like a 4/10. But here I am starting to watch S2 because...why not.

Reality Z is a remake of the British limited series Dead Set. It is damn near shot for shot until episode 6. That is where Reality Z goes off on its own.

Started Schitt's Creek last night and I don't understand the hype.  I thought it was overacted and not even remotely funny.  I do enjoy Eugene Levy but I've forgotten how much I despise Chris Elliott.  Never enjoyed his schtick.  Like an earlier version of Tom Greene (sp?).

They relied on Elliott a lot more at the beginning of the show. He gets used in much more reserved ways beyond the first season.

It's definitely not traditional humor so may just not be for you.

Then there's me and my wife who upgraded our cable sub for a few months just so we could watch the final season on Pop TV instead of waiting for it in Netflix.

My wife loves it.  There are a couple of good laughs an episode (mostly from O’Hara) but overall it’s average.

The Hunt was wildly entertaining. Yes the movie the president didn't want you to see is not quite what I expected. I doubt he saw it before condemning because it actually makes fun of political stereotypes from both sides of the center. Lots of laughs, action and exploding head shots makes for pure fun during these troubling times.

I like Chris Elliot as well as Levy and O'Hara going back to SCTV but I only made it a couple of episodes.

Thank all you guys for the Kim's Convenience rec. It's so awesome.  One of the best new (to me) comedies I've seen in a long time.
Thank you for pointing this out. I've heard it mentioned but never looked into it. Funny show, mostly because of the dad. Only halfway through the first season but enjoying it.

I had zero expectations due to the reviews, but as a result I was pleasantly surprised by Space Force. It’s not as funny as the cast list would suggest, but it definitely has its moments. Jimmy Yang and Malkovich are great.

Da 5 Bloods.  I thought The Irishman was a good movie, just a little long.  IMO Da 5 Bloods is too long and not a good movie.
A Spike Lee joint dropping on Netflix at just the right time in multiple regards.  There are the ingredients of a classic in there, but it just doesn't deliver enough.  Worth a watch for those interested, but it's no Do The Right Thing, Malcolm X,  Inside Man, 25th Hour, or He Got Game.  Da 5 Bloods is most similar to BlacKkKlansman, but it's just not as good.  D5B has some gaps in character logic and the plot is a bit clunky.  Not sure how Rotten Tomato has it in the 90's.  Seems like the script could have been tightened up quite a bit - just tried to tackle too much and ended up missing the mark on most of them.  All that said Delroy Lindo's performance as Paul was outstanding and is deserving of an Oscar nomination.

Shrill On Hulu

Meh, seems like a show @Christo would enjoy
Really enjoyed Shrill's first two seasons. Aidy Bryant does a great job and, if you like her on SNL, you'll get to see more of her acting chops here. It's kind of an off-brand Portlandia for the "just graduated college, now what?" crowd navigating the world.  We just don't see these types of characters portrayed as well as they are here (especially her roommate and crew and her best friend at work).  Very well-written and the short episodes really pack a lot in.  The main boyfriend character and mother can be difficult to relate to, but they definitely represent people we know and interact with.

I got through the first 2 episodes and was kind of dissapointed.  The cast has some great people but so far it just seems flat.  Maybe I had higher expectations then you did and expected more laugh out loud fun.  Does it get better?

Gone back for some nostalgia and watching season one of 1st and Ten. Go Bulls.
What service is showing this?

My wife and I had some :lmao:  moments in either episode 2 or 3 which convinced us to watch the whole season; I can't remember which.  The middle of the season is definitely the best part.

I'll have to give continue on and see.  Carrell signing KOKOMO was probably the best part so far.

Amazon. It's weird watching OJ knowing what was coming in his future.
