Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (9 Viewers)

I saw promos for Moaning (UK sports streaming) and it looked pretty funny. Kinda like No Reservations w/o the food. I like British dry deadpan humor.

The Silence - A pedophile/murder movie, except this time...

...with the most unsatisfying ending ever.
Timecrimes - A quick, fast-moving time travel movie. I liked it.

1st- how do I search individual threads for a word?

2nd - Im really late on this but I just reluctantly watched the Judge Dredd reboot and I REALLY, really liked it. It isn't a masterpiece or even great, but definitely a pleasant surprise and Id watch it again.

50 Dead Men Walking

at the recommendation earlier in this thread.

I think I understood about 40% of the dialogue, but its still good.

I was pleasantly surprised by the new Judge Dredd movie as well and really liked it. I'm a Karl Urban fan and I thought he did an excellent job as Judge Dredd.

Leena Headly was superb in Judge Dredd.

Movie 43. Lots of stars.

Not a family, or maybe even a SO movie. Pretty crude, but pretty funny.
The reviews of this were awful, I think Roeper called in worse than Freddy Got Fingered, but I thought it was hilarious. A couple of the skits were misses, but overall funny as ####. Definitely crude.

The Man From Earth.

Good flick if you can get past the Greatest American Hero and the jump to conclusions mat guy.

Also, it's gone Nov. 1, so hurry.

It had a handful of genuine laughs in it, which is a few more than the typical comedy on Netflix.

Finally got to Orange is the New Black.

Good show but I am worried that Jenji Kohan will screw it up like she did with Weeds by letting it linger for four seasons longer than it should have.

OITNB has three good seasons in it, four tops. Go any longer and the smoke monster shows up.

Dexter will be available on Neftlix instant soon.

Seasons 1-4 will come out begining on Halloween.

Seasons 5-8 will come out January 1st.

I'm looking forward to this. I have been hoping that it would come to Netflix eventually.

Like many people I really loved this show and you probably don't go to the Dexter thread to avoid spoilers but the overwhelming consensus in there would be to stop after season 4. I think season 5 is quite good too but many disagree, I think it's because of how incredibly good season 4 is that season 5 suffers by comparison.

Sadly seasons 6, 7 & 8 are a huge disappointment with lots of lazy writing. I think if you lower your expectations in advance of those seasons then you may enjoy them more.

Don't bother with anything on the second batch.

Well, season 5 is ok but it dives off a cliff after that.

Is 8 the final season?
yes
Surprised they would put that one on Netflix so soon. May get me back for at least one month.

Also watched this and enjoyed it. Some really funny shorts in there. Hugh Jackman is worth it alone.

"Good Old Fashioned Orgy" was pretty good too. Light and funny.

I already seconded Movie 43 but GOFOrgy was better than expected as well.

The shorts are a bit hit or miss in Movie 43, but during the good skits its hilarity at its finest.

Call The Midwife

Can't say enough good things about this British series. If you want to set aside cynicism for a bit and watch some genuinely heartwarming dramas, this show is ideal.

Season 4 is with John Lithgow, right? That was the last season I saw. Tempted to jump back in via Netflix but maybe not worth my time.

Edit: If I do, it would probably be starting over from season 1 since my wife hasn't seen any of it. And I only saw the edited CBS version.

Yeah, during the 2008 writers' strike.

Just started watching Battlestar Galactica. Not a big sci-fi fan, but it's pretty solid. Tricia Helfer and Grace Park make my pants happy, which is a nice bonus.

I'm on Sons of Anarchy.

It is better than I expected, but is a lot like Jericho in story line and presentation.

This makes it even more confusing.
Ok shuke
How is a post-apocalyptic survival story anything like a biker-gang soap opera?
Have you seen both?

Let's see, fictional town that is "run" by a mom and pop with a 20 something son who is the hero. Said hero is expected to one day take over as leader and in the meantime is expected to save the day multiple times. Said hero has a sweetheart from high school who shows up to add a romantic element, but then her ex shows up to add drama. Hero has to eliminate the high school sweetheart's ex from the town.

Fictional town has dust ups and somewhat fake gun fights with other local factions.

Which show did I just describe? Answer: both.

You could pick up the characters in Charming and place them in Jericho and vice versa. The underlying stories are the same, only the locations have changed.

I enjoy both shows, but the similarities are glaring.

Interesting. Been a long time since I've seen Jericho...forgot a lot if the side stories.

I find your theory credible.

I watched the first episode a while ago and it didn't convince me to keep going. I didn't think it was bad, but I wasn't moved to start that next episode right away. Maybe I'll try again.

Are people still enjoying Downton Abbey?

I thought the first two or three episodes were snooze worthy but people seem to love it. At least they seemed to love it, now I don't hear so much about it. Is it worth revisiting?

Also is it mandatory in Hollywood that every period piece drama provide the perspective of a gay person in that time period? I'm all for the whole gay rights thing (marriage, adoption whatever the whole shebang) but that doesn't mean I want to see two dudes sucking face on every darn TV show.

Lots of decent things added lately, including some recent "blockbusters"

Flight

Olympus Has Fallen

Aziz Ansari: Buried Alive

Chuck

Empire State

Dexter- seasons 1-4
