Oldboy

I think I liked it. It's one of those movies. Held my interest, kind of an odd twist at the end, but a good one.

3/5
remake or original?
I guess the re-make? The one with Josh Brolin. Didn't know the original was on Netflix as well.
Original is miles better.
And is still awful.
It's almost as bad as being really into the fantasy NBA.
You're not talking to the actual Dan Gladden's Mustache. I'm just a short term usurper. But yeah, basically every Japanese or Korean film I've been told great things about has pretty much sucked. Oldboy and Audition are the two prime examples.
Thats just because of the difference in culture. Apparently its a great film by korean standards.

The reason they had Spike Lee direct thr american remake is to make the korean version look much better in comparison to the diarrhea that Spike Lee passes off as films.

Ive watched Extract several times on netflix. Its another great comedy by Mike Judge that goes criminally underrated.

The scene with Gene Simmons is the highlight of the film.

Both awesome. I don't think you're a very good judge of Asian cinema.

I don't think Asian cinema is very good.

So yeah, you're probably correct.

Never saw the entire original series, so I am re-watching The X Files from the beginning.

Very entertaining.
I strongly urge you to stop after Duchovny leaves the show, you'll thank me later. The level of suck after that point is phenomenal.

Funny. I'm so ignorant about the show, I didn't even know he left.
Sorry if I spoiled it for you. Duchovny was in a contract dispute with Fox, I guess, after season 7 I think, when the show was already in decline.

When Bob's Burger first came out, I watched the first few episodes and hated it for some reason, I can't remember.

But I tried watching it again last week and love it. Pleasant surprise to hear Kevin Kline.

My favorite part so far is when Gene wins the mascot race and is being interviewed by Kevin Kline. He asks Gene where the burgers are from and Gene hems and haws. And you hear Bob is the background screaming, "IT'S BOBS BURGER! YOU WORK THERE EVERYDAY!!" :lmao: :lmao:

I was on the floor tears in my eyes
Bob's Burgers has been the highlight of Fox's animation lineup for a couple years now IMO. It's kind of funny how the long term mainstays (Family Guy, Simpsons) are barely watchable, while American Dad and Bob's Burgers, after slow-ish starts, are great.
:goodposting:

I like American Dad but Bob's Burgers in particular is outstanding. Has probably passed Archer as my favorite animated show on TV.
Another Bob's fan here. It's gotten stronger since season 1 while I think Archer has declined a bit. H. Jon Benjamin has tremendous delivery and timing but the entire cast is great.

Yea the T1000 took over.

No biggie. At least he returned for the movies.

Catching up on some old films I never saw.

Watched Donnie Darko in full finally. Always caught pieces of it and thought it was not that good. Finally saw the whole thing and it is great.

Also watched Big trouble in Little China. Classic 80's cinema there but I think I lose some of the magic watching it now. I feel like if I saw that when I was 10, it would have been incredible. Now its just ok.
Almost rivals Fletch in terms of my ability to spew one-liner quotes. It's still incredible to me. And I'm 10x4.... :excited:

This is the troof. Love both Bob's Burgers and American Dad. Louise is $$

I watched this last night. Great movie. It's scary how little they valued life. I don't think there was a single wasted scene in the entire 2 hours.

Is anybody else using Unblockus or something similar to switch between regions? I basically have to because Canadian Netflix blows. But by switching to Sweden for example you can get season 1 of Orphan Black, or in the UK you can get season 5 of The League.

I'm using Unblockus in Japan to get the US Netflix. I haven't tried other regions.

Best thing about Unblockus was getting access to the CBC streams of the Winter Olympics and World Cup.

Watched Zodiac. It had good acting but I felt like it was more a documentary of sorts. I guess because it was based on the book. I had no knowledge of the Zodiac Killer before watching this film but it was interesting.

Some scenes were ridiculous though. The woman stopping her car on a highway because someone was beeping at her, and then doubles down by letting him "fix" her tire? Were women that dumb in the 70's? Did total strangers stop you to fix your wheels in the middle of the night?

That bothered me for some reason.

So how easy is this to use? I am moving to England in a month from the USA so obviously netflixs will be swapping regions. Is there a site to compare what each region offers?

I'm too lazy to look this up, but didn't the on-screen murders use the actual case files as source material?

I imagine so but I just have a hard time believing a woman with a baby in the car stops on a dark highway because someone is beeping at her. Then doubles down by letting him fix her tire that was having no issues. THEN goes all in by getting a ride from the guy that obviously just loosened your tire.

I guess people are that dumb in the world.

Definitely.

Generation War

Is a foreign film (German), so there are subtitles which doesn't really bother me if the film is good. This one exceeded any expectations that I had by a ton. It's a 3 part mini-series, each one the normal length of any movie (hour and a half or so). The acting, action, setting, filming, everything is top-notch.

4.5/5

Boss - Kelsey Grammar series (from Starz?) is up now. Is this worth watching?
i caught a few episodes when it was on Netflix before and liked it. it's not exactly breaking new ground but it is solid. The aide to Grammer - Kitty? - is smooooking hot.

ETA - I watched the first episode again. It's still fun - Grammer is such a hammy actor, much like Spacey is on "HoC" - but it should not be confused with high art. Lots of good Chicago actors in it too.

Loved Freaks and Geeks. The ending was so money....pulled,out some old tapes.

Netflix you might like chose "undeclared" for me next. Pretty lame 3 episodes in. Worth watching

I know this is Netflix instant, but I am really digging "Six Feet Under" on Amazon. Funny, touching.

Only thing I am not sure of is Brenda. She must be great in the sack, because if I was dating her, I would run away screaming and never look back

I loved Freaks and Geeks, so i tried to get into undeclared, but I bailed after a few eps. Just seemed too fluffy.

i really liked "Undeclared" when it originally aired but tried it again a few months back. it didn't hold up well for me.

Yeah, think I'm going to skip Undeclared. Might go to X-Files. I remember wanting to watch this show but it was on Friday nights during my party years.

I didn't even realize Attack on Titan was on Netflix... their anime section is usually lackluster.

Two anime gems on Netflix:

Attack on Titan (post-apocalyptic)

Fairy Tail (if you ever watched DBZ)

Haven't followed anime in a few years but it feels like a pretty down time for it lately. Is this the general feel or is it just me?

What's fairy tail about?

@Insein:

I only follow the super popular stuff, really. I take it you've watched all the Ghibli movies?

@jamil:

'Fairy Tail' is a guild in a world where the commonfolk hire the magicfolk to do work for them. Buncha, buncha characters/abilities/magicks. Buncha, buncha fighting, grunting, etc.

Nah. Not a fan of those artsy movies.Stopped after death note. Never got into the new wave of gory ones like blood+, trinity blood, etc. Watched bleach till they went to the nether. Watched Naruto (dunno why), One piece et al but they went no where.

My favorites of all time are Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo and FLCL.

Paranoia was ok. Nothing special even with a solid cast.

Underdogs was a HS football losers start winning cliche flick. Enjoyable but not great.

Studio Ghibli is pretty much top notch stuff across the board.

Never heard of Attack on Titan but it sounds very interesting to me. Gonna have to check it out.

Watched "Brake" yesterday. Pretty interseting movie considering the majority of it is filmed with a guy in a box in the trunk of a car. the twist at the end is kind of  , but nice little movie if you're looking for a timewaster.

Watched the first episode of the Up documentary series, "Seven Up".

The series follows a group across the economic spectrum in England, starting when they are 7 and then filming another episode every 7 years. I think the most recent one is "56 Up". I only watched the first episode thus far and I'm guessing it gets more interesting as you see the kids grow up.

My favorite part was that they brought all of the kids together to meet and after they go to the zoo they get to go to an "Adventure Park". This park is basically a condemned building. The kids are dragging around wooden beams, climbing poles, playing in the dirt and one kid looks like he's dragging around a tire iron. Awesome.
