Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (10 Viewers)

Watched the first episode of the Up documentary series, "Seven Up".

The series follows a group across the economic spectrum in England, starting when they are 7 and then filming another episode every 7 years. I think the most recent one is "56 Up". I only watched the first episode thus far and I'm guessing it gets more interesting as you see the kids grow up.

My favorite part was that they brought all of the kids together to meet and after they go to the zoo they get to go to an "Adventure Park". This park is basically a condemned building. The kids are dragging around wooden beams, climbing poles, playing in the dirt and one kid looks like he's dragging around a tire iron. Awesome.
That whole series is good.

I watched Ip Man the other day and really enjoyed it.

Not sure it holds up to serious film buffs, but it was a very enjoyable kung-fu movie, IMO.

Happy Valley, a BBC/Netflix series, just released last night.

Pilot was pretty good. Great work from the making actress (Sarah Lancashire) and an interesting premise.

Seems like it could be on par with Top of the Lake

Bojack Horseman just came out for netflix and is a original show of theirs. Its a adult animation show featuring Will Arnett and Aaron Paul as the leads. Arnett plays a horse and the shows features other animal characters throughout, but it works. The first 2-3 episodes are slower but where entertaining enough. The season is only twelve 25-26 minute episodes, but after the initial introduction phase the show just takes off and is great. The characters work, the music is fantastic and I love the intro song. The show evolves and is deep beyond the standard animation shows. Watch it!

Arnett is hilarious, so I've been looking forward to this show

Never watched House before.

Three episodes in.

Exactly what I thought it would be. Hugh Laurie is charismatic but it's the same episode over and over. 150+ episodes. Not gonna do it.

I normally avoid network shows. Mainly because it's extremely difficult to pump out 22+ a year. Will say that Chuck is kind of worth it. Funny and hot women. Plus the episodes vary much more then a medical show or a Law and Order type show.

Loved House but can't argue it's not formulaic. One of the episodes toward the end of the first season (I think it was called 3 patients) is one of my favorite tv episodes of any show ever.

Yeah, she's awesome. TV needs more ###-kicking older broads like her.

I liked that Ashley character a lot too.

High quality show all-around.

Agree on Chuck, though I think you still understate it (I think it's a Top 5 all-time show).

I'd still be down for a 20+ episode network show, but it'd be rare. As long as it's not a procedural, as you say.

Chuck and Friday Night Lights weren't that long ago. Parenthood is still going (for one more season). The networks can still get it done, even if it's few and far between (well, maybe it's just NBC).

At some point I do plan on giving The Good Wife a go.

Wow. That is a hot sports opinion.

Goodbye World

Not great, not horrible. Not a whole lot of action for a movie with this premise, but the acting was very solid. More about the relationships between the group of people rather than the end of the world.

2.5/5

I found it to be tedious.
It was at times. I would have turned it off if not for the acting. I thought for the most part they all did well with what they had to work with.

Was listening to Spotify and "Take On Me" came on, and I had to say "One Word - Jeffster".

Cow-workers still have not seen it <_<

Fringe was much better then Lost.

Fringe, Chuck, Parenthood and FNL's all came out when the cable-boom really hit and network dramas were seen as for your grandparents.

I'd like to check out The Good Wife but I'm not aware of it streaming anywhere. Boston Legal is another one I've been waiting to hit netflix. First season was hilarious then I realized buy dvd seasons was for suckers.

Yeah, what Josie said about Good Wife. I liked Boston Legal quite a bit. A bit heavy handed at times, but very funny and a great cast.

Just finished it as well, brilliant but very dark.

Thanks for talking about it because I never would have know about it without this.

i mentioned this in the other movie thread but i highly recommend "Review" on Amazon Prime. it's directly from comedy central and terrific.

also, watch the whit stillman pilot "the cosmopolitans" and it's classic whit. it feels like it should be on HBO somehow because it's very polished even if the acting isn't anything special. slight plot but his voice is so specific that it doesn't matter.

Review is awesome.

You're Next

Not a bad slasher/horror type movie. I feel that it's been done to death (the plot), but it still worked. Not bad for what it is. Glad I decided to watch it.

There is nothing funny about stealing a meal from Neal McBeal, the Navy Seal
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

OMG Keith Olbermann is absolute :moneybag: :moneybag: in that episode

I have a streaming only membership with Netflix.

If I upgrade that to a full Streaming+DVD membership - does that increase the streaming selection? Or does the streaming membership alone provide all of the available streaming selections?

Streaming alone gets you all the streaming. WYSIWYG

No, the streaming stays the same. I was on the DVD plan for a few months recently to catch up on some stuff I've missed over the years.

Doesn't take long does it? To catch up that is.

Haha not really. I got through Seasons 2 & 3 of Spartacus, and a few other cable shows I've missed. And then the movies which, as you mentioned, aren't a great many decent ones.

I'm three episodes in on The Assets, a series on Cold War espionage in the 80's...Aldrich Ames and the people trying to catch him.

Pretty great so far.

Not sure what the fuss over Silver Linings Playbook is all about. It's an ok movie, nothing great.
Actually, I so didn't believe Bradley Cooper was mentally ill, and that takes me right out of the movie. Couple that with a really cliche script, and you have the most overrated movie of last year.

I just finished Weeds season1. I liked it. Lots of similarities to Breaking Bad but not as good.
I got about 4 episodes into Season 1 and stopped. Just wasn't doing it for me
My ex-wife loved it and I thought it was mostly garbage. I suspect that some women harbor the fantasy of being drug dealers or some kind of outlaw but without the darkness that some men enjoyed in Breaking Bad.

All is Lost

I thought it was pretty good. Not sure why I've seen more negative than positive reviews. It held my interest throughout. Thought Redford did a great job.
