Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (23 Viewers)

I assume that instant watching speeds up the overall consumption of the titles so by pulling them the production company might increase purchases of dvds or on demand viewings.

I get it, but somebody tell me why I just found Quantum Leap season 1 on instant watch and go to put it in my queue, but the first 3 episodes are "DVD only" but won't let me add them to the DVD queue.

Another question: if a movie that is in my instant queue is removed from availability, am I given a notification? If it comes back to availability will it automatically return to my instant queue?

Well you'll be able to see when something is expiring soon. I know it shows it that red text inside your instant queue...you may receive notifications elsewhere, I'm not sure. I've never had a problem with that. If something is about to expire I just watch it soon. Also, you can save things to your queue for when they become available to watch instantly. Under the category "Saved Instant" which is directly below your regular instant queue...it will tell you when these titles will become available to watch instantly, or show "Availability - Unknown".

:excited: It lets me add those to my DVD queue without a problem.
Says not available. But why would select episodes from a season only be available by DVD when the rest of the season is instant?

It must just be unavailable from your distribution center. Though I find it hard to believe that a 1990s SciFi show is that high in demand.I'm pretty sure there are other places on the internet that you could watch those three episodes.

A couple decent movies added:

Restrepo was just added today. It was supposedly one of the best films of the year.

I've always been meaning to give Chronos a try.

So unavailable basically means that they have too many copies out? But they won't even allow an add to the queue, which essentially a waiting list? I still think it's kind of weird that they'd have the rest of the season available for streaming, but not the first 3 episodes (1st disc in set I assume).I just signed up for Netflix free month, so I am new to all that is Netflix, so forgive my ignorance. I have 30 titles/show seasons in my instant queue on Xbox right now and just got Shutter Island in the mail.

If you have a title in your instant queue and Netflix removes it from streaming, it shows up at the bottom of your queue. That way, when/if it becomes available for streaming again, you have it right there.

Thanks. I'm assuming you mean on the website, rather than the Xbox interface.

Unavailable most likely means its an out of print disc and someone kept a disc. Some things are unavailable for years, others are off and and on.

Batman: Under the Red Hood

This is animated. I'm not too big on Batman in general, but this didn't disappoint. It's dark and action packed. It's also pretty short, just over an hour.

Well ####. Kind of sucks that it's the first episode of season 1 missing. I remember the premise of the show, but not the specifics of his time travel and the limits etc. :tumbleweed:

An experiment gone wrong. He can travel into the body of any person within the time-frame of his life (from birth until the moment of time travel) but only if there is an issue that must be resolved to maintain the "space-time continuem" kind of thing. Though I recall one episode near the end when he was shuked because he jumped to a time period outside of that framework.

I just queued up Disc 1 of the Season 1 and it shows as available now for me. I've never tried it, but it might be worth a call to customer service. I know Netflix is one of the best companies in the country to work for, so I imagine they take pretty good care of their members. Worth a shot.

I heard/read somewhere (maybe even in this thread...) that Netflix is willing to pony up big coin for current episodes of television. Anyone know anything about this? Would love to get stuff over Netflix rather than have to hook up the laptop to tv for hulu or pay for hulu plus.

I added Quantum Leap season 1 to my instant queue with no problem. Maybe because you're a trial user you have limited availability. I suggest emailing customer service.

Really? The first 3 episodes are available instantly for you and aren't DVD only or unavailable? :banned: I might have to shoot off an email.

Right here.
Cool, thanks. And may I just add "pleasepleasepleaseplease make this happen."

I just saw today that Archer season 1 is now only available on instant streaming until December 15th.

Maybe they're planning to re-air it on FX starting then in a runup to Season Two premiere on January 27. Anyway, it's worth highlighting this again for anyone who has not yet watched. Is there a single poster who has watched this show and doesn't think it's great? There may be more FFA consensus on this show than The Wire.

Love it through the 1st four episodes. That secretary and fat chick annoy me though, but the Duchess makes up for it.

I've been trying to search for Christmas movies and shows for my kids but most of it is really crap. Can't find too many of the classics.

You'd think they'd have a seasonal/holiday category. Do they have one and I just can't find it?

I was able to add that disc to my queue when using the netflix website via my laptop. For some reason it wouldn't let me add it on xbox or my iphone.

For the record I don't care for Archer. It has all the elements of a show I should like, but I don't

Also, watched Thin Blue Line today, phenomenal documentary. There is one part I can't get straight though

I know he is. He cracks me up. Finished season tonight. Pretty funny. Finale could have been a little better.

Quick question.

If I have a movie in my DVD queue and it is listed as "long wait", they send me the next movie off my queue.

Is there a waiting list for said movie? Or do I have to hit the timing just right for them to ship the movie?

I hope I am explaining this right.

Is there a waiting list? Or is it simply a timing issue based on first come, first served?

Did the secretary win you over as the season went on? Once she started up with the choking fetish stuff I thought she was one of the funniest characters on the show.

You just have to get lucky. The wait periods are based on demand. They prioritize people that don't do a lot of volume first. If it says "short wait" it usually still gets sent that day. If it says "long wait", you probably have to at least wait for it to say "short wait".

Thanks. Should I have only one movie in my queue if I really want it? lol

I don't think it will help. I keep mine full at 500. By volume I was referring to people that only send back one or two discs a month. If you fall into this category I don't think you ever see anything past "short wait".Best of luck though! I would just leave it at the top of your queue and I bet you don't have to wait longer than a week or so for it to ship eventually.

The Harry Nilsson doc was pretty good. Not great but pretty good and a few decent stories in there too.
Definately entertaining. I think I enjoyed the music as much as anything as a lot of his songs I had never heard before. For sure seemed like an interesting guy, wish they delved a little deeper into some of the stories they were referencing about him, sounds like there were some really good ones.

Just fniished the second season of Damages. AWesome show - a little ticked that season 3 isn't avl. Same with Dexter only having two seasons available. BACK to Nip/Tuck...
