Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (37 Viewers)

Netflix IMO has been going steadily down...that said I really enjoy Miami Vice streaming and I believe that is why it was taken off some of the other places it was running on...glad to see the under 25 crowd can connect with that show, truly a ground breaker and shaped a lot of the modern shows so many post up about.

I still am getting my $10-$25 worth a month, been watching Blu Rays with the new TV, HD streaming looks amazing. I guess I need to expand out to Hulu and some of the other streams for more content.

Just finished the new Battlestar Galactica. I enjoyed it. There was an awful lot of stupid in the series, but overall thought it was pretty good. Some awesome shocker moments throughout.

Is the original series worth watching? Any other good Sci Fi shows? I see that Stargate is streaming, so I was thinking about trying that out.

I've heard good things about it, and then I saw a commercial that was showing various clips where apparently the characters saying "Frackin" is a thing? I was instantly turned off. Is that one of the stupid things you are talking about? Because yes, that was real dumb. The commercial ended with a chick calling someone a mother fracker. I was like, "Really?" Awful.

People vs Geroge Lucas was just :X
No joke. I'm not a Lucas fan at all these days but listening to those fanboys rant and cry for 90 minutes was almost enough to make me take his side. And what was up with the endless fan videos & songs throughout? Yeah, we get it....dorks love star wars.

I assume you've seen X-Files - but if not, that is on instant.

Drive was added today.

Also, someone tweeted that The Hunger Games would be streaming by the end of the year. Considering it will likely come to DVD sometime around August, that is pretty quick turnaround.

FIREFLY!!!!
Good no, great, ####### posting.
I've watched Firefly a few times. It's what got me on to my current science fiction kick. I haven't watched X Files, but I have an incredible urge to punch David Duchovny is the face, so that may not be the best show for me.
X Files is the greatest television show in the history of television shows. And - I mean - if you like scifi, suck it up. Its amazing. And DD is great.

I don't understand the point of this.

Expiring Dates for Streaming Titles No Longer Available through Netflix’s API

Netflix has recently made a change to their API specifically around the expiry dates for their streaming catalog. Until now, the API provided the exact expiry dates but Netflix has now made the decision to *not* provide the exact expiry dates unless a title is expiring in the next two weeks. For all other titles, Netflix will show a far-out, made-up date irrespective of whether it expires 3 weeks out or 6 months out. On FeedFliks, we are representing this far-out date with 1st Jan 2025 which explains why 95% of your Instant Queue titles seem to expire on that exact date.

We hear all of you writing in and expressing frustration at this loss of information that was previously available. We’ve checked with the API folks and they have communicated that this is a done decision for now. We’re as disappointed as you all but this is now beyond our availability to influence. We’ve tried.

To get in touch with Netflix’s Customer Service, please call 866-716-0414.

Netflix kind of sucks for me now. I've seen the decent stuff like Sons, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Battlestar, etc. There is soooo much crap on here. The only saving grace is it's decent for kids shows.

It's losing value for reasons we've already discussed. But I still feel like I'm getting my money's worth. I've seen a lot of great foreign films and documentaries that I'd never see otherwise.

I already cancelled a month ago because of the sagging availability of titles. Now, I feel a lot better for it.

I understand why people feel this way, but the absence of the more popular titles actually forces me to watch more obscure titles, as well as, and more importantly, classic movies I would probably not ever watch but should.

They really do need a better way to let me know when stuff is coming to streaming and when it is leaving. Email alerts or a seperate row for things in my wueue about to expire or sonething would help.

I went to add Drive to my queue and found it already there. I'm 99% sure I didn't do this. :unsure:Does Netflix sometimes add stuff automatically? I've also noticed my instant queue will not stay in the exact order I specify.FWIW, no one else has access to my account.

Stargate is good fun, not as serial as BSG (most episodes stand on their own.) I'd avoid the spinoff series like Atlantis though. X-files is excellent the first 4~5 seasons but falls off a cliff very quickly. Most disappointing last few seasons of a show ever.Farscape is pretty hardcore sci-fi but I love it. It's definitely a different kind of show but if you get into it, you will be hooked completely. They used to have Babylon 5 on streaming, not sure if it still is. Low-budget and early 90's so it's a bit clunky and aged but an awesome storyline. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine is similar to Babylon 5 plotwise but with a better budget. The first 2 seasons are pretty meh, but it gets a ton better around season 3~4. Supernatural is on streaming now and every person I've recommended it to has gotten hooked. Starts out kind of "monster of the week" like the X-files but later begins to have more and more longterm plotlines. All are examples of tv shows with overarcing plotlines over the entire life of the show where everything ties together. Unlike say X-files or BSG where they made you think that's what they were doing but really just made it up as they went along. Not really sci-fi, but if you liked Firefly you should try out Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Angel.

I've never noticed anything like this. Perhaps blackout drunk queue management?

Yes or no X-Files is worth watching? TIA.
It starts to fall apart in the 7th season (which is still decent) and it completely breaks down to the point of being pretty much unwatchable in season 8 & 9 when Duchovney left. But the first 6 seasons are excellent television.

That's the only reason I'm still subscribing.

It happens and I think it has to do with the type of movies you normally select. I also think Netflix would benefit from shorter runs for the movies and also figure out a way to ensure the movie is not played on regular TV that month...example would be they stream Shawshank for a month and tell TnT to stop running it 24/7 all weekend long.

I think I'm going to cancel my streaming membership. The movies they do have on there I've already seen on STARS and the everything else is blah. The one saving grace is the zombie move selection.

Shut up, Little Man! is :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

It's a documentary about these two guys who moved to San Fran fresh out of college. They end up in this ####hole apartment complex with paper thin walls. The two people in the next apartment are -get this- a raging homophobic straight guy, and a flaming queen gay guy. Both are hardcore alcoholics. They get drunk all night and scream at each other. The two college kids decided to record it and the tapes were so hilarious and weird that they became an underground phenom.

2 months, 2 Million - About 4 internet poker players that rent a house in Vegas, party a lot and attempt to win $2 Million in two months. 10 episodes, but each is only about 21 minutes in length. Worth a watch even if you don't play poker.

VH1 classic albums... just rewatched pink floyd (DSOM), rush (2112/moving pictures) & steely dan (aja)... they have more, like cream & black sabbath...

started three part miniseries carlos (about the terrorist, aka jackal)... on deck is two part bio called mesrine (sp?), about an infamous french gangster...

there are some historically important, silent-era films, by the likes of american pioneer D.W. griffith (birth of a nation and intolerance), eisenstein (battleship potemkin) and murnau (nosferatu, faust & last laugh)...

last emperor by bertolucci...

lars von trier's latest, melancholia...

cult sci fi movies like boy & his dog & deathrace 2000...

mad monster movie fun for kids around halloween... :) wrinkle in time also for kids, from famous children's book...

more classic sci fi fare in farenheit 451 & slaughterhouse five, as well as contemporary thirteenth floor, with some virtual reality parallels to the matrix, in a noir vein...

blaxploitation flicks like detroit 9000 & across 110th street...

classic mockumentary spinal tap (bickering about what shade black the album cover should be was classic, the improperly scaled stonehenge stage props, the amp that goes to 11, etc.)...

aronofsky's first movie - pi

north face & touching the void look like good mountain climbing genre movies...

arrested development was one of the funniest series i've ever watched... like seinfeld, i really watched for first time after the fact, with series collection... because the unfolding of the three seasons presupposes some prior history and character development (with hilariously deadpan omniscient narrator ron howard as a constant reminder), watching them in chronological order is highly recommended...

Thank you to whomever recommended the new " Sherlock " series.

Thank you but WTF is season 2!?! And why only 3 episodes? Huh? Huh? :rant:More questions then answers, imo.

If it weren't for the shoddy availability of St. Louis Cardinals or Blues games online, I'd be totally doing this myself. Only reason I have cable is because of sports.

Yea, luckily I live near two major cities so I get between 2 & 3 NFL games via over the air during the football season. The over the air HD signal destroys any cable/satellite provider as far as quality goes and it's not even close.

Just finished Baseball by Ken Burns.

The amount of time I put into watching this and the fact I got to the end may be one of the greatest accomplishments of my life.

Major networks broadcast over the air in HD. You can purchase an antennae to pick up that broadcast and, if you are in a strong location for reception, it will be a great picture.Check out the We've cut the cable thread for more info.
