Someone mentioned it in this thread a while back but bears repeating....the Muscle Shoals documentary is a must-see if you're any kind of old school music fan. Always knew the Skynyrd line "Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers", now I have some context to go with it.

Also really enjoyed the documentary "I Know That Voice". About cartoon voice actors narrated by John "Bender" DiMaggio.

It was awesome. There will be a lagging section in the middle but really well done all throughout.

The Battered Bastards of Baseball

Awesome documentary about Bing Russell and the Portland Mavericks. Highly recommended.

Watched this over the weekend. What a cool little piece of baseball history. Very entertaining and, as always, it's fun to see how these different people turned out down the road.

started it but didn't bother finishing it. it wasn't adding up to nearly enough for my tastes.

Well, one episode in and I'm already a fan.

I loved it for a few episodes and really liked it at first, but ended up losing interest about four episodes in.

It started to drift to soap opera with the relationship stuff and while I was intrigued by Holly Hunter's character, in the end she didn't really matter much to the plot. She was just a cuckoo sage who was added for a little spice. And Elisabeth Moss was inconsistent with her accent as well as her performance, it was distracting.

I will say that Peter Mullan was absolutely mesmerizing as Matt. He chewed the scenery up whenever he was on screen. He was easily the most fully drawn character and Mullan's portrayal was superb.

I haven't used this site in a while checked it out when I saw this post. and the #1 watched thing was "The 100" So I looked at the description and it sounded promising. Turns out it is a teen Sci-fi drama fest that I am currently hooked on.

For those like me who don't or didn't watch it live - Sons of Anarchy season 6 now streaming.

Stop after season 3 and just assume the show didn't become a steaming pile.

This is what I did. Actually think I stopped after season 2, but maybe it was season 3.

Very happy with the decision.

Finished the first season and I'm definitly all in on this show. Chibbs from SOA makes a cameo. Don't plan on understanding anything he says. Season two is airing now on tv. Hopefully I can find it on bbc since it hasn't been released yet on Netflix.

When I saw the previews for Killing them Softly, I thought, Pitt, Liotta, Gandolfini, what could go wrong?

They could inject scenes, quotes and commentary from Obama and Bush during 2008. Wtf? That just threw off the flow of the whole movie.

I never fully binge watched Spiral, but I'm glad I got through as much as I did in the past. According to Wikipedia:

Spiral debuted in North America via Netflix in September 2012 (from October 2013, all four seasons were available, but due to a licensing issue as of 1 September 2014 only Season 4 is available);[9] in November 2012, the small public-broadcasting network MHz Worldview began transmitting the series in the US.

I just finished season 4 and noticed I didn't see seasons 1-3 and then I found out why. Season 4 was really good. Such a good show. It's pretty formulaic, but still good. I wonder what will happen with season 5.

I guess I should banish myself from this thread. I buckled under and added the DVD option to my netflix account. The movie selection was too poor with the streaming. Looks like their devious plan to double their revenue from me worked.

"The Debt" is a pretty solid low-key spy movie starring Helen Mirren and Jessica Chastain (as a young Mirren). It's a Hollywood remake of a 2007 Israeli film about a 1967 mission by Israeli agents. The core of the plot is old school with Nazis, Commies and rain slicked East Berlin streets but it's intercut with a modern wrapper showing the agents 30 years later.

Spielberg's Munich is an obvious comparison because there just aren't that many Mossad vengeance movies. I thought The Debt maintained tension better because its claustrophobic focus worked better than Munich's jumping between assassinations. Thrillers are always aided by a good villain and Jesper Christensen's Nazi doctor managed to be both plausible and dastardly.

The movie stumbled a bit after the twist was revealed but I cared about the characters by that point.

I'm five episodes into the seven ep. season. Honestly, I'm shocked you didn't like this. I think it's amazing.
