I don't find the character of Wendy as poor pitiful me. I think she is a strong woman, and I think Linney plays her great. Her breakdown in the grocery store was a combination of losing her lover, stress over everything that has evolved over her husband's cartel involvement, and culture shock. That doesn't make her poor pitiful me, it makes her human.

I know I'm late to the party on Narcos but I just did season one on a couple cross country flights and it was pretty awesome. I'm not a huge fan of the main DEA agent but most of the other characters are excellent and the guy who plays Escobar is phenomenal. Again, know I'm late on this but I would recommend, i find the subject mater fascinating, looking forward to season Two.

Just a note that Defenders comes out in a couple of weeks (8/18).

I can't remember the last show I've anticipated this much.  I've probably built it up too much in my head and will be disappointed, but I'm hoping that it lives up to the potential.

I'm about 5 episodes into Last Chance U. It's hard to understand why these players are so irresponsible about their academics. Are they just too dumb to understand that their actions have consequences? I have no other explanation.

Very good show. Season 2 was solid as well. S3 comes out Sept. 1st.

Man I loved Daredevil and Jessica Jones.  But Luke Cage was just ok, and I really couldn't get into Iron Fist.

Perhaps their team up will do the trick as this kind of show should be right in my wheelhouse.

FYI, Friends from College (Netflix original) has a solid cast and the director of Forgetting Sarah Marshall.  I got my hopes up high for it.

That was a mistake.  Every character is completely unlikable and has zero redeeming qualities.  The show is just off putting.  Easy pass for you guys.
I agree it's not very good.  But for airplane viewing it's not terrible and there are a few good laughs along the way.

As an aside, on second viewing Skyler isn't so bad.  During the original run she was SUCH a speed bump in the path of the story you couldn't help but hate her.  She's literally trying to stop the Walter White show we want to see.  She wants Walter to go back to being the mild mannered spineless twerp that was satisfied with getting just a tug on his birthday.  We don't want to watch that show.  We don't want to watch the show around the dinner table where Walter asks Junior about his day.  THAT SAID....on second view it is interesting to watch this tug of war between spineless Walt and "the one who knocks", how he got to that point, and why both sides have such allure to him.

The wife role was a thankless role.  In fact, the writers slyly kind of run parallels in the story to how people felt about her character.  She laments about being the bad guy to Walter Jr, much like she has to be the "bad guy" with trying to get Walter out of the Heisenberg life in viewers eyes.  Overall I thought she did a bad job of conveying the "normal" viewpoint, but I've never been a fan of her as an actress anyway.  Everyone else was running circles around her (did you buy the guy playing Mike Ermantrout?  Saul Goodman? Gus Fring?  Definitely.  Heck, even the guys playing Badger and Skinny Pete were more believable as their character than she was as hers) that it's not hard to argue that she was miscast.
She wanted him not to be an immoral criminal.

I binged it one night for the basic reasons that you laid out above and because I kept thinking that it was going to get better.  I think that it is  clever overall and I like it stylistically, but I agree that the soul of the show is really weak.  Not really anyone to root for.

Funny, I never thought much about her either way. But thinking back I think she played the role well. She's bland by design, just like Walt's car, house, neighborhood, furniture and personality prior to becoming Heisenberg. She fits perfectly with his old boring life, though she's arguably hotter than would be realistic.

It seems weird to be annoyed by her because you're rooting for Walt to go full badass. If he got a divorce and bought a screw pad with a huge pool and just tapped poon all day, you've taken away the conflict and tension that makes the show interesting. He's straddling two drastically different lifestyles and screwing them up badly at different times along the way, which creates all the suspenseful/dramatic/funny moments on the show.

Friends from College is definitely filled with terrible people constantly lying and cheating but I found it amusing and entertaining.  I'd watch it again w/ my GF if she got into it, but wouldn't recommend it to her as she's already paranoid about me cheating on her and I'm sure a show like that would only exasperate it.  Especially if I prefaced it with how much I liked it. :eyeroll:

Started rewatching Shameless.  It's tough for me to recommend this show because all the casual sex and drug use is a bit to handle if behavior like that isn't normal to you.  And that's not why I'm a fan.  I appreciate how frank they are about it all, but IMO what makes the show so compelling is how the family tries to cope and survive with widely varying levels of intelligence and trust.
Subtle... there...

...but I saw what ya did.

Great show too, but I have not yet watched the newest season. Is it still running? I plan to binge after all of this season's episodes are released. I think I will need to watch that on Showtime though rather than Netflix...not sure really.

Season 8 is filming right now.  Seasons 1-7 are available on Netflix - season 7 came in a couple weeks ago.

This is probably the first time their actions ,when it comes to school, do have consequences. Ollie hates school and is only their to play football. DJ Law showed in Episode 3 (I think) he can do the work (he impressed Ms. Wagner with his paper), he just doesn't want to do it. They must have been passed through high school without doing the work, so they expect it to continue.

There was enough tension in the drug world, there wasn't really a need for another source.  I just couldn't escape the thought that if he put sky and Walt Jr. In the rear view his life would be immeasurably better.

Skyler was soooooo not hot.  If it turned out in the end she turned out to be a guy I wouldn't flinch.  A 2 on the Offdee scale.

Yeah I wouldn't classify her as a sex symbol or anything but a 2 is Precious territory. I give her at least a 6.

Agree.  I bailed after 3 episodes, I think.  Not a single likable character and too many absurd situations.  Easy pass if you haven't started watching yet.

She's a notch above real world average.  6 is just right.  2's are supposed to be so visually repulsive that they start to generate feelings of nausea when you imagine them naked.

Remember guys, it's a bell curve.  2's are as rare as 9's...and since they usually know they are 2's, they are rarely seen in public...whereas 9's become models, actresses or teachers.

Correct.

I enjoyed FSM.  Watch it whenever it pops up on the tube.

I thought Russell Brand was awesome and carried the movie and pretty much anything with Mila Kunis in it is worth a view for me.

I don't know....she seems kind of......manish.  Upon reflection however, 2 may have been a bit harsh.  But that jaw...good grief man, give her a haircut and she could get cast as the lead in the live action American Dad movie

Somebody at work recommended Gypsy, with Naomi Watts and Billy Crudup. Bailed after 30 minutes; it was a bigly snoozer. Chased down a few reviews and found no disagreement.

We watched an episode. Really stupid and a waste of two very good leading actors.

Struggling to find something to watch, dialed up Vikings since I lost touch after season 1. When does Man in the High Castle come back? Or Travelers?

Just started last night. 4 episodes in. Keeping me interested. Really want to know if any of these guys "made it", but holding back so won't spoil the show.

My wife sat and watched ep 5 & 6 with me and got hooked. Pretty good story.
I'll probably start season 2 this weekend.

I made it halfway through the third episode - I wanted to like it but just too boring and not much hope that it would pick up.

Has anyone made it far into Surviving Escobar Alias JJ (basically the story of one of his hitmen after Escobar dies)?  I watched 1.5 episodes (of 60) this morning and enjoyed it It's not as good as Narcos, but still relatively good (so far).
