I’m sure it’s been mentioned before but prime is super annoying now. Seems like everything they “suggest” or show me is for a show or movie that I need yet another even more obscure subscription. We already have Prime, Netflix, Hulu, Apple TV, Starz and HBO. 

Yep.  There are shows ill never see just because im not subscribing to another freaking service.  I only have netflix, hulu, and disney because it was "included" with my cable and cell service

Finished 1st season of Succession. Have to say, I don't get all the love.

I feel the acting is average at best. Even the storyline didn't draw me in.

I can’t be the only one watching Dopesick am I? The ending to the last episode was devastating, truly great TV. 

Watched the final episode of Dopesick yesterday (S1:E8).  It's the very best season of television in 2021.  Very well done - highest recommendation.

All credit goes to @jamny, but the JustWatch app is pretty slick - you tell it which apps/subscriptions you have, and it filters to just shows/movies on those services. You can set up a profile to keep your own watchlist and it makes suggestions based on shows you like. No more scrolling through the Prime suggestions only to find out I need a new subscription to watch something.

I only just downloaded the app but in playing around with it, got a suggestion for a show called "Inside Men" (insert dirty joke here) that is a 4 episode British show about a robbery at a cash counting depot. I'm just starting the 4th episode and have enjoyed it. I don't think I would have ever found this show without the app as it is from 2012, so not near the top of any of Amazon's lists.

Red Notice - I was wondering why a film with Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds was demoted to a Streaming platform.  Then I watched it.  Seems like a money grab for the stars.  I could not tell if the movie was trying to be clever and witty, or action-based, but it fell short in both respects.  It held my interest, but probably not something I will watch again.

Caught this over the weekend.  I enjoyed it, but it's definitely what you expect it to be  - Rock is the Rock, Reynolds is Deadpool without as much cursing/vulgarity, Gal is eye candy.  Too much CGI due to being shot during COVID, a lot of green screen instead of shooting on location, but overall a decent "sit back and catch a funny action flick" type movie.

I couldn't really get into anything new after months watching subtitled shows, so I'm watching this old show you may have heard about: The Wire.  4 Episodes into season 2 it is much better than I remember.  But that Ziggy character is almost enough to make me skip to season 3.  

Ziggy was great, though!

Loved season 1.. Gets tough to watch when you find out the why, but still great tv

Liked season 2.. Cult like season, still good.

but the first religious parts- sounds like that worked really well for you, even if too close to home? I mean, if it had that much affect on you- that's a show that's well done, IMO.

Not really. It creeped me out a lot but was such an exaggerated-toward-immediate-evil version of what I had known in my childhood that I didn't think it was that well-done.

The hymn they were singing at the end, "Nearer My God To Thee", sounds very much like the theme song for the old Wyatt Earp TV show I watched while growing up. I knew all the lyrics to both songs and when I started combining them and singing my wife punched me in the shoulder. I'll have to pick my audience better.

Just finished Midnight Mass which I'll never watch again. I'd rate it 5 or 6 out on a scale of  10 but it was waaaaaaay to close to my religious upbringing and creeped the hell out of me. I went to church and Sunday school every Sunday the first 17 years of my life, wanted to become a preacher, before I had to walk away. Over time I figured out how organized religion had and can manipulate people to ... justify or hate almost anything.

The scene where the townspeople recognize all the health and age changes they're going through, set to "Holly Holy" by Neil Diamond, woke me up 3 times in fear that night. High creep factor due to my upbringing, not due to the presented story.

Last episode was very poorly done. There were fast-moving dramatic things happening but each scene would just stop for a soliloquy or narration for what seemed like forever. The preacher who'd manipulated the hell out of everybody suddenly became ineffective. Just way too much crapola slowing down the story line.

I'll never watch that again. I want a Bev Keene pinata to destroy.

The "religious" premise of this show is what kept me hooked early on. I wanted to see how they would use the misinterpreted bible verses into their plot/scheme. The show seemed plausible and somewhat realistic (to me) until the "zombie-ish" theme starting occurring. Normally I steer clear of those types of shows, but, this one kept me watching. Agreed with the quick wrap-up in last episode. Things just went downhill way too fast in an otherwise watchable show.

Also if anyone knows of other interesting mini-series dramas that are low in F-bombs, low in violence, low in sex/nudity, please share. It's tough finding dramas that meet all 3 of these requirements.

Just finished American Rust (not on Netflix and couldn't find a thread on it). SW corner of PA, economically depressed, dying small city overrun by drugs, starring Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney's Lip. Not a bad show but nowhere near great; a lesser and bleaker Ozark. The last 2 episodes veered from the believable into the not-so-believable which was disappointing. Fairly interesting but not great TV, definitely set up all the plot lines for a second season. The (rarely seen) bartender who has the best lines in the show was previously on The Deuce. 

Just started I Am Not Okay With This. 3 episodes in and it's an awkward depiction of the most awkward of teenage times.

My friend conned me into watching Arcane, kept telling me how amazing it was. I figured the bar was so low for video game to animation attempts that something halfway watchable would be considered oscar-worthy in comparison.

It's actually pretty good, borderline great. Realistic  characterizations, strong story, top-shelf animation, and has some seriously emotional scenes. Definitely worth a watch if you are remotely interested in the material.

There’s a sequel Army of the Dead. We haven’t watched it yet.

Rectify is pretty tame, if you're not looking for something new.

That's a great show. I watched it after I watched all of Dark, for a change of pace, and it was perfect for that. The stars of the show were a tree and magpies.

The Raincoat Killer is pretty nuts.  If you like serial murder documentaries (i.e. Night Stalker), then you'll enjoy this.  Only 3 episodes.  This guy was a complete psychopath.

I found it waaaay better than Army of The Dead, which actually came out first.  Didn't hurt that this had Nathalie Emmanuel in it, tho. Difficult to not like watching her for 90 minutes.

Yes, in S3 Azari makes sort of a cameo appearance. But, the storyline is about his lesbian friend and her partner.

The me-too incident heavily influenced his last comedy special too. I haven't seen anything from AA since then.

I am stunned at the production quality of this.  Might be the best animation I've ever seen - it's that good.  This and Queen's Gambit are the two best shows in 2021.

Many will say Mad Men, but I think it is an overrated, miserable show.

I'd say Broadchurch #1, and use captions.

Mad Men is my favorite show ever, so I’d start there. 
 

Succession is one of the best shows in recent years. Yellowstone is fun, but dumb. Basically a soap opera. Couldn’t finish Dexter and haven’t seen the rest.

Mad Men is the best show on that list (it is an all timer) followed by Succession.  Broadchurch is a great show, but just not on the level of the first two IMO.

Cobra Kai is awesome, especially if you grew up watching and liking the movies.  It is a great 30 minuter to throw into the rotation.
